I know the vid is old, but I just got the game, and I’ve beaten the first few bosses having only successfully parried maybe twice. It’s been frustrating, and I’ve become convinced at certain moments that my game is just glitching/bugging-out and that my parries, which should be effective, simply don’t work. But your “expect some of this… and this.. and this…” section not only made me laugh, but also made me feel better about my laughable attempts at parrying. Now I feel like I will actually get it eventually.
Best parrying guide for code vein! It’s a shame this video went unnoticed despite being better than others.
You're very kind! These words are very encouraging during this bit of a slump while editing the next guide.
I really love that you still play Code Vein even still today.
But of course! I love Code Vein.
i have just download it last week :)))
Im also still playing
I thought this was a new game
Good job on the guide! I watched 3 other guides before yours, and yours is leagues above the other ones. By far the most in depth guide out there. Now off to get killed as i practice. 😆
You'll get the hang of it eventually. I'm glad I could help!
Dude this guide is awesome, just started code vein recently and your guides have really helped me out. Definitely subscribing 👍
Thank you for that! I'm glad my guides were helpful.
Just found this on the subreddit!
Super useful and clear, thanks~!
I'm happy that I was able to help!
best parrying guide so far, thank you!
Awesome guide simple and straightforward. The Perfect Dark music made it even better.
how this not viewed more? mad respect
I'm not sure. Probably because parrying is more for being stylish rather than required to advance. Thank you very much all the same!
Great video,hilarious ending!
It's true! I've been whacked in the face from trying to parry more times than I can count. AND IT STILL HAPPENS.
I just got the game through PS plus, I'm having a lot of fun so far but as someone who's played a lot of Darksouls and Bloodborne trying to get the parry timing right for from some enemies can be quite frustrating lmao, ngl tho, I'll look into the other bloodveils, might help like the parry shields in the souls series, keep up the good work man!
Seriously, thank you for pointing out the flash. I was VERY good at this when I played it awhile ago, just came back going "WHA HAPPUN?!"
I'm one of those lunatics that runs a glass cannon with Ivy Veils, One Handed Swords and Bayonets, heavy emphasis on Gifts... I NEED those parries!
I'm both thankful the game gives good feedback about when a parry will be successful, but they didn't need to make the Ivy veils so obtuse. Best of luck to you!
Thank you, I have played Lies Of P, Elden Ring, Demons Souls, and Dark Souls... this parry is so weird
Great video! Exactly the info I needed, thank you!
Happy to help!
Yeah, you can guarantee the deaths caused of trying to learn parry
The end was hilarious
And very true. Don't give up practicing your parries!
Late to the party but whatever, so in summary: study your foes, learn their patterns, master your preferred Veil-type’s quirks (parry-window and such) but be prepared to fail… a lot?
New subscriber here! Oh yes i love this video, best parry video i have found and the end was hilarious. Thank you.
As a Sekiro Player, Recognizing the Unparriable attacks without a *ding* is useful, thanks
short guide and to the point, thank you
I just saw this and subbed for the ending
That wasn't even 1/10 of the failed parry attempts I recorded.
This may be the saving grace for my challenge run. I really need to master parrying.
Good luck! This guide was an abridged version of what I learned. I kind of glossed over the best ways to land a parry. That is to dodge the first attack of an enemy's combo and parry the follow-up. Alternatively, if the enemy is sprinting towards you they will swing the moment they are within range. Use this to time your parry. Stinger blood veils aren't great for parrying, but it can be done with enough practice.
Good luck! I look forward to see how your run progresses!
@@PseudoDrifter got the first bit of the run in the books. About to stream some more. Made more headway that I actually thought. Today I just wanna beat the first 2 successors, main goal.
@@TheScarletAngel Nice! Best of luck!
@@TheScarletAngel NAISU! I've been busy so I have a lot of catching up to do.
@@PseudoDrifter i parried blade bearer! Then got immediately recked.
It’s a shame this game didn’t go as viral as Elden ring thank you for the guide 😊
And this...and this...I felt that in my soul 😅😅
There's no way around getting walloped while learning parry timings.
my favorite part was the "and this, and some of this, and maybe some of yeah definitely some of this" 🤣
Very helpful thank you! Newbie to Codevein straight out of the trash can :D
Very helpful and to the point. Great vid!
Thanks! I'm glad I could help!
Great guide with splendid comedic relief...😂
"And this.. and this... and definitely some of this...""
