Bulgaria and Romania are set to begin the issuance of short-term Schengen visas April 1 onwards, for foreign nationals entering the Schengen Area, reported SchengenVisaInfo.
Clarifying for Fragomen, officials of the EU said that both countries, Bulgaria and Romania, are expected to start issuing Schengen C visas that permit entry and stay in the area for up to 90 days within a 180-day period, from April 1, 2024, the report said
The European Union has paved the way for Bulgaria and Romania to move closer to joining the passport-free movement within the bloc
Member states reached an agreement last year, allowing the two Balkan nations to apply Schengen system rules for entering ports and airports from the end of March. This development comes as Austria, the last holdout against expanding the border-free area, partially lifted its veto.
