The change in the alphabetical sequence for vehicle plates does not strictly follow a year-by-year progression. Instead, a new letter is introduced only when the previous sequence has been fully exhausted. Given the exclusion of "I" (to avoid confusion with "1"), if we were to follow a sequential, yearly progression, "O" might indeed appear by 2024. However, because new letters are only introduced as needed, the sequence doesn't necessarily advance every single year. That’s why we're currently still on the "J" series since early last year

That's how it's supposed to be, but it actually doesn't always follow because for some reason people personally choose numbers. You could register a care today and get a higher number, including the last 2 codes, than what a latter registration would be.
