  • John Cena answering a Q&A at his show 'An Evening with John Cena' at Melbourne 8 June 2017, on why WWE no longer acknowledges Chris Benoit deleting him from all mentions on both the WWE Network and website
    Transcript:
That’s a very difficult question and I’ll answer it like this. Often times we get caught up in a person’s ability and their performance.
‘And this transcends WWE. It is a problem with sport and a problem with entertainment.
‘People will do bad things but if they’re good at what they do, sometimes those things are overlooked. I don’t believe in that. I think you should take ownership in your actions. All of them. Not just ones that are performed in front of an audience.
‘I think our company’s stance on the entire situation is to set a precedence of athletics and a precedence of entertainment of taking ownership for your actions.’

The kids don't deserve it, but its honestly better for em to not venture into dangerous territory, whether they would've been successful at what they'd do or not, the knowledge that they're benoits kids and he did what he did, will never go away. That dark cloud over their family name will always be there. No matter what. It sucks, but it is what it is.

It was said that Chris Benoit's brain scans showed that he had the mental capacity of an 80 year old with advanced dementia. These were said to have been caused directly from all the hard hits he took in the ring. Not to mention all the addictions he faced with pain killers that he relied on because of the blows he took in the ring. They are definitely still his actions yes, but I think there should be a level of understanding considering there could always be the possibility that Chris wasn't in his right mind when he committed these horrible crimes.

And that matters and is relevant, its a hell of a different thing then Chris being a serial killing psycho ya know, for all we know he literally was in some crazy tunnel vision that night, now again like John says that does not discount or absolve Chris of his actions- assuming the narrative is true but wont go there lets say it is- but still the fact he had that much brain damage is damn sure relevant and yeah quite literally does matter when discussing why he did it, its not like Chris was some crazy psyhco his whole life hid it and one day decided to kill his family ya know cause he wanted to and got off on it, absolutely bloody not!. And this is coming from someone who will always believe that every single convicted proven rapists' pedophile and murderer should have a zero tolerance one strike policy and be executed the hour after conviction no less.So I'm not taking what he did lightly and am trying to override my admitted bias as Benois like biggest fan ever even still but yeah those details absolutely matter and change the entire context of what happened.

That was cool politician response, but if you know anything about the controversies concerning the WWE in the past then you'd understand that they only blackballed Benoit MERELY because of all the heat they got due to the brutality of the incident. Sad to say, Benoit and Guerrero's deaths had to happen for them to finally put an end to the epidemic of prescription drugs in the industry otherwise those issues would still be prevalent.

This isn’t a debate kid you’re trying to dispute the truth to what you believe is the cause. The evidence is overwhelming that it wasn’t a freak episode of steroids but a continued change of his state of mind leading to the deaths. All he cared about was Eddie Guerrero and had severe depression after his passing. From 1st hand of people that was in his circle said he was changing leading to the deaths but just thought he was going through something with eddies passing which he was but it wasn’t to the extreme as they thought. 1. This event shocked the entire WWE world, the wrestlers, management, the fans, and the family, This was tragic and I can’t think of any other words than tragic. When tragic events like this happen people try and rationalize it. However, it cannot be rationalized because it was coming from the head of a very mentally, physically, and emotionally sick man. He was not evil by any means, he was sick. Drugs, severe head trauma, severe grief, mental depression, etc... caused this man to do what he did. He did something evil, but I cannot say I hate him or want him to burn in hell because he wasn’t fully or if any conscience of his actions or in the right mind to be held accountable for what he did. He is another victim in this horrible act just like his family was. I am not making any excuses for what he did because it was horrible. I feel nothing but pity for Chris Benoit. I hope him and his family are in a better place. I also hope that the WWE, close friends, and family can find some sort of closure.
    2. Scenario: Your sibling (who you love) Is an amazing person who everyone loves, who gives money to the poor and helps so many different people. She lives for 25 years and everything is fine. All of a sudden she is diagnosed medically with paranoid schizophrenia and medical depression. Then she kills somebody and then herself.
Are you going to ever hate your sibling for what she did or blame her? For me, the answer is no because she was very sick and wasn’t mentally conscience or aware of what she was doing. She was a good person who brain was damaged, which led her to do something very horrible.
I do not think we should hate Chris Benoit, I think we should pity him. He was one of the best at what he did undisputed, but you cannot highlight him or put him in the hall of hame because that would be in poor taste and disrespectful for the lives that he negatively impacted or ruined.
    3. The WWE is just as much a family as his family was to him. They all are together day in and day out. You cannot expect a family to speak on matters such as these. People want to hear the WWE either come out and publicly show anger and outrage, but they loved him. Or they want the WWE to highlight him, which is majorly insensitive. They rather not say anything and try to move on.
P.S. as far as a business point-of-view goes they were getting ridiculed and smashed by the media about drug use, head trauma, steroids, etc... This almost closed down the whole organization. So they had to not say anything and shut him out completely. However, they do not do this anymore. It’s been a long time since this event, and now if you go to the network you can find videos and stuff of him, but it has disclaimers and other stuff so they aren’t seen as highlighting him. The videos of him are just there because he was a big part of the company and has done a lot of things and that shouldn’t be forgotten.

