Pain - suffering- torment- loosing the will to live- lost the will to lve- contemplating death in its vilest of forms- welcoming death Ooh! I'm at the top!! Well done!!!
Thank you! It's a nasty, nasty, brute of a climb is this. If you ever give it a go and make it to the top, there's very little in the UK you need to be even remotely afraid of...
Just did this today- made it, but CRAZY!! (Def a 10/10👍)
Chapeau! Fantastic effort! It’s absolutely nuts, that one! If you made it up there, then you’ll be good to go for the other cobbled hills in the area (Shibden Wall, etc.)...
Did this the other week!!! Absolute belter. Def 10/10. Shibden wall is also close by it is cobble tastic🚲🚲👍👍
Thanks - it’s a great climb, that’s for sure! I have videoed Shibden Wall (ua-cam.com/video/Ug-2R2p0Aqk/v-deo.html ), and its cousin on the other side, Ploughcroft Lane. And if you like cobbles, have a look for Halifax Lane and Gibb Lane... 😉
That last bit looks killer!!!.
It’s a nuts piece of road, that’s for sure! Have a look at Asterton Bank and Abdon Burf for two other classically hard climbs…
The paper boy must be some lad. 😁
😂😂😂 I suspect his pocket money went on an e-bike...
Like a trooper
If you like your climbs, you’ve got to have a go at this one (as well as the better known Shibden Wall!)
Just interested, what was your weight here and gearing, cheers.
No probs - at the time I rode this, I was about 70kg and was using a 34/32 combination. It's a bit of a monster, this one...
Foook dat. lol. Great effort
Cheers!
Cracking effort! Horrible hill!
Cheers - thank you! Along with Hardknott, this is one of the two toughest ‘normal’ road climbs in England and it’s a real struggle (far, far more than The Struggle!) If you’d like to see another of similar, then may I commend Abdon Burf to you - it’s a remarkably close third to Hardknott and Trooper Lane…
Tougher than Hardknott?
Hmm. A genuinely tricky question. I'd say they felt about honours even, but they go about it in different ways. Hardknott's about twice the length so it wears you down gradually, but Trooper Lane, although shorter, waves its difficulty right in your face from the get-go and stays that way to the top. Hardknott gets into your head, and under your skin, but this just stands there, legs akimbo shouting 'come and have a go if you think you're hard enough!'. Does that make sense?
@@WheelygoodCycling Yep brilliant answer thanks, really helps quantify just how tough Trooper Lane really is
@@WheelygoodCycling I did it earlier today. Thought I wasn't going to make it at many points, it is an absolute monster. I had a car behind me at the toughest point 2/3rds up trying to get me to pull over to let him past. Needless to say, I wasn't having any of it. In fact that spurred me on. Not done Hardknott but have done Wrynose East, so I can definitely relate to your analogy 🤣
🤣 Impressive to hold your nerve with a car up there - you’d likely never have got started again. Once the cobbles start, it’s just a relentless effort. Back off once and your momentum is gone, you stop and it’s all over. Have you tried Dog House Lane, or Mytholm Steeps down the road at Hebden Bridge(ish)?
@@WheelygoodCycling I will get to Mytholm Steeps for sure. I'm just north of Bradford, so not far. My local climb is Holden Lane just outside Silsden, alias the Robin Hood climb or Côte de Silsden (having featured on the Tour de Yorkshire). About 1k at 13% average, it certainly opens the lungs.
400W at some points just to go at 3-4 mph. Wow this is digusting 😂
Yeah, it’s a properly nasty piece of road - not only is it steep, but the cobbles take away any momentum that you might have built up…
That's looks horrific
😂😂 It is...
