  • Five hours after the House of Representatives passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 President Johnson signed the billed into law. President Johnson addressed the nation in a televised speech and called on all American Citizens to uphold the 1964 Civil Rights Act and asked for justice for all people. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and handed out pens to Senator Everett Dirksen, Vice President Hubert Humphrey, J. Edgar Hoover, Martin Luther King Jr. and Attorney General Robert Kennedy.
