"The child who is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth" Many times we create the evil we see in the world without knowing. Be patient, be kind, be compassionate.
The only thing I heard him have any legit complaints about was school bullies. That has gone on forever. Just never used to be used as an excuse for EVERYTHING luke it is today. I sure pretty much everyone has been bullied at some point in their lives or will. It's ridiculous people use that as an excuse, esp when not going after those bullies themselves.
I'm not going to sit here and listen to subtle victim shaming. Those victims didn't create evil. Everyone has a choice and this individual is entirely to blame for his horrible, evil choices.
I've been told by my friend who's Korean, that in Korea the government doesn't have resources or programs who help low income or no income individuals. Also there aren't a lot of resources for the mentally ill, there's a stigma in their society, it's looked down upon so a lot of people are not getting the help they need either
As a Canadian living abroad, I love these international cases. There are a lot of true crime youtubers who cover a lot of the same stories. Mostly high profile. So cases like these, that I've never heard, are a nice change! There's a case of a thai serial killer, named Somkid Pumpuang, that's quite interesting!
Seoul remind me of New York, extremes of wealth & poverty, high cost of living and hectic life pace. New York has SRO hotels, Seoul has Gosiwon. The U.S. mental health system has major gap but mental health support is virtually non-existent because of cultural stigma .I really like that you cover different countries. Sadly even crime shows what we have in common, we are human
Rest in peace, innocent young people. Seeing the devastated relatives is heartbreaking. And thank you, Adrian, for being different. Once again, not only did you tell us about the crime story uncovered by many other channels who don't bother exploring anything beyond UK/US, but also gave us an inside into Korea's society, culture and history. Very respectful and articulate coverage.
Oh my God, it was a little surreal hearing him comment on _A Bittersweet Life._ That is an incredible film and has the exact _opposite_ theme as Sang-jin's motivation. The entire film is about the ugliness, emptiness, isolation, and ultimate pointlessness of that kind of vengeance and violence fueled existence, and yet he saw that and went, _"Yeah, that's what I wanna be"?_ I can only theorize (not being a mental health professional or knowing the man) that he already felt so alone and hollow that he related to the main character on that level and saw the violence the character committed as some kind of relief, no matter how fleeting and harmful it ended up being to them. Sort of how when some s*icide victims become euphoric when they decide to end it, because the idea of finally being "free" is so soothing to them in that moment, because they're so lost in their pain they can't imagine any healing or hope in the future and can't think of how it will hurt those around them. But yeah, media is often blamed for unwell peoples' actions despite the fact that the person's disturbed state inherently means they aren't seeing things clearly or correctly, therefore the product is not to blame since they can and do interpret and twist anything no matter how harmless into a manifestation of their own issues.
Wow - I can’t believe the amount of research you put in to this. Very interesting to know the details of life in another country - well done! And love your kitty!

Thank you for making another video, Adrian! It was fun to see Nero being fluffy and cute too! It's also very interesting to learn about some countries even if it's a criminal case that is covered during the majority of the video!
Very interesting case today as someone who suffers from both BPD and dysthymia. 🖤 It truly shows how much you care about all victims of all tragedies you cover seeing as you weren’t able to honour them as well as you usually do. Big respect Adrian. Keep it up, greetings from Vancouver, BC. 🇨🇦 🙂✌🏼
such a disturbing case.. as always a great in depth dive into a case I've not heard of. Hands down one of my favorite things about your channel. Not only do you do such a great job covering it but the fact that you pick lesser known cases from different countries than most do makes it even more fascinating to listen to. I've binge watched many of your videos for the past two weeks. What I love about your channel is that you don't glorify violence, not focusing too too much on the gory details about murder. Unlike some true crime vids that reveal insane, twisted details about how the victims were harmed. That's why I find your content appealing but not scary, some of those gory ones I watched from other channels have scarred me. Thank you for paying respect and introducing the landscape and culture of each location, and of course thank you for respecting the victims.

Hope the families have found peace.

It doesn't matter if they are rich or poor, this was a horrible tragedy. I get it. Rich people can be insufferable for their snobbery, greed, and ego because they have the cash but not all wealthy people are like this and, as Count Dankula puts it, if you have an opinion, spread your message but if you use violence, it doesn't help your cause, it destroys it. As for future cases, Adrian, since I mentioned Count Dankula, you should cover one story he covered as well, which is of the Smiley Face Bomber, aka, Luke Helder, the rock musician turned terrorist as he had a huge bone to pick with the government.
Agreed except for one point, literally all rich people are like that. Having that much money gives you a brain disease. You don't relate to normal people or have any of the same problems. Look at Elon spending $44b to beg people to like him online
@@Soledata a thousand years ago it was illegal to people to try to work their way up the economic ladder, today people move up and down the ladder constantly. Yes the poor have it harder to do thay but it does happen. This system is not the feudal one anymore, the rich don't become poorer if the rest become richer. You might be able to make your argument against corporate tycoobs and billionaires but the average upper middle class person is not like you describe them from my experience.

