A skilled speaker. Simultaneous humor and erudition: a difficult task performed with the ease of a new bird taking its first flight.

Marvelously intelligent man who cared deeply on his research into the mind of those locked into their own headspace. RIP

Sacks was a brilliant doctor and observer of neurological conditions, and an important writer on those subjects. As such it's rather surprising that he was not a better speaker but seemingly a very nervous and somewhat disorganized speaker. His breathyness and constant uhs and ums are so frustrating and distracting that it's hard to hang with him.

Only Dr. Sacks could say he preferred banana slugs to people and get away with it.🙂

Okay not for nothing but does anyone else have a very strange wondering about what the hell is going on with that plant over to his right in the video starting right from the very beginning it doesn't seem like there is like a fan blowing on it but that it is kind of responding as he speaks I'm losing my shit or what?

The lack of flow when speaking is quite exhausting.

He had anxiety when public speaking and also struggled with visual and auditory hallucinations. But also great speakers and intellectuals tend to be messy and all over the place when they speak like Sir Ken Robinson or Niel DeGrasse Tyson.

It makes me sad to see such a comment. I wish you the wisdom and patience to appreciate the brilliant and charming insights that do flow from him!
