    5:39 (end trigger) - So you can stay in "Stand by" for as long as you want and wait until the action actually happens so you capture the best moment? Can you stay in the "stand by" screen for as long as you want and it will automatically record (to the memory card) 4 seconds in the past?
    For example: I want to record lightning in a storm, but I (obviously) don't know when the lightning will strike. Would I be able leave the camera in "stand by" until it happens and then click on "record" so that I get the best part?

    • @Jason_Hermann

      Yes, that is exactly how End Trigger works!! Try it out first to see for yourself and get the hang of it before the actual lightning action ;)

    I think your description of start and end trigger is correct. If the total capture length is say 4 sec, then with half trigger, the captured video will start 2 sec before the trigger (in this case, when you pushed the movie button).

    Hello!
    Thanks for the tutorial it was very useful for me. I have set up the back focus button which I use on my Nikon camera.
    I am wondering, when using the rear focus button, how can I set the focus release priority?
    Specifically, I would like to have the release only occur when the camera has found focus when using the back focus button.

    Hi, great video! I often use the HFR mode for videos of butterflies or birds at full zoom (usually when they take off). It is a real shame as the subject often becomes out of focus during the movie. This is because the subject does not move in the same plane, but moves a little bit forward or backward and becomes blurry. Simply put, continuous focus stops working as soon as recording starts. Thanks!

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  2 роки тому +2

      Yes that is correct. HFR mode does not track focus and you are limited to the one plane for each recording.

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  4 роки тому

      @@derekskoyles9411 I think you will be totally fine. The camera will warn you it is getting hot and then shut off worst case, so don't worry about it getting damaged. I really don't think it will be an issue. I was buffering on the much smaller RX100 series camera for several minutes and that camera did not overheat from the buffering. The RX10 IV takes way longer to get hot compared the pocketable rx100 series...

    Hi Jay.. got this GREAT camera about a week ago and am thrilled with its capabilities. However, I have scoured UA-cam to see if I can find an answer to this one question about HFR and came up empty. I was out in my back yard and was trying to do a 240 HFR of leaves falling. I can focus on a falling leaf but as it is falling, the camera will not auto focus to keep the leaf sharp as it is falling 50' while I am standing under it. I have clear sky and only the leaf falling in the frame. Any special settings to keep the leaf in focus as it is falling at 240 HFR?

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  5 років тому

      Hello, In HFR Mode the auto focus does not track the subject. The focus stays where you had it when the video starts recording as far as I am aware and based on my testing. The only way to track a subject like that during video is to use the regular video recording modes... Even then, tracking a falling leaf would be pretty difficult for the camera I'm thinking do to the small size relative to the scene. It should be able to do it though...

    What about shooting video on wildlife, like birds that may need recording for over one minute in flight. If it's only 4 sec with 240fps, how should I record?

  • @PersonaGrip
    @PersonaGrip 3 роки тому +1

    Jay, you mentioned the Rear Trigger Half records 1/2 the time...so, 2 seconds if the previous total was 4 sec. Do you think that maybe they were trying to suggest that HALF the buffer was before the triggering, and the remainder is recorded AFTER the trigger...so, half and half? (before and after trigger?) Love your videos...they're awesome!

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  3 роки тому +1

      Once the camera is in buffering mode it's basically recording. The triggers influence when the data that is being buffered will be collected in reference to the shutter press. Yes End Trigger Half will result in half the time recording total time which in your case is about 2 seconds based on the use manual. I honestly forgot that End Trigger Half only recorded half the time, I thought it split the difference before and after the shutter press, but still recorded about the same time. Sorry about that ;) Jay

  • @bjrnclausen978

    Using end trigger it seems that it is very slow to empty buffer to memory card. Is time duration for emptying buffer the same as playback time?

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  3 роки тому

      It appears to be about the same, but also depends on the write speed of the memory card.

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  3 роки тому +1

      The camera will automatically set it to the same frame rate that you are shooting at, but yes you can make it faster if you want and have good enough light. If the light is not great, then the ISO will go up in order to give you a faster shutter speed.

      Your camera is a PAL default set camera which means the frame rates are for the "European Standard" You need to change it to the North American Standard which is NTSC: MENU → (Setup) → [NTSC/PAL Selector] → [Enter]

    Hi thanks for the great video about HFR modes, answered a lot of questions. I read the manual for the mk4 but could not really tell if the camera has any way to slow playback even more (not record slower, just play slower). I'd also like to advance the frames one at a time and maybe back and forth a few frames to find something in the recording. I wonder if you have seen any kind of functions like these.

      120p is not high frame rate mode. You can slow 120p down in post processing software to turn it into slow-motion, but it will playback at normal speed on the camera. HFR is 240, 480, or 960 frames per second and will play back in slow-mo on the camera.
