I worked at Nordstrom for several years on and off. You did a great job explaining the commission vs returns
I’m looking into getting a job at Nordstrom and I felt much better to know that you worked in the Seattle location! (I live near Seattle and my mom works in downtown) This video helped a lot, loved how honest you were 💖
I am so glad this helped!!
Just got the job they called today! Im gonna be working in the shoes area. Thank you for making this video! 💕
Yay congrats 🎉
I’m I love the video!! I used to work at Nordstrom too, it was great for me and I learnt so much even outside of selling, like people skills and to be more extroverted! X
yes i agree!!
I really feel you! I was a barista and started to work in Bloomingdales, like I said I feel you!!!!!
Designer handbags is a 9% commission rate!
I just called in for an interview for Nordstrom. Hopefully ill get the job. This video was very helpful!
Katrina Lim did you get the job
Same thanks for the video it really did help
You sounds really lovely and nice.
I’m going there tomorrow for an interview and I’m terrified.
Hate interviews.
Would love to get the job and enjoy the discount because I’m always shopping there.
This video was very helpful ❤️ and you so beautiful 😍.
I'm gonna be working at Nordstrom Rack soon I'm so excited!
Thank you! I’m glad it helped, good luck at your new job! 💓
I had no idea Seattle was like this(I do imagine its challenging in kids wear though)!! I heard it was easy to make money up there (I'm down in Tacoma), so this is surprising! I also would love to work in the Seattle store someday and experience it for myself!
it really is department based and how well you are at selling! I loved the Seattle store and couldn't picture myself at another store so you should one day (:
ClassicChayce I’m really thinking of interning there next year!! I would LOVE to have a wider variety of items to sell for sure 😍
You're beautiful, smart, and down to earth. I really enjoyed your video and I live in Seattle and visit downtown location frequently.
Thank you!!
I have an in person interview tomorrow in the shoe department in seattle! Any tips on the interview?
I will never want to work on the sales floor! I will work in the back office
Great Video! Very informative!
Thank you!
I got a phone interview next week and I’m ready to nail those interview questions.
good luck!!
that's crazy i've been working the lingerie department for the last couple months but its been such a bad experience. im only here for the money which is really good at my location(LA). most days i also wish i was back at my old job making coffee and talking to people who didn't wish i didn't show up to work.
Same, Nordstrom was the only retail job I ever did and I’ve been back in Coffee ever since
I work at Nordstrom in lingerie in Florida and hourly is $13 but I’ve never made my hourly it’s always way more and I’m not even that great at selling but if you’re good you have so much potential. I love it so far. It is a competitive environment so you just have to be tough and not take shit from anyone like you said, not be scared to call people out if they are stealing your sales etc. When I first worked here I literally cried because I’m used to the restaurant industry where we are all a family and help each other out but here no one will do anything for you. Now that I’m used to it I love it and I didn’t come here to make friends anyways
I used to stop Nordstrom when I was a teen and I didnt know you guys get paid commission. I was looking for something and a lady came. She stepped away and another lady came. The first lady was like "I was helping you!" My mother came to intervene and that's when she explained to me that they get paid commission. So, I corrected my mistake and made sure she got the sale. 🤷🏽♀️
I love your hair!
Great,informative vlog!!!
Glad it helped!!
My brain is going to explode, this is so much lmao
I know, there’s a lot of information lol
Lol this is crazy because I have an interview same department @ the downtown Seattle location!
good luck!!
My friend works at a Nordstrom in the greater Seattle area, they have VERY low inventory!!! Especially in her department. How can you sell what you don’t have? Yes, she always offers to help customers locate what they need online, but most people are looking for something at that moment to buy. In addition, they are REALLY pressuring the associates to make so many “connections” a day. This is getting an individual to sign up to use their online app, or services. She can put together “style boards” for customers and send them to them. The biggest problem with that is that most people are reluctant to give out their personal information, and there is just not enough foot traffic to even get many “connections”. She has good days (mostly during the holidays), but now that they are over, she is basically working for 15.00 an hour. I believe the hiring wage at McDonalds is better than that. Nordstrom needs to pick up their game a bit. Last point I would make is location, location, location! An employee at Bellevue Square will have a much better chance at hitting their commission goals than an employee at Tacoma Mall. The larger stores carry bigger inventory and brands that are not carried at the smaller stores. Yet the pay seems to be the same.
This video was very helpful ! I survived the phone interview today with them for retail sales men’s apparel Towson Maryland location . I’ve never worked commission sales before but I am
Super passionate about fashion and I feel up to it but of course I still have some doubt. Also what is there tatto policy if anybody knows??
Traeonte Watson I don’t remember about tattoos but piercings are ok! Good luck!
Tattoos are okay just nothing offensive, I work with plenty of people at Nordstrom who have tattoos, mostly arm tattoos and they don't get any issues.
So I’m 17 and I wanna work as a cashier but I have no work experience is it a good place for my first job
Could you use cash to use your discount? Very informative video!
I'm working in kids department rn and I'm quiting soon! The customers are great but the management is not it!
I worked for Nordstrom 2 years. Made life long friends and loved it, but I am not good at sales so it wasn’t for me.
how is the dress code ?
I work at Nordstrom, I’ve been there for 5 months, I like it a lot, easy job and it’s a great pay, I work service experience and I like it, I get to solve all the store problems
Good!! I’m glad you like it :)
Ignacio Araujo any requirements or experimenting to work service experience, Ignacio?