@@dodykusumanto8377 Well said as well. He and his family are where they are now after this Life. Nancy wasn't a saint either. Sure, she didn't kill anyone officially (that's a rabbit hole) but as much as I enjoyed Benoit as a kid neither him nor Nancy or the truest victims here. Yes, they suffered from themselves and their own actions of pain pills and starting their affair and then marriage, but the TRUEST victim is Daniel. That boy was at the mercy of his parents. In the end one or both failed to help him too. We will probably never know 100% what happened. I don't think it's as cut and dry, black and white, etc. as the media or Vice likes to portray it to be. But, I don't think it's as extreme as someone killing them all outside of Benoit either. It was probably a little bit of both. Maybe with all the pills they had in that house they drugged or Nany drugged Daniel to keep him calm or help him sleep and/or Chris was there or came home and it went horribly wrong. Next thing you know Chris harms Nancy out of intense passionate rage and then realizes the gravity of losing both Nancy and his dear Son. He literally has nothing now to live for and feels the need to end himself. Just what I think could've happened but even I'm sure I'm missing things or it's not quite that simple maybe too. All I believe is Chris, Nancy, and Daniel are all where they are supposed to be now that they have left this world. Whatever you believe in if that's Heaven or Hell or something different. RIP Daniel. Poor kid.

I still remember watching Chris in a match and I do not remember who he was facing, maybe Albert because I recall it was a tall big guy and he had Benoit in a lifted position. Whoever it was accidentally dropped Chris behind him and Chris landed straight onto his head on some chairs I guess that were planned to have him fall on them in a safer way but instead it was completely botched. That’s just one of the many instances that I’ve seen with Benoit getting severely hurt in the business. WWE knew while taping the “memorial edition” of RAW that Chris Benoit was a leading suspect in Nancy and Daniels deaths and that police believed it to be a murder suicide.
There were also several wrestlers that thought it may have been possible that Benoit killed Nancy and Daniel. By the time RAW aired the cat was out of the bag.
What happens on Meadow Lane Drive was in part due to the culture WWF/E fostered. No Ifs, Ands or Buts.
Why does the WWE censor Chris, ask why they also censor Nancy and you get your answer as to why they censor Chris Benoit, One word: GUILT

What Benoit did was inexcusable. But at the same time in my eyes it wasn't truly him that did it if that makes any sense. Had he not gotten so severely brain damaged through his long run in wrestling for his diving headbutts and chair shots to the head. I strongly believe that he and his family would still be here today and would be without any question a hall of famer.

The only reason they pretend to care about Benoit’s final actions is because you people care. The fact that people treat Benoit as anything other than a victim of carelessness on WWE's part and CTE, is telling that people seem to only want to support people who act like victims who weren't truly wronged, but turn a blind convenient eye to those that were. Not saying what Chris did was right, but I can say that it wasn't really "Chris Benoit" who did it. Not really.

Bryan Danielson, CM Punk, Cesaro, and Kenny Omega never killed anyone -- why should they be subordinate to someone who did? If we forgive someone for heinous actions just because they were famous, that means Charles Manson belongs on the pop charts.