LMAO
Good looking out my bro. Good guide. Games pretty enjoyable.
I love Code Vein too! Glad I could help.
i am always the this...and this...and this...and this T_T
Don't give up! I made this guide and I constantly get wrecked while trying to parry. I didn't elaborate much in the video, but dodging an enemy's first swing and parrying the follow-up is the best strategy.
OMG I've been hitting the block button this entire time. I was like f#$% it, I give up, and then I seen in your description it says L2. I thought that was just a crappy drain attack never thought to use it as parry
Yeah, this ain't Sekiro. Big oof, Bidoof. Good luck with your parrying journey!
If I can parry Melenia then this is a piece of cake
Ogre parry is the best.
I switched once to the shawl, but switched immediately back because damn I can't time anything with that lmao!
Ogre is indeed the best. Hounds isn't too bad, but I still prefer ogre style veils (until I get the Ivory Grace).
Just got this game for 9 bucks on PSN . Stoked to get into this older game
I actually like Stinger but whiffing with it feels super punishing compared to Ogre and Hounds :(
Stinger is soooooo weird when it comes to parrying. You can do the dodge-1st-swing-parry-2nd-swing trick, but it doesn't work on every attack. Usually I just parry super early and rely on the linger parry window but even that is a crapshoot. Shame that there are some really good stinger veils.
Instructions unclear. Made a movie instead
That's a common error. You either parried too early or you fired up Adobe Premiere and edited for too long.
Thank you for this. The game doesn't really explain what the parry window was
I wish tutorial area can make me choose mob so I can learn to parry without fear of death and risk losing all haze.
Wow! Thank you!
You're welcome!
THANK YOU SO MUCH
Great vid. Thx bro.
Happy to help!
How are you regenerating health? I need that so much haha
Cool, thanks. Wasn't sure at all about the timing window I swear every action game is different.
Are there items or gifts you can acquire to make it easier ?
Ohh! Thanks for this!
Glad you found it helpful! There's a little bit of info that I left out, but the comments have virtually everything I glossed over in the video.
Nice video greetings from México
Thank you! ¡Y Bienvenido!
Nice tutorial there!!!
Thank you!
What's that one other parry or something I've seen someone do they were in the middle of an attack animation, enemy didn't flinch and attacked but their character deflect and slashed back.
This is better than Rubhen's video.
Thank you! I'm glad you found it helpful!
Not really sure how the triggering parry works, the moment when I press parry button or parrying animation "hits" the enemy attack?
You want to time the white flash for when an enemy's attack connects with your character's model. Ivy style veils are the only exception to this since the window lasts as long as stinger style veils, but starts before you see the white flash. Each veil has different timing so getting it perfect with one style might be too soon or too late compared to another style.
I'm at my 6th playthrough and I never parry because I feel like it's by far the worst inconsistent horribly timed thing in the entire game.
It might be the blood veil you're using. Ivy is weird because the startup is faster than the white flash while Stinger veils are just slow.
Predictive parrying is very very difficult. If an enemy is sprinting at you they will swing immediately when they get into range. I didn't really get a chance to mention that in the video. You can also try to parry follow-up attacks in combos, the easiest one is the fat ladies with halberds. Wait for the horizontal double swing, dodge the first and parry the second. If you're using a slower veil dodge early so you have enough time to start the parry.
It takes A LOT messing up before you can get a feel for the timing. Don't get discouraged! But all that said, parrying is really just for style more than anything else. You can still play at a high skill level without using them at all.
dodge/roll feels better and more forgiving
@@murtazarizvi368 There is no doubt that just dodging is safer. But if you want to be stylish parrying is a good method.
@@PseudoDrifter i couldnt parry. and thats coz it feels confusing. sekiro on the other hand i have mastered it but here havent even done more than 10 times parrying
Can you even parry the spiky balls?
3:33 I don't know why this one made me laugh lol
A JOKE THAT WORKED! YEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!
Thanks
You're welcome!
endless endless endless parry practise
Yup. Expect a lot of getting hit in the face.
Idk if it's because im on a low end and have some frame drop issues but Enemies can still attack me even after I timed it right with the flashing light sometime the attack won't hit like I've dodged it or it's just code vein with bad hitboxes and s
Some attacks are just unparryable. For example, the bugmen with axes and swords are quite notorious for being difficult to parry since only a handful of their moves can be parried. Trying to parry in multiplayer is also very difficult since you need to parry sooner than if you were in a solo world. However if you're parrying at the right time with a move that can be parried and you're still not getting it then it must be Code Vein being weird. I hate to admit it but Code Vein can be glitchy at times.
