I think that you need to put a fence around it without mulch, to let it air and then an second and maybe even a third fence with mulch , leave a lot of airspace between the layers….I think….😆….gonna try that upcoming winter.🌱
Thanks for the comment! Indeed ventilation is a big issue for rotting. It is quite some work but the payoff is great for spring, summer and part of the fall. I would love to hear the results!
@@dickymiller7196 great question! Those are Trachycarpus Fortunei. They can stay outdoors up to -18°C without protection. These where not covered during the winter and i couldn't find any signs of stress on them. I also have some younger ones, about 1/3 the size of these, they where exposed to direct Northern wind. They lost the upcoming spear (new leaf) but fully recovered in the late summer. So for younger plants i recommend to provide frost protection starrting from -10°C so they can keep on groing. Hope it helps!
One winter I did nothing to the musa basjoo, left the leaves on as protection and it survived well. We had a mild winter with only a couple of - degrees Celsius. Did the same trick the next winter…😭😭😭😭 …my heart was broken and I had a basjoo funeral.
That is always the risk. Usually we have mild winters as wel, but just one night of harsh conditions and you will have to start from the bottom up again. Hope your plant managed to regrow a bit again.

I thought -15 C = 5 F and -5 F = -21 C
You are right, thanks for noticing my typo! I will adjust this to the correct value!
