John, I worked at the Mable Bar in the 70's. Am thankful to have met you and Devine when I was a kid (18). Enjoyed working your 30th day with Edith and the Enfent Troubles
It all depends on how hungry you are and how much of a hit you need. You can't eat crack and you can't smoke a deer. (Actually, you can smoke a deer, but you get my point.)
Atomic Comics used to have this awesome picture of Steve Buscemi dressed as John Waters for Halloween. I always think of that when I see either of them.
He cruised me on Polk and Geary in 1987, I lived in the TL for 10 years. I was early Forties, wearing ratty cutoffs and a leather jacket with no shirt underneath and high tops. I mean, he really gave me his big deer-in-the-headlights stare, did a complete dead stop on the sidewalk. But I was just coming from a dirty bookstore and had to go do my laundry so was in a rotten mood, plus he really ain't my type at all and he kind of freaked me out with the intense pervy glare, so I kept on going. Later I realized that I loved his pink book that came out in 1983 and regretted not shooting the shit with him a little. Oh well!
Non ironic and alarming: The Checkered Flag on the west side of Indianapolis--if someone can pass this along for when Mr. Waters is in town in a couple weeks, maybe he can check it out.
I agree with Blake Gildaphish even though I like a lot of 'CERTAIN' Rap music. Because if you are in a bar playing Rap its usually full of show off little prick bully assholes who shout loud and speak too fast and try to act tough. Certain Rap music (Like Xmas) is for children-people who haven't grown up and are trying to prove their manhood; which -if you're an adult-you stop doing after 17 years old.
Just fun to hang out talk to strangers you will meet some interesting people sometimes with some great story's just be careful you can also meet some shitty people as well

I love most of the videos on BigThink - but this one - hmmmm. Didn't really make me think at all. Tell me something mind-expanding, something I can learn from.

Reminds me that of bit in the Simpsons where a couple of hipster types walk into Moe's bar.
"This isn't 'faux dive'. This is just a dive."
I wonder what the deer meat to crack exchange rate is?

Me too.

Bars are like an alcoholic's churches. I like to try different ones to worship the spirits

OMFG, it's John Waters-on “Big Think”! and he's talking about his favorite bars.
He lives in SF? I thought he lived in Baltimore.
Last I knew he split his time between Baltimore and NYC, but I'm sure he must have at least one home on the left coast.

Bars near subway stations can be interesting.
Very funny. Rap music has never been played in a gay bar out here in Los Angeles.

So he lives in San Francisco. Some things just don't stay the same. Even John has given up on Bmore.
John still lives in Baltimore. He has more than one home. Atomic Comics in Baltimore still takes his mail.
Oh no, The Stud is SF is just closed. That was the last one.
" I trade deer meat for crack "
I can't believe he didn't say Rawhide
Where are the gay bars with rap music in Australia please and lets keep it undiscovered

Exactly. So I hate the music but like the big dicks that seem to always accompany it.
Cool story bro
