As an ex-CS60 owner I really know the sound of this range of synths. The CS80v v4 is very much the closest. The gx80 sounds good but does not get close to the heart. It lacks the original's errors. It's too perfect. The V3 ring mod wasn't right but they have nailed it in V4. Presence in the Arturia is stronger which is important for the cS range. The CS80v just carries a better frequency range within its sound.
Lucky that you owned an original CS; never played one. Yeah, as the novelty of the GX-80 has worn off, I'm still impressed but I find myself going back to the CS-80v4. In part for the modulation controls, but also something to the underlying sound. The CS feels a touch warmer and like a more solid base, even when the GX may have more complexity. Maybe that's the too-perfect feel of the GX you're describing..
I love both of them. The GX-80 has more programability since it is a hybrid between the GX-1 and the CS 80 and has a unique sound all of it's own. but, the Arturia is a much more matured instrument and has been around for quite a number of years, now at v4, with many refinements that make it sound more like the real deal to my ears.
Interesting demonstration. I have to agree with Paul Jeavons. The Arturia is a solid sonic platform. The Cherry Audio is a great addition to the pallete. I used to own the original back in 1994 and it was always out of tune so comparisons are academic at best.
@@busywl69 we are spoiled. I also got the v collection this time last year when it was on sale. Was thinking about u-he Zebra Legacy this year but it's not marked down any more. (I love Diva.) Went for Arturia Pigments
The 2 synths a far far away from the original. Some Vangelis songs, uses CS80 presets like brass 1 or guitar 1. On Arturia or Cherry, these sounds are vereeeeeery diferent. I need to turn a lot os knbos to meet the original flavor.

After comparing the prices of both VSTs it's very easy to take the decision of which one to pick.
GX 80 is SIGNIFICANTLY better. Especially when you did simply having. It’s the real deal!
GX-80 is more close to the original CS-80. Arturia's CS-80 is.... "different" but interesting!

Layering/Stacking the CS80 is very easy within AnalogLab V wich comes with the V Collection as well ... if you need a stand alone solution.
I got the V collection last year. Getting the V collection this year. We are so spoiled today.
But you only get like two new synths for $hundreds.

Arthurian is less inspiring.
cs80 v4 is as far close to original sound. i have both gx80 and cs80 i have reproduced with cs80v the exact sound of Vangelis hymn
