I am a painfully isolating alcoholic... I have recently relapsed after 4 months clean and have been on the "ride" for a little over a month.. half a handle of vodka everyday till blackouts everynight.. I am on day 3 clean and am experiencing audible hallucinations and extreme insomnia/anxiety. Pure hell and think I'm going insane.. I know it will pass and I'm not insane but it's just scary.. please pray for me friends, thanks for reading. God bless

I've been an addict for the better part of 15 years. It's taken everything from me. Family, friends, houses, cars, money and health. I'm early on in my journey of recovery. It's painful dealing with the emotional rollercoaster of my mind trying to heal, while simultaneously trying to put the pieces of a broken life back together. I'm sure many can relate. Wishing anyone reading this peace and prosperity.

One of the great things about AA is when you cross over the threshold your just another Alcoholic. I remember meeting a Famous Person and meeting Him at His first meeting. @@6StormShadow For sure. Yeah I have had some really bad mental and depression issues when I have come off of opiates or other things like that, even alcohol. I've lost my apartment residence, jobs and spent time in psych wards because of the mental state I have been stuck in after getting clean. I now go to meetings, have a sponsor and most important pray and work on myself to avoid going back. I'm 45 days sober today so obviously my struggles have been recent and been a chronic relapser. I live in Minnesota. Have a great day.

    Eric is a wonderful musician.
    In AA there are NO
"Celebrities" only alcoholics who are trying to recover from alcoholism
O D A A T. AA is about Destroying the EGO that tells you
    "you're not alcoholic"
Please remember that many of us attending AA are at different stages of understanding and experiences on the Road to recovery. We have the newcomers, the intermediates and the
"Old timers" like myself. We know that length of sobriety doesn't make living any easier but, sobriety gives us the ability to see things more clearly and "As they really are" and if things get to be too much for us, we have friends and family who are willing to help us if we tell them the truth about our problems whether they be financial or otherwise. Remember, there are "NO CELEBRITIES IN AA"
only folks trying their very Best to recover from a life threatening illness ONE DAY AT A TIME ! God bless you ALL👍👍👍👍👍

Amazingly, and thankfully I'm coming up on 20yrs, because it took me almost a decade to legitimately get 1yr., but that's another whole story. I'm AA but I attended a small men's NA meeting with a addict friend in the late 90s "The Valley" (San Fernando,Calif). It was it an informal setting of a half circle of 12-15 guys in a side room of a Church on a weekday in the early afternoon. We went down the line trading shares. It got around to a regular looking guy maybe a decade or so older than me with a crew cut, short wrap beard, wire rimmed glasses turn. I guess I'd been there about 45min, I didn't notice anything special until in a British accent he identified as Eric, an addict. Totally blew my mind! He was humble, down to earth, thankful & friendly.

I got clean it 2011. I was a mess in every way.
I tripped and fell, broke my shoulder. During physiotherapy sessions, I thought codeine would kill the physical pain I was feeling due to movement I had to do during the sessions.
I started taking them only after my sessions, then before my sessions, then the day after, then every day.
Before I knew it, I was using again, and I knew it. I didn't want to go through all the rough detoxes I had experienced years earlier.
That was in 2017, I write this in 2022, and I am still using. Listening to Eric was the first meeting I have been to in years. Thanks for publishing it. It was/is greatly helpful to me. Thank you. Shane O. Ireland 🇮🇪

Thanks for sharing, brother. Your story is so important for so many of us because it reminds us that ever those who are incredibly successful in other aspects of their lives can be powerless to the point of ultimate disaster. That you found victory over our common disease is an incredible reminder that this program really works!
Your right. We who find relief from our alcoholism are blessed. We are here and so many others aren’t. It’s the reason we are continually asked by the program to share our gift with others. The great mystery in our lives is that the act of giving our sobriety away insures that we keep it, that it becomes stronger and brighter in our lives.

I had 24 years and had a relapse on pain meds for a week. So, back to almost 6 months. But it doesn’t matter. 1 day, 1 year, 100 years. It’s not the amount of clean time. It’s what you do with clean time you have. And if I’m doing the right things today, the right things will keep happening. Always remembering to give it back. I’ve always said that there’s no seniority in the rooms. There’s no such thing as after a certain amount of time, I can stop doing those things that got me clean. God bless you all.

I met Eric Clapton at the airport in London on our way to Iceland in 2003. He was so humble and healthy looking...it surprised me because I knew he had been a heroin addict. I had no idea he was in recovery...(I have been since 1987). I am a pilot on Gulfstream aircraft and we learned to talk to famous people like they are just ONE OF US...normal....whatever the fuck that is...but I wish I had known then he was in recovery because we would have shared a lot more. I have tremendous respect for him...and I also struggled with suicide....and I definitely identified with his story....Slowhand or not.

Early sobriety... in the 80's - trying to figure it out - fighting with myself over what my higher power was, what it could be. What I grew up with - definitely a non-starter for me.
I was happy to be sober but also suffering mentally, emotionally and spiritually as it became more and more apparent alcohol and drugs were just symptoms of my alcoholism. My thinking. And i just couldn't get the higher power thing.
Mired in depression as bad as I'd ever been in at about 3 years I stumbled on Eric Clapton's August album. Of course I'd listened to a lot of his stuff before that but that album just hit me. Every song just spoke to me, emotionally, both the music and the lyrics.
It took me only a short while to realize that I might not know exactly what my higher power was or could be but whatever it was, listening to this album put me in touch with it. I would jokingly share at the time that I had found my higher power, it's Eric Clapton's August album, yeah I know, that's crazy, but it works for me. Whenever I need a boost or need connection I could find it in the songs on that LP.
Of course a lot of Clapton fans would look at me and say, "August?" That's the album that's your higher power? Not Slowhand? Not 451 Ocean Blvd? Not whatever? Nope, August.... Great Higher Power. I got sober in 1986 and I didn't even know he was already sober or in AA until I stumbled on this here in 2022 while listening to some Road To Escondido, him and JJ Cale. Pretty cool... Great to hear some of his story. Thanks.

Ex hippie, "head" and recovering alcoholic here. I've enjoyed Eric's music through the years with Cream and the other bands I can't remember the names of now in which he was in. He was in a solo act for a while, right? I had the album "###? Ocean Boulevard", the one with the picture of a tile-roofed Florida villa with a coconut palm next to it.
He is a legend if there ever was one. I was saddened by the ex-bassist, Jack Bruce from Cream that recently passed. I guess their former drummer Ginger Baker is still kicking. I haven't heard from him for a while.

      Sober James
      Hi James,
I had a problem with alcohol.
And never really even realised owned up to it.
In the end other things brought me to my knees and I lost interest in everything.
Now that I'm sort of coming back to life and finding interest in things in life, interest in alcohol is returning also.
Is this a good time to go to AA ?
Could feel strange as not drinking much these days.
      Thanks for your help.

    • @SoberJames
      @SoberJames  4 роки тому +4

There's only two times we recovering alcoholics should go to a meeting: when we want to, and when we don't want to. Just putting down the bottle fixes a HUGE problem, and congrats! However, going to AA meetings fills in the rest of the blanks. Fellowship, emotional sobriety, anger, loneliness...AA teaches us how to live without alcohol. It can also be fun!
