Thank you for this. This technique worked a treat today on a tight 180 degree curve I needed to get done. I have a second identical one to do which I know now will be a cinch too! I should add that I applied PVA to the entire length of track and worked it around, securing with push pins as I went, i.e. shaping and fixing in one go.

you may unknowingly be glad over time that you spent the $$$ for curved pieces. everything in this video looks fine and dandy until you need to switch to a new piece of flex track in the middle of a corner. thats the hardest part. i'm not saying it can't be done... but it's hard. that's when using pre-curved pieces like you did could end up making your track more reliable. especially working in n-scale... the tiniest issue going over rail joiners will make those big modern freight locos with 3 axles per truck derail. just wanted to chime in that maybe your $60 was well spent!! :)
@@tony791999 if you're worried about adding a piece of flex track in the middle of a curve why not just cut the track before the curve then add a full piece to run the length of a curve?
Genius! I went a step further and drilled a small hole dead center where the track nails would be, used a thick drafting pencil lead in the hole and marked the table top 1st, this is the center line of the two piece cork roadbed.

Some possible suggestions; also include measurements for making the same thing in h o gauge, and when you get to the part that is covering the measurements please pause and zoom in on the measurements so that they can be noted. I know that you can pause the playback but typically when you do that the image is dimmed significantly and it's hard to make out. Thanks again, based on your presentation I plan to make a similar tool but include as many radiuses as I can. 😁
How your flex track stay curved. When I do curve, it does curved but after it gets again straight, doesn’t stay curved. Can you help. Your tool is great, I made it just like that. Very nice. Please help
need to tell people most flex track has 1 rail secured to ties and that rail must be on the inside of curve as it wont let ties slide apart for spacing

Great idea ! Im into European TT , thank you for sharing ! As one railfan to another. One question ,how do you keep it curved in perfect position without using pins ? Nailing it down , so it keeps its perfect curve ???

I used ME Code 55 flex tracks, they keep there shape when bent unlike atlas where you have to hold it in position and glue it down. so for ME tracks you can still use pins as you progress your curving but it can hold the position even without the pins. but for Atlas flex track yes you need it to pin and also glue as you progress curving it! hope that helps

You mean it works with any Scale, not Gauge. Scale is the proportion of the real world to be reduced to miniature. Gauge is the distance between the rails to become a set of measurements and the height of the rails above the ties. Gauge examples are code 55, code 7-, code 83, code 100.

So you have to have a block of wood for each radius set you want to do. Buy two trammel points put a pencil in one and spread the points on only one piece of wood to your desired radius and draw the radius on your table. VOOOOLLA
I had a very tight curve also i was planning to attach turnouts. I was having only 23" inches of vertical areas to work with and in the center because of column that area gets reduced to only 20 inches. So as you can see i am on tight tolerance little bit curve gets out center and loco can't run. So that's why i used this tool to make sure i pre curve them and plan accordingly. Thanks for your interest.

the concept is good but while "rounding" the curb of the track there's no effort in attaching the track to the board below. Having to repeat this process IMO, is a waste of time. Showing that you are attaching the track as you "curve" it is part of what your video should show.
Yes I agree but the track i am using is micro engeenering track and it forms shape as you curve not like atlas track which needs to be pinned down as you curve.

Nice one. This works for 009. I also drilled pivot holes at 1cm intervals so I can get any radius from 12-40cm.

Nice jig you have for curving flex. Personally I use Atlas and don't have to do all the forming. Just draw a line and follow it...
Yes Atlas track do not need any Jig for forming . This is for ME tracks only

I used small saw to cut the grooves. The wood is approx 1 inch x 13 inch x 0.5 inch in size
A large paint stir stick would work .
I ended up using a piece of 1X2 but cut the length 2”. I have a lot of variable radius curves so this works perfectly.

This will give you constant radius curves. If you want proper transition curves draw two axes and use the "spirograph" method.
I have 2 entire shipping boxes one has cork roadbed and the other is filled to the lid with flextrack

Yaa if you got the ME tracks then shaping is good option.
My experience with flex track is atlas won't stay curved after one lets go
Only Micro Engeeneering flex track will stay curved
Why dont people just use a piece of sectional that has the radi you want and match the flex to it?
Because maybe the radius is not available in sectional train. Besides going by other videos flexi track seems to give be results.
