  • The name Olumo is the combination of two words: "Olu" which means god/deity, and "mo" which means moulded in Yoruba. Olumo Rock is believed to have been a natural fortress for the Egba people during intertribal warfare in the 19th century.
Olumo Rock also served as a place of refuge for the Egba people during the early colonial period when they resisted British rule. It became a symbol of their resilience and resistance against colonial oppression.
In addition to its historical significance, Olumo Rock has become a popular tourist attraction in Nigeria, attracting visitors from around the world who come to explore its caves, climb its stairs, and enjoy the panoramic views of Abeokuta from the top.
Climbing the legendary Olumo Rock famed as the founding site of Abeokuta, a massive outcrop of granite rock that towers above the city was fun and exciting
