I watch "Buzz's Retirement Garage." He is down to earth and has a good sense of humor, especially when people in his comments suggest differing ways of doing retirement than the path he chose. He also gets out a whiteboard to summarize how his monthly retirement finances are going. It is so helpful. However, I love your channel! I am not yet retired, but plan to be in the next couple years. I appreciate your pleasant personality, openness and relatability. Thanks for the UA-cam suggestions!
Happy on Monday is great! I love how she breaks down her budget and so informative on investment. I watch UA-cam mostly, hardly watch TV. I retired Single at 60, feel very blessed. congrats on retiring early. It is the best life!
I love UA-cam! I watch it way more than regular TV - real people are so much more interesting. And I love your channel Melinda. I just recently retired and your willingness to be transparent along with your professionalism and kindness have been very appreciated.
@@CarolinePaterson-dk7jc Awe that’s very sweet of you to say! I feel like I can be calm and just help people. As a principal I felt I was on guard all the time😔
Great point about the channels aimed at retirees and pre-retirees not being full of fast graphics and crazy music. Older audiences have different expectations, and didn't grow up with video games.
Right?! I want to be able to "watch" because you can tell a lot about a person watching them. But I also mainly want to listen once I get to "know" them.
@@MelindaMiller Here are a few retired women I like following: Kerry Ann, Connie Riet, LittlePoet and Small Retired Life. BTW, I retired June 30 and I live in Missouri. 😀
Just stumbled upon your video, great idea about paying it forward, I’ll definitely check some of them out. My daughters an elementary teacher, I never realised the work they put into teaching that goes unnoticed, such an important job moulding young minds. Thanks Oz
I am in my early 60s and retired at 53. Lots of people gave me pushback because they had difficulty grasping the concept of not working if you don’t have to. I looked at my life as stages. I earned everything I have now through a lot of hard work, but I owe it to myself to “stop and smell the roses” in my final stage of life. In my case I left the country after I retired and live in Latin America. It allowed me to get away from all the negative things happening in America while appreciating my new environment. I have yet to meet anyone who regrets retirement.
Hey Melinda! I have been subscribed to you on my personal account for a while and saw you gave us a shout out on this episode. Thank you very much. I think the reason why folks like you and us are finding some success on UA-cam is because we are just being authentic and our generation identifies with that. Keep up the good work. Maybe we should figure out a way to collaborate!?
Vanntastic financial has great videos for how to pay down debt quickly, she doesn’t shame people like Dave Ramsey, very uplifting and helpful. Single Mom on a Farm is a divorced mom with 10 kids who lives very frugally out of necessity and has a neat story. Her life is nothing like mine and I like seeing how other people live. I watch Living on a Dime and Prepper Princess. I don’t agree with them on some things but I get a lot of good ideas. I take what I can use and ignore the rest. Growing Up In Polygamy is one of my favorites. Again nothing like my life and that’s what is interesting to me.
Hey! I'm retired - no one tells me what I "must" do. 😁 Kidding aside, I watch some of the same channels and I agree with the endorsements. I follow Joe Kuhn mostly for the candid lifestyle advice as the financial tips don't necessarily travel too well over the border to Canada (where we have different government benefits, etc.). A few that I would recommend include a guy named Azul who has great advice on whether to take an early retirement (spoiler alert: for most people, the answer is yes). I also enjoy the videos on early retirement by a fellow named Nick Maher over in the U.K. There are many others. One of the most consistent pieces of advice from all the channels is to live for yourself and not worry about what others may think of you. 👍
nice recap of video subscriptions! When did you first start seeking out retirement videos? Joe Kuhn is on my favorites list. He keeps is real and this is what keeps me coming back for more.
I have watched most of the ones that you watch on hen I was newly retired. I do one video per week so that UA-cam does not become a job. My channel may grow slowly, but I am financially free so I do not need UA-cam income in retirement. I will donate all UA-cam proceeds to charity in my community, if I am ever monetized.
@@FIRE_DrNinjaTurtle I like your suggestion of 1 video a week. I was doing THREE but I think 2 a week is going to be my sweet spot. Thanks watching and commenting! I’ll tell you if I ever get a professor gig too!
