But, that’s not why you should make them. You should make them because they’re beautiful, delicious, and easy to make.

    1:40 they're called "old fashioned" rolled to differentiate them from quick cooking/instant oats. I think its also marketing, since it makes them sound older and more rustic as opposed to the modern processed instant oats.

      So the answer is yes, there is a new hip and trendy kind of oats

    • @gnuthad
      @gnuthad 4 роки тому +3

      The modern variety of rolled oats is still rolled as per "old fashioned" rolled oats but then they're cut into much smaller pieces which allows them to cook and release their starch in a couple of minutes.

    • @ash3rr
      @ash3rr 4 роки тому

      In my country they are called 'whole oats' ... I abandon marketing hype when it comes to food.

    • @profesorqwertius
      @profesorqwertius 4 роки тому +7

      Well, there is a technological difference between those two oat products: *rolled oats* are made of pre-steamed oat grains that are pressed, which result in just pressed and slightly precooked flakes as we know them.
      *Instant oats* are made of oat flour: firstly you grind the oats to flour, then steam it and create small flakes of it. Instant oats have higher glycemic index and thus you feel hungry quite soon. Old fashioned rolled oats fill your tummy for greater time span.

    • @Iamwrongbut
      @Iamwrongbut 4 роки тому +3

      Judy D. You can definitely reduce the added sugar (would recommend). And it’s hard to come by unprocessed flours and oats. There really isn’t a health benefit to rolling your own oats so “processed” can sometimes be misleading.

      ... you have leftover strawberries? Mine never sit around long enough to be left over! I wait for this time all year. My favorite fruits are soft fruits, perishable and short-lived. My eyes roll into the back of my head when I see perfectly ripe, fragrant, dripping-down-your-chin-sweet apricots, berries and peaches at the grocery. The only favorite fruits I can't get where I live, are MacIntoshes, Concord grapes, and cherimoyas. You could always make fruit leather from your abundance, or preserves... and in the winter, it will remind you of warmer days. Xmas presents! ;)

    As the bruno mars of my strawberry oatmeal breakfast bars -- I just wanted to share my extreme and probably ill-advised modifications to this recipe, which somehow still turned out beautifully. I am sadly gluten free, so I used about .75 cup measure for measure gf flour, .25 cup teff flour, and 1/2 teaspoon xanthan gum instead of the ww and regular flour. I also had no fresh strawberries, so I used homemade santa rosa plum jam instead of the strawberry mixture. They were AWESOME, despite being kind of a different recipe.

    Thank you so much for sharing this recipe. I made these breakfast bars in the morning on Memorial Day and they were good! While these breakfast bars were in the oven baking they made my entire home smell good.

    I made this. It was really tasty and a nice change from the typical strawberry short cake I usually make with fresh berries. Bet this would be really good with fresh wild black raspberries too.

    These were AWESOME!!! Made over the weekend precisely as is except didn't have whole wheat flour so used all white. Pan was 9X13" & seemed too large but worked out fine. Stored in oven with cookie sheet over top. Less "crisp" next day but every bit as good. Will try a half batch in square pan next time.

    Oatmeal was missing off the grocery shelves for a few weeks but like TP we actually got some recently. Going to send this to my wife and her sister. Just finished off a nice helping of your Tuna Noodle casserole without Campbell's soup! It's a keeper.

    I made similar bars but using peanut butter and old chocolate truffles from the freezer that were chopped up in a food processor. They were incredible!

    Hi, Chef. I have a food request I saw on TV today. It's called SAMOON. It's a type of Iraqi or Arab (originally Armenian) flat bread made with ingredients we usually have. Saw it on TV today. It's usually got APF with bran or WWF, or just APF; yeast; buttermilk or yogurt; water; sugar and salt: olive oil; sesame seeds. It's diamond-shaped like a canoe, and puffs in the oven, is stuffed with things like falafel/veggies/amba dressing They said kids would come home from school and eat it as a snack with honey. Sounds basic but delicious. I've never tasted it, or amba, but have made falafel countless times from scratch. Maybe some day you can take a crack at them, with some sort of stuffing. I'll probably make them, but would like to see what you use. Hope you and Michele are doing well, living the life. :)
