My niece and nephew saw this table and asked me to build for them. I purchased your plans and, now I need to get started. Thanks for the video and detailed plans.
Sometimes I come here just so I can relax, enjoy the ingenuity and skill, and leave a little wiser. One of the best sites ever. Thanks, April.
Nice work. I like the easy clean off feature, tilt the top and dump.
Great to see a woman doing woodwork in youtube video, something I rarely
see. My mom taught me how to build things from wood when I was a child and it's
been something I've loved to do my whole life, and is very useful. Good for you, and
thanks for the effort in making a well explained tutorial. Good luck in your
endeavors.
: ) Thank you, that's awesome to hear that your mom taught you woodworking!
That turned out beautiful April. I love how the top works. No smashed fingers. Thumbs up!
I like those hinges, I'm a new Grandpa so those will be great for a toy chest!!! Great video!!!
I'm kind of beginner and follow your channel for several months now, and really like what you do. Also love this little plus "deco design" you add to your project. Thank you for all the ideas and stick with it!
Absolutely Beautiful! Nice to see another woman interested and knowledgeable (so much more than myself) in working and building things out of wood. Very nice job keep up the good work and thanks so much for sharing!
Lets see, how about "Very Nice" ? It is as always a looked liked fun build, your smiling shows it was. Thanks for another superb piece from the "W" shop !!
I think that was one of the best audible ad integrations I've seen. Loved the project too.
I love Patrick Rothfuss!!
+Derek Jackson Yeah, he does take a very long time to write. Luckily, I started reading his stuff after he had already written two books so I didn't have to wait.
+Peter Gillock The Name of the Wind is probably the best book I've ever read.
Love Patrick Rothfuss, particularly his first book. Gorgeous table/chest!
I do dance portraits and when I shoot at competitions I bring my own 8'x8' stage to put under my backdrop
I was looking for some way to transport them.
I was inspired by this project and like the way you did pocket holes and covered them from outside.
I am SO happy with my finished box.
I left mine unstained and now knobs so it looks more like a shipping crest but in my case that's what it basically is
So so happy with the way it turned out!
Thanks for all the great videos you post. I look forward every week to seeing your newest project
I still think a big round ball as a foot would make it look more like a coffee table and allow toe kick room. Excellent work!
April I must say that I live your videos. I am very new to woodworking and your step by step instructions make my goals seem obtainable. Thank you and keep up the awesome content.
Nice job! IMO, the only thing I would have added would be Cedar Lining -- bottom, sides and lid -- to keep my blankets moth-free and add a pleasant aroma around the box itself.
But -- that's just me...!
Dear April, my wife and I, just watched you make that beautiful coffee table great job, waiting for your next video. God Bless
Good job. I think it actually would look better with legs on it though.
+Joe Smith I'm with you. I think a nice set of bun feet would go nicely on this design.
It would be a quick addition if you end up building one. +Mark yeah bun feet would probably look nice....I actually was planning on matching the feet to the entertainment center you see behind the chest in the opening shot. You can't see the feet but they are square and have about a 3/4" gap between them and the unit.
April Wilkerson Oh, there you go! I didn't catch that. That would look great. I tend to lift chests like that up off the floor only because I know my luck - I'll kick the bottom edge of that puppy every time I go near it barefooted. With feet on it, I've eliminated most of the "break-a-toe" hazard and only have to concern myself with the corners. Of course your mileage (and toes) may vary, so...
I just found your site. I love this. I am into making anything myself. You have inspired my inner wood spirit.
Nice shirt 😉 Germany
:) Haha how funny, you know me so well now Troy you can answer comments for me. I appreciate that!
Lynn, there is actually a direct link in the description of the video to the plans if you are interested. : )
Man, that is the coolest! A video with the great instructions. Add a plastic liner and your ready for NASCAR or NFL beverages. Seriously...the blanket storage idea is the ONLY way to go. Your skills are improving and it shows in your videos.
Hmm. Not my idea of a "coffee" table...but, a nice storage box.
I'm from miles and miles away and I'm learning DIY project from your vids. great and awesome job. keep it up.
This coffee table is excellent and I as really impressed with the trim design. You nailed April, great job.
Fantastic! Natural talent and a natural teacher. Thank you!
Very nice. I like how you took a relatively simple box and "fancied it up" to make something much more elegant.
April, not only are you great at wood-working, but you also have excellent taste in books :-) I found Rothfuss years ago and love him.
Very nice, April. I bet some ultra-thin sheets of cedar (if there is such a thing) tacked/glued in to completely cover the bottom and sides (inside) would really make it stand out. Imagine opening the lid and seeing/smelling that! And your enjoyment of making the trim shows that you have crossed over from 'maker' to 'craftsman', in my opinion.
Turned out great!
Thanks for the heads up on those hinges!
Been thinking of building a toy box for my grandson and was worried about pinched or smashed fingers.
Thank you so much!
