Dell Latitude e6440

Just a short talk about my junk pile Dell Latitude E6440 laptop. Its not a great machine but it does get the point across. Tween-series machines are always so wierd to work on... though it is a product of a bigon era of computing.

Thanks for the video! I'm still using my E6430 - it just failed though with it reporting a CPU fault. I've ordered a replacement CPU, but am looking at a E6440 if I need to get a new one. They make for nice spares like on trips because I can remove the battery and put it in the checked bag.

Still use this thing on Windows 7, only thing is the battery but its a little thing on my desk so all good.
Man this is a golden laptop
It has great performance and build quality, even after years no hinge issues or physical issues ever since atleast 2017

Its a weird generation but one of the last of those golden boy design like this. Thick and durable. In some ways laptops should still be built this way, though I do appreciate the ultrabook form factor

I had to get rid of my e6420 and 6430 due to the rubber Palm rest turning to glue

I really wonder how much of the temperature issue is insufficient cold air intake. I have both an e6420 and an e6430 with discrete graphics and see similar high temperatures. What catches my attention is how far the only vents on the bottom cover are from the fan intake. I've seriously considered adding vent holes right below the center of the fan to see if it makes a difference.

And that might help. It's just a poor design in my opinion that doesn't allow enough air flow
