  • This week it's time to take another ferry trip as we cross the Gulf of Finland from Tallinn to Helsinki aboard Eckero Line's MS Finlandia. This looks a great ship from the outside, quite large as well for the two-and-a-half-hour crossing. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't up to much but was the ship? Well, have a look for yourself as I'll take you inside and outside the vessel to give you a feel for what it's like.
    On the return leg, I sailed with Viking Line and the video for that will be coming out in a few weeks time. I think it's good to compare and I'll let you be the judge of which one you think is best.
    As always, thanks very much for watching. New subscribers, you are more than welcome plus any likes and comments you wish to make - you know the drill and your contributions and support are always appreciated.
    Hope you enjoy the video and, cheers for now!

      Hi Simon, cheers mate. Yes the weather was a bit disappointing! However, it did improve later in the day and my return trip (on a different ferry) was a lot more picturesque. Some fantastic scenery on leaving Helsinki. Probably be out next month that video 👍

    Ships like this often did have cabins below the car-deck until a certain other Estonian ferry had an issue.

      Hi. melglobus, yes I think it’s probably to do with the original symbols on the wheels like cherry’s, bananas, grapes. Probably showing my age here, I don’t play them much tbh but they’re probably way more advanced than that these days!

    Unlucky with the weather... I did a similar trip 15 years ago and had a beautiful day in Helskinki.. . I then took a helicopter back to Tallinn - a remarkable experience although one of the aircraft crashed a couple of years later killing everyone on board so the service got cancelled... Really, really noisy, cramped and uncomfortable so I think I'd prefer the ferry!!!

      @LetsMakeaTrip  2 роки тому

      Hi Matt, great to hear from you, just catching up on my comments a bit! Yes the return trip (on a different ferry) did have slightly better weather and the departure from Helsinki through all the little islets was amazing! That video will be out next month probably. I think Air Baltic will fly you back these days for a price, but agree I much prefer the ferry either way even if the weather’s not so great.

    Hello. The Terminal labeled C DID in fact exist. But is no longer in use as such since NORDIC JET LINE ceased its operations several years ago. So it was a fastferryterminal. The buildings should still be seen a bit withdrawn from the other terminals close to the nearby small inner city marina.

    • @LetsMakeaTrip

      Hi Seb, thanks for the comment and the explanation regarding the C terminal. Much appreciated 😊👍

      Hi John, yes i could have flown Air Baltic from Riga (where I originally flew out to from BHX) to Tallinn and/or Helsinki but for the purpose of this channel I thought I’d try a few different things. The ferry back was even better price-wise and, imo, a nicer ship. That video will be out in a few weeks. Thanks for the comment 😊

      Haha, the mysterious missing terminal (I’m sure there’s a reason)! Yes the shop was very popular, as were the fruit machines. Me on the other hand, really tired after virtually no sleep the night before. Just coffee required!

    There's actually even bigger two-storey ferry shop on Tallink's Megastar. We have a joke in Estonia that shopping is the national sport of Estonians 😄

      @LetsMakeaTrip  2 роки тому

      Hi Carl-Erik, thanks for the comment! I did think about a trip on the Megastar but the times weren’t quite right I seem to remember. It did look a rather large ship so that two-storey shop doesn’t surprise me! Cheers 😊👍

      @@LetsMakeaTrip Terminal C was used for Tallink's catamaran ferry service. When Tallink scrapped the service, they gave up the terminal too that was then converted into a shopping area.

  • @RodneyEnt
    @RodneyEnt 2 роки тому +1

    Terminal-C was for fast hydroplane-type boats that for some time operated between Tallinn and Helsinki. They did the trip in 1,5 hours and could be used only with calm seas. Now, since 2010 i think, there is a market in terminal-C.

      Cheers for the info. Steve Marsh did an interesting video on this area (amongst others) a couple of weeks back. Lots of places I never managed to get to unfortunately. And that’s the problem with those types of boats I guess. I remember being stranded on Mykonos one year as the ‘flying dolphins’ couldn’t run!

    • @RodneyEnt
      @RodneyEnt 2 роки тому +1

      Thank you! I went and watched both of Steve's videos about Estonia. Paldiski is a sad little town. There used to be a soviet submarine harbour and training facility. Soviet times this area was off limits for locals, so after collapse only ethnic russians lived there. To this day Paldiski looks a bit rough.
      Now, if it happens that in one good day you will return to this beautiful country, i suggest to check out the islands. Saaremaa particularly. it takes about 4 hours via couch, incl. a half an hour with a ferry. In kuressaare, the only town in Saaremaa, there is the best preserved convent-house type of castle ib all baltics. In there is a very interestin museum, that could take a whole day itself to look through, but one will get tired and leaves some "for the next time".

    What happened to the coach week uploads?

    • @LetsMakeaTrip
      @LetsMakeaTrip  2 роки тому

      Hi CC, thanks for the question. As I normally do Friday uploads, the Lux Express trip was the one for ‘bus week’ and I also took a trip on Flixbus that day too. Unfortunately as I work full time during the week I don’t really have time to film then upload with such a short turnaround but it will be published at some point. Things have been somewhat delayed the last couple of weeks too as I’ve been hospitalised but rest assured, I will endeavour to get things back to normal ASAP. It’s been a bit hectic last few weeks tbh. Hope that helps explain though. Best wishes, Mark