For starters, I would rather watch you do this and go off of your tips than Ana White any day. After viewing her show on HGTV, my wife and I quickly realized she is a fake and her husband does all of her designs and work. No way could someone be that scared of actual work and still "create" all of those designs. That being said, I really appreciate the videos you produce and how well it's put together. I am sure it's no mistake that I can do all of your designs myself. Congrats on all the sponsorship. It is well deserved. Thank you.
That's a style we've been thinking of for our own house. I'd store blankets in there in case anyone wanted to grab one on a cold winter's day while watching a movie. Nicely done!
Exactly! Same here, I love to keep plenty of throw blankets on hand but hate them being scattered. I'm glad you liked it.
I love that series by Patrick Rothfuss! Impatiently waiting on the next book.
I like to see your videos because besides your wonderful work you seem to be happy with what you work and it is always good to see this happiness in people. Congratulations! a hug!
Great project. I saw the drawers on the front and immediately knew they were false drawers with your aversion to them. Keep up the great work.
there is nothing better to se a women who can use her tools the right way, ore can use tools period.
Totally nice table u made there, and I love that u took u'r time to make the moldings u'r self.
Patrick Rothfuss is awesome. Wish he was a more prolific writer, but the fully grab you.... excellent projects April, thank you.
Nice end product. The woodworking skills are absolutely great.
Love the audio books while working idea. I like the hinges. Good design.
If you need any small toe/kick space, recess a base around the perimeter. However, it looks great the way it is.
I did a similar one in 1967 made from left over 3/4" hardwood flooring, a little more labor intensive. You worked smarter not harder. Thanks for a great video!!!!!!!!
....13
Thanks 13, I'm going to leave it be for a little bit and see how it does. I really like the way it looks without feet but if we kick it then I'll certainly add feet. : )
You make it look so simple, looks really nice... and expensive. I'm actually gonna try make this myself. Excellent work April 👍
Between buying the wood, knobs, stain, and hinges it came out right under $200, so a little pricy but it's still cheaper than if I bought it from a store! : ) Have fun making one.
April,
Liked the video. I especially liked the way you did the pocket holes on the outside and covered them with trim.
As a side note, loved the dungaree jacket. In the 70s when I went to high school, everbody wore them, guys and gals alike.
: ) Thank you, the jacket was my dads favorite jacket in the 70s and 80s. He gave it to me so I would have something of his in my shop, so it's pretty special to me.
Awesome project. It turned out great April. I really like the hinges that keep the lid from smashing fingers. Thanks for sharing!
Great job April. Neat idea to use the multi-stand. I wouldn't have thought of that.
You seamlessly integrated an ad during your DIY video. LOL that was epic. Nice work!
Hello from Panama I love how well you work and how easy you make it look. Thanks and regards. And excuse my bad English
Looks great!
Also, great choice with the Kingkiller Chronicles - one of my absolute favorite book series.
Very Nice look and job. I keep an eye out for your projects weekly! I once took an old steam liner shipping box and put brass edges on the box and brass corners on the lid, then lined the lid and inside walls with tongue and groove cedar and made it into a blanket box. Just a thought. Keep up the great work
Super nice. I love that you can customize the way you want to make it your own.
:) That's the biggest advantage of making stuff, being able to make it exactly the way you want it.
Love the looks of this. Simple yet practical. Thanks to you I make all my own trim now. Much cheaper that way. Love the videos, keep it up.
It's the only way to go, I can't believe I used to pay for trim! It's so much cheaper to make your own plus it's fun!! :)
Great project April,An easy project that's quick to make. I love the ease of using pocket screws for my projects. Love the ease of following your videos and access to plans. Keep doing what you do well. Thanks, Mike
Great Job April...and high quality product you've achieved
I LOVE THAT BOOK SERIES. Also - I love all your videos even though I don't think I'll ever actually make anything (too many hobbies as it is) but I think you're inspiring and I love watching what you make.
That's awesome to hear. : ) Even if you aren't into building stuff, I'm glad you enjoy the videos.
Can always see how much you enjoy your projects! Great stuff April!
Excellent job, I am impressed with your router skills. I have a router but it is my last choice for a job but you have inspired me to try a few more moves with it. Thanks.
Great little project. Nice to see a fence on the router table. Safety is improving!
; ) Haha yeah I learned the last time I used only the pin that it wasn't safe. I listen and pick up a lot of tips from comments left on my videos!
Another in a series of very nice projects, April! And I love and appreciate the effort that you put into your videos and blog. I'm especially impressed that you tackle such non-trivial projects, with comfort and ease! In regards to breaking down sheets of plywood, I always do it on the floor over foam insulation board with my track saw! Can't imagine how you do the same on the table saw... Heaving-lifting kudos to you!
That's a nice looking box I like the idea of having a place to put blankets and have a double as a coffee table
Wow, you need to have your own show on one of the DIY channels. Definitely not a fake. Good job.
