OMG i love this!! I am going on exchange next year, and I am currently trying to decide where I want to go. I am super interested in Brazil, so thank you for making this video!
(força brasil)!!!
I went on an exchange to Brazil as an American student that focused on social justice. Brazil is one of the most extraordinary countries that I visited and I learned so much there. What was the most eye-opening experience was how much the role of socio-economics plays in the country (obvious but it is so fascinating to see how it plays abroad). What I was exposed to was the wealthy, middle-class communities, and the lower class. Visiting well off suburban communities, indigenous communities, and people living in cities and favelas was really eye-opening because all expectations are completely thrown out the window. I made best friends from my exchange and became really great friends with Brazilians that we met. My experience was definitely unique because not only did we volunteer a bit, we each lived with host families and we spent our days meeting new people by going to schools, farms, factories, NGOs, and more. Exposure is so important so when you say "there is poverty everywhere" that is completely false.
Are you saying that when people say “ there is poverty everywhere” that the notion is false? And that poverty only exist in some nation or that only a small population is in poverty?
@@yvetterocksyeah absolutely not we can’t disregard that property exists in every country but in this video she is excluding all the communities there.
You could make a video in Portuguese (for us Brazilian) about how you felt being a foreign student here! What were your expectations, how people treated you, what you thought it was weird, etc!
Went to Sweden as an exchange student and it didn't turn out well years ago.. was listening to some Brazilian music and looked this up... definitely wish I went there instead! People seem to be lively and easier to hang out than other places.
In this video in Portuguese you could talk about the trips you had had during the exchange year, since the big ones organized by rotary to the shortest with the hostfamilies.
Faz video em português sim, mais uma forma de você treinar. Eu fui pra França e voltei ano passado e já esqueci muita coisa também:/ da uma tristezinha
Hello Ave! Thank you so much for publishing these videos! These are very informative and helpful! So it looks like my daughter has a good chance of being placed in Brazil through the rotary. In one of your videos I believe you mentioned you didn't get any credits for classes you took there. Is that correct? Is that typical for an exchange in Brazil do you know? When is your book going to be done by the way?
Melanie Robbins thank you so much !! Yes, you're right I did not receive any credit unfortunately. And in most cases, you won't. But I did meet a few exchange students who got full credit from their original high school. Some high schools have a program that will ride off the entire year for you when you go on a foreign exchange. It really depends on your home school. But as for transcripts, you will most likely not be getting any from Brazil. As for the book- hopefully soon !! I'll have more details in my upcoming videos :)
Thank you so much for responding right away. That is discouraging to hear and may impact her ability to go. How come there are no transcripts given? Do you know? Did you attend as a sophomore or junior? If a sophomore what classes did you take? I was thinking I could talk with her high school ahead of time and see what they would do.... THANK YOU AGAIN SO MUCH!!!
So sorry, I hope I am not bothering you -- we are trying to figure things out before we fully commit. I see Brazil has just 3 years of Secondary School. What classes did you take? Our daughter's school won't write off the whole year and am trying to see if there is still a possibility of her getting some credits somehow. You indicated in one of your videos that you took online classes while you attended school in Brazil. (I think this was the second half of your year there). What online classes did you take? Did you get credit for those? Thank you SO MUCH for any additional information you can give -- it is greatly appreciated!
Melanie Robbins you're welcome !! I went my junior year, and my school ended up giving me 5 elective credits for my exchange. However I had to have proof I went with a blog I posted on, a letter from my principle in Brazil, and from my YEO (Rotary leader) in my home city. Most high schools will let you do online classes. Mine were through EHS (electronic high school) and BYU independent study. I only took a few classes online like financial literacy, US. Gov, and some elective credits. In Brazil you will not be able to choose classes. Their school is set up much like an elementary school, where everybody takes the same classes in the same room. (I have a video on this called "school in Brazil"). My best suggestion is to talk to your school about signing up for online classes that you may do while in Brazil, then test for when you get home from Brazil. If this is not her/his senior year of high school, they can also make up some classes when she returns. I am taking 3 junior year classes instead of electives my senior year, in order to be completely caught up from my exchange. If you have more questions feel free to email me ! Avemarin99@gmail.com I hope this helps :)
Thank you all of the above is very helpful! :) Thank you for sharing your email too and offering to answer more questions we may have! You are awesome to share about your experiences in order to help/benefit others!
the portuguese its realy hard, good lucky learning! so many verb tenses and verbals peoples, on the really some verb tense who we learn in our scools even we dont use hahhahahahaha
Wow! Learn Portuguese is pretty hard, I'm Brazilian girl and I do course of english and it's so much easier! I have a question. Before you came to Brazil, did you know anything about it? About the country? The city's? The beaches... anyway I hope you have a amazing day!
"poverty" everywhere? hello! have you stayed all over brazil to ..to be sure of what you say as a rule? there is a dutch girl who stayed in a nice host family house in beautiful farm house in brazil and she never really complained better than be thrown out of the house.like many are in japan,usa..etc so you should be "grateful" for these aspects! what you seen is just a little part of brazil not the whole! it just like visiting miami and generalize as all there is about the usa! so ignorant and ...foolish
