- 4 Days and 51 km in the Sacred Valley in mid-April. Urubamba to Lares via Pumahuancajasa Pass, and Lares to Patacancha via Ipsay Pass
00 Intro
02 Arriving in Urubamba. Colectivos depart multiple times each day from Cusco. There's plenty of cheap accomodation in Urubamba.
10 Day 1: 14.5 km with 1,600 meters elevation gain
30 Camping before the pass. I tried to get as close to the pass as possible and took a spot at just over 4,400 meters. Up until this point there were numerous places to camp with plenty of water.
10 Day 2: 16 km with 350 meters elevation gain
45 Pumahuancajasa Pass: 4,780 meters. There are a few sheltered camping spots on the pass, but without water.
47 Arriving in Lares. I stayed near the thermal baths and never walked down to the proper town, but there was a guesthouse, a small shop and a couple of restaurants near the baths.
50 Day 3: 14 km with 1,200 meters elevation gain
23 Ipsay Pass: 4,480 meters
02 Camping west of Ipsay Pass: There were no people around when I arrived, but the friendly dogs suggested to me that I wasn't the first person to stop here. Later in the evening I met the farmer and he was very friendly.
10 Day 4: 6 km downhill
50 Arriving in Patacancha. There is a colectivo that goes from here to Ollantaytambo, but I did have to wait a few hours.