I built a cooler surround behind a outdoor bar several years ago and used those same hinges, they offer them in stainless so I didn't have to worry about rust ruining the finish. great job on the chest
Good idea for using them on a cooler! I can't stand having to hold the lid while digging around trying to grab a cold beer from the bottom. ; )
April...You are cheerful and better get your message ...I really like your coffee table...congratulations....
Very nice project! I really like the front layout. It gave me a good idea for a tv stand I've been wanting to build
nifty table, Plus Rothfuss is a great recommendation. He needs to get book 3 out already!
Beautiful table. Thanks for such clear instructions. You make it look easy.
I love this. if I can ever afford to replace some tools I lost, this is one of the first things I want to make for my living room.
Beautiful!
Turned out great! Looks like you'll get a lot of use out of it.
a very nice coffee table, April.... I enjoy your videos and your woodworking skills ! Well done indeed !
Looks great... and looks big enough to fit you! I love those Rockler hinges too!
Really awesome design, lots of great details. Love with the trim accents (and especially that you made the trim from scratch)!
Nice project! Sanding sealer will help even out the stain. Its an extra step, but worth it.
Nice Job April. Great explanations. Hinges are great used them on a toy box for my kids.
You're awesome at what you do April, keep on doing it!
April great project, can't wait for the weather to here so I can get cooking. After the French cleat project this storage box will be next for my wife. Thx.
Great project April as always, I like the way you "hid" the pocket holes.
nice April!-i built one of those a few months back for a relative house warming gift..i like making my own trim also and the edge banding issue i had too..haha!🙃 i live the way the front looks with the knobs..good stuff
I must say I'm pretty impressed. The design and implementation are excellent. Nice choice on the hinges too. I didn't know such hinges existed. I like how the trim on the drawer faces fit so perfectly well. I would have been tempted to not attach them permanently. I would keep getting a kick pulling them out then fitting them back in.
If I would be nit picky then the finish is too dark for my taste. But that's a taste thing. And I would have liked to see it with feet. Now It looks more like a box than a table.
Have to say, I am a fan of your channel. I think a few of the other channels really roped me into wanting to get into woodworking (Samurai Carpenter, Dustin Penner, Matthias Wandel, etc), but the problem is if any random novice like me tries to mimic them, we just get frustrated at how little we really know. Your designs are a lot more practical, and within reach for the average person trying to get into wood working. Allows us to build the skills necessary to take it to the next level, but still build some nice pieces along the way! (That wasn't meant to sound like a jab saying your stuff is lower quality than theirs, moreso that your stuff seems targeted at the DIY'er as opposed to a properly trained woodworking artisans.)
Great finished product. It looks amazing. Thanks for sharing.
April all your work is. excelent .You are very talented.seen most of you vids. Great job.
Just discovered your channel, became a fan very quickly love all your work. I am building my shop piece by piece as I go now but its great to watch other and see how they do things. Love your channel.
: ) awesome, glad you found my channel and enjoy the videos. Enjoy setting up shop!
Really clean design and so function all; job well done.
I'm flabbergasted at your skills with wood working in all phases. This project? WOW !! Really nice. April: Good luck in your future endeavors.... Angelo.
I don't know who is clicking the dislike button on your videos but they are obviously jealous. Keep up the great work April, always a pleasure to watch you create and build projects 👍
Awesome! It's just intimidating seeing you using all those saws and tools but I love it. I would love if I could make any piece such as this anytime soon. Thanks for sharing
It's not too bad once you get one or two under your belt. If the tools are intimidating to you, check with a local tool shop or lowes, Home Depot, etc. they sometimes have little build classes that can get you familiar with the tools and materials and you can make something to be proud of. It really is a great hobby and a lot of fun. Good luck! :)
Nice simple box with April's touch to it.....great...
This girl is good at buiting. I am amazed. Keep up the good work.
April you always do great work.
This is gorgeous!!! I love the color of the stain too, I'm really into the dark wood lately. You always amaze me & I learn something new each time. thank you.🙌
You're so welcome! I get so excited when a new video comes out of yours. It makes my day.😁
I am so impressed with your skills. I hate it that at almost 50 I am just deciding to actually know how to do stuff lol. Lots to learn, I will be keeping my brain very busy in my old age lol. Great job chicka. Janice
: ) Thank you Janice. Enjoy getting into your new hobby and don't be bummed at all with just starting. You still have plenty of time to enjoy yourself and learn.
Lovely coffee table April... and I too have an Audible account... ha ha! - keep up the work - its great watching other carpenters work
Very nice project! You do some great work April!
great project, april! those hinges are very cool...love that you made you own moldings!
I think I'm starting to start an obsession with router bits! I went looking for trim bits and wanted to buy them all. : ) I settled for four but I can see this getting out of hand real quick.
+April Wilkerson haha, one of these rabbitholes huh? great cologne shirt by the way!
