Absolutely wonderful!!! My fellow soldiers have taken one of my all time favorite jazz pieces and made it their own. I loved it!! I think Mr. Silver may have missed the mark on not allowing both pieces of brass to express in the original tune. Even more proud to be an army veteran.
Thanks go to the great musicians, but equal thanks goes to the production team recording this. Audio is sharp and in stereo, drums mixed very well, bass not hidden because gear couldn't keep up. Piano perfect. Then the multiple cameras, back lighting, set and venue overall. This is not just set up in a garage and streamed with a cell phone. Thank you.
Daaaamn, this is fricking awesome. I love this arrangement. And omg the trumpet solo, really great job guys. I'm happy that those people get to represent America's music in the most official way possible! Like, that's some deep jazz school technique. I also love the licc at 6:10 and 6:33 🤙
The video portrays the correct view of the flags on our uniforms. It's as if we are carrying a waving flag. That's why the flag is worn in that orientation.
This song should really only be covered on a smoky stage, dim lighting and small tables for one or two, cheap gin and watered down vermouth. This song is the strong pulse of jazz. This song, I'm sorry, I served, but I don't think it should be done in uniform. But you guys are good. No, take that back, you guys (all genders included) are REALLY good. Yeah, ok, REALLY REALLY good. Thanks for sharing this.
I was an Army bandsman for many years and I gotta say I'm a little disappointed. First, that was a little loose to put it politely. Second, hello alto player this is not concert band. Also if you're reading chords while playing your solo on this tune that has all of 5 chords wtf? Back in my day the standards to get in the Jazz Ambassadors was so high I couldn't make the cut. Now? Whole different story
trombone solo was amazing!

We'll pass that on to our team!

Horace Silver and his dad are up in heaven smiling. So might be Joe Henderson, Woody Shaw, and Carmel Jones.

I wonder if they followed this with "Sister Sadie" or "Filthy McNasty?" Perhaps they performed "Pretty Eyes" as an encore!
Not this time, but those are great suggestions for future programs!
@@ArmyFieldBand Thanks for the follow up. Continued best wishes!
Some cheeky references in the sax solo there
Please tell me who is playing alto saxophone. She is amazing.
That's our wonderful Staff Sgt. Mercedes Beckman!
Staff Sgt Beckman nailed it!
Can someone explain why the piano’s flag patch is on upside down?

@@ArmyFieldBand Gotcha! Thanks for the Reply. Wasnt trying to be petty, I was genuinely curious!