Hi Adrian, this story was so good! Every time I watch one of your stories, I learn something new, about that country or state, it's beliefs & culture, and most of all the people who live in this area before you get to the story. I love that your branching out and trying new things & it works every time!! You still put the same love & care into each story you do, you make sure that the victim/victims stories are told with respect, & that is what has me coming back each time to watch the next story you have for us!! Keep up the great work, you are meant to do this! I raise my cup of coffee to you sir!! ☕🤗
All the cases you cover are interesting, but I always find the ones that touch on systemic issues of a society or niche communities especially thought provoking.
Love the new format Adrian! You being on location connects the case even more and immerses you more into the environment of the both the victims and killers.
Hi Adrian. Thank you so much for doing these “deep dives” for us. Every case you do is one I haven’t heard about or know very little about, so thank you for all you do. Take care of you! Grab a decaf, pet your cat, and decompress. See you on Monday!😊
Those gasawans (pretty sure I spelled it wrong, lol) aren't only in SK. Maybe the fact they're called that is unique. But in China they also have "homes" like this. They are even worse. Ppl live in a three sided cage with about a foot of space around the parameters of the cage, the cage has a mattress in it. They share everything in common areas. It's truly depressing and disturbing. Lots of elderly, disabled etc. One elderly man said 'I have to get out of this 'apt' and just go sit at the park and feed the birds, or I'll go crazy in that place.' But this place you've shown is horrific as well. So inhumane.
I love how you cover cases from all over the place! I can’t help but point out that gosiwon is pronounced like goshiwon. Hard to tell from the English spelling of the word! Great work as always.

Nero!! My favorite empty-headed true crime feline.😂 Thank you for covering this case. I fully support international cases. Case Suggestion: Skye Budnick. A young woman from CT, USA who secretly bought a one-way ticket to Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan for April 2008 & then seemingly vanished. I'm only 2 years younger than her, also from CT, & was also in Sapporo in April 2008, so I feel deeply connected to her case & it really needs more exposure. Her sister has released a podcast called "Surviving Skye" which is a great place to start. Thank you.
I lived in Gangnam when this happened. Rage against the wealthy in this case is a bit of a red herring to be honest. Borderline personality disorder in males tends to manifest in very violent crimes and this is something that really needs to be looked at.
Those with BPD tend to turn their anger, frustration and hate inward rather than against others. All people with mental illness are not killers, not all killers have mental illness. I tend to think that schizophrenia, psychopathy and addiction would have higher instances of outward violence and delusion.
@@cdes1776 As someone who has BPD, it's somewhat true- self destruction is very common, but it's not to say that those with BPD don't have violent tendencies due to impulsive behavior. Especially when it becomes unchecked after a very long period of time, some people can't manage to find a way to regulate their emotions and they end up taking it out on others in a very sad way. There's also the fact that Borderline Personality Disorder and Narcissistic Personality Disorder (which is what I suspect the man also had, vulnerable narcissism specifically) end up combining frequently, usually as a comorbidity of the other, which can provoke more violent behavior depending on the symptoms and how they manage themselves.

It's ridiculous people use that as an excuse, esp when not going after those bullies themselves.
@@srjwildcat3589 yep it's a victim and soft mentality,oh it's not really my fault I only did it because I was done to this and that.
I'm not going to sit here and listen to subtle victim shaming. Those victims didn't create evil. Everyone has a choice and this individual is entirely to blame for his horrible, evil choices.

