- I recently underwent a fitness test with Luke Craddock of Precise Performance (links below). Luke helped talk me through the hows and whys of metabolic testing to help create a more complete profile of myself as an athlete.

Ok I have decided not to go for an outdoor FTP smash but to pay Luke to come round and test my blood now this looks absolutely fascinating and Luke sure knows his stuff doesn't he 🙌
Good decision!! Drop me a message
@@synergy_performance genuinely would like you to subject me to this next time you're in the area!
Really insightful this testing facility sounds really good for identifying legitimate zones vs doing a standard ftp test and hoping it's right
I'm really looking forward to using the information over the next few months!
Amazing video Chris, really informative. Thanks for going in-depth at your personal results too
Personalized metrics have revolutionized how the professionals train, it's nice to see these understandings trickle down to the general population.
Absolutely, should help a lot of people understand how to get more from themselves!
Great content. Luke seems very knowledgeable. Chris a 1000watt for a minute!!! I can barely hold that for 10 secs.
Thank you. Luke is brilliant to talk to and listen to!! I've had a lot of practice. And as he mentioned, part of it is genetics. We all have our strengths.
Thank you, much appreciated! It helps being passionate about this
Very interesting Chris.. 👍🤩🚴🏅
Thank you Pete, I'm glad you thought so.
Really want to get this test done, am doing Zone 2 rides every week for 3-4 hours, hoping to see benefits next year, thanks Chris!
It was really insightful and definitely would help with conducting very focused training.
Great vid Chris, will pick your brains on this when we next get out for a ride. Hope you and family are well.
I used lactate data back in 2002 when I was training for indoor rowing.
Some clever sole had extrapolated figures from the Sydney gold medal winning men's 8 and so you had a target pace for 10 different eyeballs out distance or time efforts and the training zones. Very motivational having a target pace based on something tangible is good for denying how much pain you're in.
That sounds like a brilliant, but brutal pacing schedule to follow. I can imagine it was a great motivator!
I still have a copy of "training lactate & pulse rate" from the '90s, interesting to see the wheel turn full circle.
I think the dawn of the powermeter era and relative affordability probably held this type of testing/training back from progressing as quickly as it might have done.
Z2 at 300w 😱😱 machine!
But... As we discovered, after that it was all over pretty quickly 🤣
I'm enjoying my dotage! Faster than many is a good enough metric for me. Not looking to throw a rod in the biomechanical engine!
Haha, I'm like that with my car. It still moves, wouldn't dare want it's quirks diagnosed.
@@chrisopie87 The biomechanical vehicle now has a wiring defect between the neck and the left control arm. It is still ticking away. One more incident and the stalwart vehicle could be sidelined indefinitely! The motor has had regular oil changes but at 63 its been a remarkable run!
Here's to hoping there are no more incidents and you can continue to enjoy it for a while longer!
Was just considering doing this at one of our local universities. Always thought my “z2” based off ftp tests was high.
It's worth doing if you can make the time or have access to the test!
Where did you see the biggest difference in zones using the lactate profiling compared to the traditional zones generated from a ramp or 20min ftp test?
I feel the biggest difference is my FTP is set lower, as it is now calculated accurately, rather than an estimation based on a calculation. Zone 2 is also much broader than it was before. I think the big difference is how I will approach intervals going forward.
It must be a myth that cyclist all have spaghetti arms!
