Michael Collins was pro treaty and the IRA that fought against the Irish state were anti-treaty and seen him as a traitor for 'abandoning' the Catholics in the 6 counties which would become Northern Ireland and they would not recognise any agreement unless it was a 32 county Ireland. IRA splits multiple times due to ideology. Loyalist paramilitaries split because they hate eachother and do a bender "I'm going to start my own Loyalists paramilitary with blackjack and hooker." Some don't think they were being extreme enough others dont like their leaders, a few actually did have issues with ideology.