My problem with parrying in this game is it's a lot more guessing than it is reactionary. I thought it was gonna be like in dark souls but no. I have to unlearn what I learned in dark souls. Maybe it's my fault for practicing on the 2nd long-nosed jackass.
Those elephant bastards are quite hard to parry, even in the best of circumstances. By using an Ogre or Hounds style veil you can sight-parry enemies, but only specific attacks. Ivy has a bit of delay, but is still quick enough to parry between strikes in a combo if you don't dodge the first swing too late. Thorn is the absolute worst for parrying. The parry window actually matches the white flash and is sooooooo slow. If you're using a Thorn style veil, you're going to have a lot of trouble with parries, IMO.
Besides the moves that are just un-parryable, there's plenty that have hardly any warning. The belly bump from the fat guys in Howling Pit and Crypt Spire are an example of attacks that are technically parryable, but have no tell. Generally speaking, it's better to parry the follow-up attacks in a combo rather than an enemy's opening attack. Unless the attack is super telegraphed like swings of the little halberd Lost.
Don't give up though! Parrying takes practice. You'll eventually start working out the timing and tells for what the enemies are going to do. Parrying is a risky maneuver though, and I still get completely wrecked when I go for parries.
I have been trying to parry the fat lady with the axe for hours straight and it doesn’t matter if my character was flashing white I still got hit. Before I looked for videos I tried parrying right before the attack touched my character, I’ve tried doing it late, I’ve tried doing it right before my character flashed white, I’ve tried every timing and nothing works for me unfortunately
@@Am_Josh That's odd. The ones with the axes have more moves that can be parried compared to the ones with hammers. If dodging the first swing and parrying the second isn't really working for you I recommend trying to change up your blood veil. Ogre/Hounds style veils are much easier to land a parry compared to the other two. I'm more than happy to help you figure out the timing. I'm PseudoDrifter on Xbox and PS4 or you can just send me a PM on Discord at PseudoDrifter#0251 if you're on PC. Send me a short clip of you attempting a parry and I'll provide some tips for you.
@@PseudoDrifter I realized the only attack I can parry comes from above and I have to dodge the sides or I’ll get hit no matter what 😂
@@Am_Josh Going from memory, all the axe-wielding fat ladies have an AoE blast, a quick horizontal double swing, a delayed horizontal spin slash, a leaping overhead slam, a different overhead slam that is sometimes followed by a slow spin slash, and a slow thrust. Depending on the type of fat lady they could also buff themselves with extra damage resistance. The only attack that can't be parried is the AoE blast, but you can i-frame it and go for a backstab. The quick horizontal double swing is their most common move so if you can anticipate that and dodge properly you can land a parry on her follow-up. Using a side dodge is actually best since you'll still be in range for the parry to connect. The slow thrust and vertical slam followed by the slow spin are your next best parry options since they have a long wind up. The rest comes down to timing. The hammer-wielding fat ladies are a bit more annoying since you can only really parry the horizontal swings.
It will take some boldness (read: smacks to the face) to get the timing right, but after enough practicing you'll be happy to fight them. You'll start feeling the parries and get them without even thinking about it. Don't get discouraged! You've already got one attack figured out and the others will come in time.
Im so bad i can't even get past the first 5 minutes
Edit: i got it
Congrats! Patience and practice goes a long way in this style of game.
I didn't need this guide because I managed to figure out all the kinks for parrying myself. Did it take about 5 hours of dedication parrying every enemy I could find to see if their attack could even be parried or not? Yes. Which blood veil is my favorite? If I had to choose one, I'll go with the spikes, because I like the animation, and quick casting it after a basic attack does AoE damage to anything else unfortunate enough to be standing too close. If I want to have fun in a challenge run, I choose the hounds, because both hits from the hounds give me additional hp regen after you get Silva's blood code thingy at last campaign boss
I ignored parry because every single enemy in this game can easily one shot you.
I'm playing this in 2024 2 days from 2025 and can confirm the parrying system is a bitch😅
And still... none of you tell when press parry
And this...
and this... :p
Oh yeah definitely some of this.
The guide was good but the "joke" at the end dragged for WAY TOO goddamn long. I kept watching dumbfounded thinking it would end but it just kept going and going.
Edit: Jesus it was 45 seconds.
I had a lot of clips of me failing to parry.
