We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.

I recently installed this in our home and love it. I also installed Homebridge on a raspberry pi which added HomeKit support to Ring and it works great. Also added a Kwikset 888 keypad deadbolt and it is oddly satisfying to unlock your door with a pin and have it turn your alarm off also

I just bought this system the other day with a couple of add-ones. Going to install it next week (pray I don't get burgled this week!!) I'm very happy with the purchase and this review has just confirmed my gut feelings with the system for me. Great video, thank you very much.

Thank you for the great review. I’m hoping that you can answer a few questions about the system. So I’m looking to use this for a family vacation home, because of that I have a couple of questions. 1- What is the limit for the number of shared access PINs that you can have? 2- what flexibility do you have on temporary PINs (ex. Time frames, etc.) 3- with the batteries in the sensors, are you notified through the app when they get low, or do the sensor just stop working? 4- how many people can have access to ring account on the app, for example can my parents, myself, my spouse, siblings, siblings spouses all have the app on our individual phones to be able to arm and disarm the system? 5- can I manage the system remotely or are there limitations? Thanks again for the great info.

    Great review, man!
I've been looking for a good home security system that I can purchase as one ecosystem so I don't have to use multiple apps, but I haven't been able to find one yet. Right now I use Kangaroo Security and they are decent and affordable but they don't offer any outdoor cams and if wireless connectivity was lost, I'd be out of luck. I like that Ring offers both battery and cellular backup as well as outdoor cams, but the Ring wireless cams don't seem to be as good as the Eufy cams but Eufy is screwing up right now with their latest firmware update botching everything and causing connection issues. I've seen a couple of reviews of their home security system, but so far I think Ring is better. I still have some research to do, but right now I'm really leaning toward a Ring ecosystem. Thanks again for the review!

Finally getting rid of ADT. I have a question please . I'm gonna have three different pads in three different floors. I need the pad upstairs not to chirp at all when any sensor is opened or closed.
And I need the one in the middle and Basement floors to only chirp when certain sensors are opened and closed.
Are these options customizable? Thanks so much.

Thanks to this review and several others by security.org. I went with Ring home security system. To me its the best value for the money. Ring is the cheapest system to buy, Its very simple to set up. Even for a non computer savvy person like me, and what I like about Ring better than its closest competitors such as Simplisafe and Cove is that Ring is the only one that doesn't charge you extra OR make you buy into the more expensive monitoring plans than they advertise to lure customers in just to get access to your doorbell footage. And with Ring you can expand and add as many extra cameras as you like and nothing changes with price. This is just not true with any other security system. Also with ring You have the option to self monitor if you want but the only reason I was even considering self monitoring was the high cost of many of these companies monitoring plans. Ring's $10 a month plan is a bargain compared to every other company out there and its no contract. So I went with it. I hate contracts that lock you into spending with a company. If a product is good and worth it then you don't need to force your customers into contracts to keep their business . Ok so ring doesn't have a fancy keypad that looks like a computer screen but who cares All that is for is to show everyone you have a security system. They don't have key fobs either but considering that everyone has a cell phone and the system is controlled through your phone, you don't really need an extra key fob to add to your key ring. I almost went with Simplisafe because a neighbor has it and he showed it to me and I was sold on every aspect of Simplisafe except one. Simplisafe offers a $15 a month monitored plan but what they try to hide from people is that in order to get full access to your security system you have to pay $25 a month So that axed Simplisafe and I found out Cove dose the same thing. SO for me, Now that I have the Ring system installed and I did it myself I am happy with it. I did opt for the $10 a month fully monitored plan and they give you a 7 day practice period before the system goes live and I tripped it by accident a few times and was immediately called by Ring to see if everything was OK. Also compared to my friends security system from ADT that he has a 5 year contract with and pays $65 a month for monitoring, it works pretty much the same way the ADT system works. Ring's system also has the chimes that go off even when the system is unarmed so when you are home and a door or window is opened the system sounds through the whole house just like all the big expensive companies offer. So for me, for the money in initial cost, and the optional monthly monitoring, Ring is the best system out there and no one else can touch them.

Will Google Assistant work with this or should I just go with Alexa? Also, with the cameras, can I remotely turn on the cameras on from miles away to watch whats happening at my house? Also, can the window and door monitors be activated and/or deactivated individually or no? And can you have more than one keypad in the house, one at the front door and one at the back door? Lastly, can you get the system at Amazon or should I go to the nearest electronics store? Keep up the good work😀

Gabe I have a question. Does the keypad require drilling into the wall? I am wondering if it's powered by ac, I have to plug it in, the cord will look unattractive dangling from the remote to the outlet, etc. How intrusive is the keypad? I am torn between Ring Alarm and SimpliSafe. Moreover, do I really need to utilize the keypad at all, especially if I just operate the whole system from the app? My big thing is drilling into the wall. That part of the process is not as easy as the rest of the installation, and one might be better off calling a technician, especially if you have no confidence in drilling and installing wire through a wall. Thanks.

It does not. It can look a bit weird. Have to finagle it. I personally don't use th keypad that often. And with SimpliSafe, for example, you can simply use the 3M stickies to get it up without drilling

i was wondering what if you have a wifi outage and it stops working will it automatically connect again when wifi is back up

All of the DIY systems we reviewed should work the way you described, but glitches happen and software isn't perfect. We recommend you always double check.

What company provides monitoring service for Ring? Their website states that they don't own their own monitoring center.

Hi BF, I have been searching for this answer for hours because I feel like I figured it out once and Ring does not seem to like to divulge this for some reason. Anyway, the company is Rapid Response according to my one hour phone call with Ring tonight.

All DIY systems need a WiFi connection, but you don't need the pro monitoring.

No glass breaks is what is stopping me from purchasing. Great video BTW.

Amazon Echo devices can be used to listen for glass break, we have an older echo we didn't use, just got this alarm and put it in a room with windows by our keypad. Kind of nice to tell Alexa to arm or disarm and have it listen for glass break

Police say glass break sensors are the biggest false triggers that sends them out. Wind, thunder, loud music, kids screaming, etc can trigger them. Some have suggested putting the door/window sensors on the glass itself, since if the glass breaks its likely they will become separated and trigger alarm (not sure how viable that is, but have seen this suggestion before).

Just get motion sensors. Cheap and more reliable vs glass break sensors

Motion detectors >>>> glass break sensors..

Glass breaker sensors are annoying and give false alarms for days, its a waste of time.

Only complaint i've got is the ring website gives you areas on the map that are suffering from faults/outages, Surely this is great info for burglars?

  • @darrylpolite8722

Is the siren louder on the new version? That's what prevented need from taking the plunge on the first one. I tested using a store demo and with the volume all the way up the siren was not loud at all even though it came from there base and keyboard. Do they allow for an external siren to be added to this yet that is loud?