Hi I just got hired at the local Nordstrom’s only for seasonal sales. I am nervous because I am set to work at the men’s wear dept. I won’t do this job permanently. Thankyou for sharing your pros and cons of your time working at your Nordstrom’s. I am a regular customer I hope I pass the commission based sales. I will do my best. I am not too young a little over 50. Goodluck to you 👍
Hi, I also just got hired for seasonal sales at Nordstrom in the men’s department. What has been your experience? I’m really nervous.
so if you shop for yourself in shoes department, that doesn't count as your sales... I will be working in accessories, not sure how that goes tho...good thing is I live 20 mins away! excited :)
I love your braids 💕💕
thank you so much 💜
Ugh. Returns. It was so annoying, year after year you'd see people walking in the door with Anniversary bags during holiday to dump off their summer returns to buy for the holidays, and then during Anniversary you'd see holiday bags coming into the store to dump off their holiday returns to make room on their credit cards to shop Anniversary. It was a vicious cycle. So glad to not have to deal with any of that any more.
same lol
Collectors clothing gets 9% and so does luxury/designer handbags. Not 3%. But it still kind of evens out because the returns are much more brutal.
I applied for stocking at Nordstrom what do you as stocking in Nordstrom?
I’m loss prevention at Nordstrom and I love it
Yay!
You’re a sweetheart and very smart young lady. You’ll do well with a anything you do.
thank you 🩷
I love your braids 💕
thank you 💓
Do you get the disvounts on Chanel purses during the ployee discounts?
yep! :)
Sis, you were there for like 10 mins 🤣
I worked for Nordstrom in Seattle too, Stores 3 & 5 :)
Hi Sharon,Im also looking for a sale position in Nordstrom Seattle. Could I ask you about some steps to apply in there?
@@khllee11 I applied via careers.nordstrom.com
I worked stock & support, not sales like Chayce is talking about.
“You make what you sell”
👏
Can some quit before “Returns” seasons? Making it so a hire who worked the year end holiday season and keeping all that commission.
yeah i think so, i mean in the sense of you can quit a job whenever you want, no one is holding you there
I have an interview at the mac counter there.
Hope it went well!!
thank you
no prob!
Wait so do u make an hourly rate plus commission? And would u get fired if u don’t make ur target? Just applied to beauty sales men’s fragrance
it’s either or, whichever is higher during the pay period you take home, but you’re always guaranteed your hourly pay.
you don’t get fired if you don’t make your target but it’s definitely better to try and make it consistently
Do you have any sales experience before the interview?
i did not!
I understand now!? I loved working at Nordstrom! 1997
Does the employee discount work on luxury items such as designer handbags and accessories? Thanks!
Yes!
Yes it does! (:
I've actually had sales reps that love designer tell me that they only work there, part time, for the discount. I suppose that's when it pays off.
do you know how much the personal stylist make?
The personal stylists at Nordstrom make a ton however it is based on appointments so if you are starting out fresh as a PS with Nordstrom don't expect to make as much as the others, build up your clientele and you'll be making really good money in no time!
To be a personal stylist you have to meet certain quotas. You basically start out as a regular sales associate and build your book. You have to have a certain number of returning customers. You have to reach a certain percent of cross sell across the store, so you can’t just mainly sell from one dept. If you become a ps, but then stop reaching those goals, then you will be dropped as a stylist and put back as a normal associate. The stylists pay is the same commission base plus 1%. So if they sell shoes they get 11% or designer clothing they get 10% instead of 9. Most stylists are pacesetters(highest sellers) so they get commission bumps that way as well.
I worked for Bullocks in the summer of 1988. I loved it. Bullocks was an awesome store. The merchandise was high end and the best quality.
Do you know what the pay is like for women trends?
I am pretty sure it was commission of %6.75 (:
Retail really stretches your skills as a person. There are very few jobs avail if you want to get ahead in the company what will require that you only want to stay at the job for 8 hours. Get over it. That IS how retail is.
If you want that, get a government job where you have to deal with people who are in the same rut as you are in. A rut is a casket with two open ends. You work you for a company that offers security or opportunity.
All the best in your chosen career path.
You beautiful I like your hair!!
thank you!
Wow. A lot of the math in this video was incorrect. No wonder.
what was incorrect?
So its hourly and commission based?
depends on your department! home and cosmetics had both, but apparel and shoes is either or, whichever makes higher is what you get. does that help?
what was work attire like?
adaywith T depends on the department you work for, usually you have to be business casual
like someone else mentioned, it depended on the department. Some departments let you wear jeans and others required you to dress up a little more! accessories and a third piece were always required though!
kid shoes here!!! 🥳 love nordstrom
yess!!!
You can stay at my place if you ever in Portland Oregon again. Me love you long time
Nordstrom sells real stuff right?
YT JJKILLER lol yes
😂😂😂
30% ??? It’s 20%
Sarah Siddiqui it’s 33% if you’re a pacesetter
Alex Tshimanga what do you mean by pacesetter??
Lucy Orellana if beat your department’s sales among all its employees within the year you become pacesetter and your discount goes up to 33%
@@alextshimanga4174 also don't forget if you become an Allstar your % goes up too!
I work a Nordstrom now in the lingerie department
do you like it?
@@ClassicChayce I actually got transferred to the womens active department now but yes
@@rachelschenck9761 our women's active is right next to lingerie so we do a lot of cross selling.
