I dont understand the story people heard about Mugabe. Being an eloquent speaker doesnt make him a celebrated leader. What did he do to his people, his nation? I dont see much that he should be given such regards. He was a tyrannical leader, not a messiah

@?? You are now heavily contradicting yourself in thought. In your first message, you added an poverty and economic collapse as addendum to land as legacies of Mugabe. Now you are saying land was not left. This is your first contradiction in thought. Your second contradiction is that you say we don't have land but you quickly added to say the land is with the elite and "we are suppressed by our own people". All I can say is, whether land is by the elite or not, at least it is in the hands of blacks. Mugabe had his weaknesses but we must appreciate him for preserving land. It is better to be poor but with land than having no land and be called rich.

President Mugabe only turned into a tyrant when British failed to comply with a pre-agreed agreement to return the land that had taken over by white invaders. As long as he never took back the land, they showered him with praise, even knighted by the queen. Then sanctions came from USA and her European allies, even when Mugabe left power sanctions were kept. So whose the tyrant? Rest in peace Mr President 🇨🇩🇿🇼🇨🇩🇿🇼
Land reform in Zimbabwe. Land reform in Zimbabwe officially began in 1980 with the signing of the Lancaster House Agreement, as an effort to more equitably distribute land between black subsistence farmers and white Zimbabweans of European ancestry, who had traditionally enjoyed superior political and economic status.

Ndabaningi Sithole & Joshua Nkomo were the two men who spearheaded black nationalism in Rhodesia in the 60's. Bob Mugabe came on the scene in the 70's & climbed on the political nationalist bandwagon. Many people hadn't heard of him before the 1980 Independence Rhodesia/Zimbabwe elections. Bishop Muzorewa was expected to win those elections & probably did win had there not been intense intimidation and possibly vote rigging by those British involved in the final shuffle. The ballet papers were spirited away and apparently dumped in the ocean.

When Mugabe died he left an impoverished nation. Many people emigrate to the colonialist's land, Great Britain.(the Britain Mugabe hated). They were using the American Dollar, and a toilet roll was more valuable than a bank roll of their currency. People suffered in poverty eating bush rats, in a land considered the food basket of Africa. While he and his wife shopped expensive goods in London and other places. Yet many people of Zimbabwe love him because they saw him as this great liberator from the oppressive colonialists, very common in many countries throughout Africa. To this day not much has improved the lives of millions. Still not free from poverty and blaming their plight on colonialism, that's history.

Coming from a Zimbabwean. Most Zimbabweans will always remember Mugabe as a brutal tyrant and oppressor who murdered thousands during his life. A man who along with his party, zanu pf destroyed his own country's economy and silenced any opposition. Sadly he had much potential in the beginning. Why did he snap and turn evil?? No, he is not remembered with fondness here. Forgiveness will come as it must and Zimbabwe will regain her mighty glory. But Mugabe was no Mandela.

Agreed, Mugabe only gave in to the land issue coz the war veterans were already moving on it. Mugabe sold out and betrayed JM Nkomo who wanted people to get land just after the liberation struggle. On Mandela the whites just like how they pulled Mugabe to their side to protect the whites that remained in the country, Mandela also got used to muffle a total wipe out of colonial rule. Whites just gave these dudes power to rule over black people while they loot some more, Another example ML King was also played, however when you start getting out of line you are punished, in Zim case sanctions, MLK assassination. In my view JM Nkomo, Nkwame Nkruma, Malcom X, J Tongogara, and Samora Machel are real pan Africanists. Oh Mandela got married to Samora's widow, when did the relationship start? People of Zim grabbed the land and we are suffering for it and i believe we will until we suffer some more, the white man knows how to punish, also helped by our own incompetence and greed they will succeed for decades to come.