I love you Adrian for all your global coverage of cases! Thank you for making us aware❤
Thanks! You do a fantastic job with your channel.
I've been told by my friend who's Korean, that in Korea the government doesn't have resources or programs who help low income or no income individuals. Also there aren't a lot of resources for the mentally ill, there's a stigma in their society, it's looked down upon so a lot of people are not getting the help they need either
That’s really sad
The correlation between mental illness and crime is documented. It's a shame that they do not make he connection.
Sounds familiar and the US doesn't have too much room to judge when it comes to mental health, more appropriately called mental wealth$$$!!!🙏😢⚖️🤔❣️
UR korean friend is clueless there is tons of welfare programs for low income household. Seeking mental help is mainstream now.
@@mauricedavis2160 i mean, we can say that any country not having mental health care is bad
Totally agreed lol. I am running out True Crime stories to listen, I crossed the same stories from different UA-camrs.
Thank you for presenting this so respectfully. Love and prayers to the families affected by this. ❤️🙏🏼
“Perhaps he moved to Seoul to find his soul” gotta love Adrian.
Loving these Asian true crime stories
Even though I relate to Sang-Jin's pain and suffering, my heart goes with the victims and their friends or relatives
One of the most professional and best true crime channel on UA-cam. Love me some coffeehouse crime.
Oh my God, it was a little surreal hearing him comment on _A Bittersweet Life._
That is an incredible film and has the exact _opposite_ theme as Sang-jin's motivation. The entire film is about the ugliness, emptiness, isolation, and ultimate pointlessness of that kind of vengeance and violence fueled existence, and yet he saw that and went, _"Yeah, that's what I wanna be"?_
I can only theorize (not being a mental health professional or knowing the man) that he already felt so alone and hollow that he related to the main character on that level and saw the violence the character committed as some kind of relief, no matter how fleeting and harmful it ended up being to them.
I met an idiot white supremacist (as if there were any other kind lol) whose favorite movie was American History X.
Middle aged lower class losers have nothing to live for, even a dumb reason to die is welcome in that hole.
I've got it ready to go on Netflix right now! 🙂
one of the best k-movies. 황정민 plays such good bad guys--and good good guys too. i don't care much for 이병헌, though.
I was boutta say "oh thank god it's not fight club" and then i realize "oh he did the same thing the weirdos over here do with fight club"
So glad that you actually followed through on your poll. I always like learning how other countries deal with these crimes.

Another great video as always. I am here for whatever type of video you wish to make. As I’ve grown accustomed to overseas stories, it’s nice to have a break every so often and throw in a happier or less depressing story every now and then. As I’m sure mentally you need a break as well from all the research and so on. No matter what direction you choose, I will always be here to support your efforts.
Thank you for making another video, Adrian! It was fun to see Nero being fluffy and cute too! It's also very interesting to learn about some countries even if it's a criminal case that is covered during the majority of the video!

Love the guest appearance at the end..
You are one of my favorite true crime narrators. Very interesting case. I know the poverty level has much to do with this, and its sad in every country. Thank you for your honest telling of this story and giving respect to the victims!

I have now watched literally all of your videos from the beginning and I really admire how cases are from around the world and how you deliver the stories... Great job! !! I have tried to do videos like such but I find it really hard. Will just support you for now... Keep it up❤️❤️
I've binge watched many of your videos for the past two weeks.
Your channel is the best! You get right to the story and add some geographic info. I love how you honor the victims the most. Thank you!!
So bloody sad. Thank you Adrian for your varied and vast deep dives into these tragic cases.

Hi Adrian! I have been a big fan of your channel since last year. I really appreciate how objectively you share the story but still keep the compassion and respect, especially for the victims. Thank you for sharing this case - South Korea is a fascinating country with a very interesting history and culture. Adrian, love how u bring us international cases, especially as they're lesser or unknown. Great channel mate 😎🇦🇺
As for future cases, Adrian, since I mentioned Count Dankula, you should cover one story he covered as well, which is of the Smiley Face Bomber, aka, Luke Helder, the rock musician turned terrorist as he had a huge bone to pick with the government.
nah the rich can go fuck off from this world not all the rich is just as lame as not all men
Almost all wealthy people are, in fact, like that. The rich don’t want anything to do with the poor
Agreed except for one point, literally all rich people are like that. Having that much money gives you a brain disease. You don't relate to normal people or have any of the same problems. Look at Elon spending $44b to beg people to like him online
@@hitthegoat Do I become like that if I win the lottery? If I get a big promotion? Other than political dogma what do you base this on?
@@Soledata a thousand years ago it was illegal to people to try to work their way up the economic ladder, today people move up and down the ladder constantly. Yes the poor have it harder to do thay but it does happen. This system is not the feudal one anymore, the rich don't become poorer if the rest become richer.
They remind me of these coffin apartments in HK. They hardly have any space at all.
I love how you cover cases from all over the place! I can’t help but point out that gosiwon is pronounced like goshiwon. Hard to tell from the English spelling of the word! Great work as always.

I lived in Gangnam when this happened. Rage against the wealthy in this case is a bit of a red herring to be honest. Borderline personality disorder in males tends to manifest in very violent crimes and this is something that really needs to be looked at.
That's a really interesting point.
