People rarely understand this story. Poetry professor Daniele endures decades of deep suffering/pain from the suicide of his childhood love. He purges his despair with a book of 50 poems written in her memory. Twenty some years later as a gifted professor still adrift in his sadness, he senses the same in his student Vanina. Not being able to bear it, he seeks out and uncovers the source: sexual abuse by many men as a child and at the consent of her mother. Nothing else matters to Daniele except to unlock Vanina's shell, save and protect her from further harm. In doing so, he falls hard himself, whereupon he emotionally and physically displays the only real love she'd ever known. Vanina's tearful response shows she is moved by Daniele's sensitivity and ability to reach into her soul. His desire is to be with her but before the two can steal away together, Daniele wisely places Vanina on a train to see her sister and temporarily escape an angry, degenerate boyfriend. Having gathered his belongings, Daniele then races back to finally console his cynical wife of 10 years who cruelly threatened suicide if he leaves. The inevitable happens on the way: Daniele dies alone in a fiery crash. (I will never recover from this movie.)

Oh, I love that you combined that movie with Lana's music. I'm a big fan of hers and I have seen this film AGES ago (before I ever listened to Lana) in Italian despite not speaking any Italian lol, but I was so mesmerised by the story and the lead actors - Alain Delon is always magnetic and Sonia Petrovna is so incredibly beautiful. I looked it up again now in order to find a copy with English subtitles and thought it would fit so well with Lana's music and voilà - here it is. :)

В этом фильме он безразличный ко всему, и вдруг, так полюбил красивую девочку из не благополучной семьи, а она молода очень и все сложно и перед женой, какой то долг, придуманный им, и вот первая ночь покоя- смерть. Надо пересмотреть, помню ревела. А здесь он очень красивый и отрешенный.
В паре с Соней смотрятся потрясающе!
