- Robert, W4RKM, has watched many videos on the funtions and capabilities of a rig, but he wants to know the differences and applications for the various noise filter functions. For example what do the Pre-Amp, Attenuation, Notch, Noise Blanker, Noise Reduction, and IP+ buttons do?

Very timely review with Winter Field Day approaching. We'll be setting up 3 stations possibly 4 for our club and the IC 7300 does have a tendency to get input overload. Btw our phone antenna will be a DX Commander all band setup. Only takes us about 30 minutes to get it ready. Thanks for your incredible support. 73
Thanks Dave, you are a friend to the guys just learning about radios like me.
Muchas gracias Dave. I've been experimenting with the 7300 for a little over a year, I believe it may be one of the most popular rigs used on the air today. I wish the ICOM manual went into the same detail as your videos. I never have used the pre-amp feature on the 7300. I'll have to try it on the upper bands with a weak signal I want to work. 73, KC3REC
I occasionally go to the CW bands to practice my listening and the automatic notch works beautifully every single time if there is a carrier signal or even someone trying to tune up nearby.
I might just be lucky, though. lol
Thanks very much for this Dave, I'm going to bookmark this video for reference.
Great video! I find my self using the notch Manuel filter a lot! You forgot to mention that If you hold the notch filter Down you get some manual control like width and placement.
How I use the notch filter is that If a ft8 signal stats squealing away within the voice SSB signal your listening to you can manually select the smallest notch filter and exactly cover up that ft8 signal. Keep this videos coming! I’ve lesson much from you!
Even as a Extra - Dave... this was incredibly informative. And, Thank you.
This it the type of instructional video that I get the most out of, even thou I do not own an IC-7300 (it is my dream rig). Perhaps you could do some step-by-step videos for things like manual tuning, using a logging program or using an antenna analyzer.
He made a bunch which were free, but behind our backs sold them to the ARRL. They’re behind a paywall.

Hello there!
I find that the RF gain is an extremely effective control to reduce noise, second only to the automatic noise reduction. I almost never run the RF gain wide open. I believe a lot of hams use it that way to control noise.
RF gain is among the most useful controls a radio has, second only to the OFF button.
your reference setup is great.
Another excellent video. Thanks Dave.
thank Dave. I knew what some of them do but you enlightened me on the others
I like to use my pre amp on 80 meters all the time. I just turn the volume down compared to 40 meters and higher. That’s interesting about the notch filter. I always wondered where that would be useful. I usually just use my noise blanker on mobile setups but recently I had a 3 day power outage and used it to filter out my generator ignition noise.
Last summer I went to a local ham group picnic at a campground. I had a chance to use my mobile station’s attenuator but the signals from the other hams at the picnic were so strong that my S meter still maxed out even from QRP signals. My pre am was also off. It was pretty interesting to see!
Like this one. Very informative.
Good vid. I have an IC746pro. This vid will be good for the 746 and 756 family Icoms
Very helpful. Thank you.
I use auto notch all the time to block out people tuning up when I'm chasing DX on SSB. There's always someone that has to send a 800w carrier while the DX is trying to finish a QSO, auto notch finds it and squelches it fast
The 7300 NB is excellent. I've got some bad local QRM, and it just knocks it to zero.
Dave! Hello Friend. Are you coming to the Quartzite Hamfest? Which days?
Looks like the older firmware in that IC-7300?
Download the 7300 pdf to your computer or cell. Only print what you need.
Thanks Dave! 73s KC9TUL
Sleepy…
Thumbs down again and stopped video once I heard “ before we get into “
I can’t believe he has the audacity to show his face after his selling the training videos to the ARRL. He’s not helping hams to be a nice guy. He’s doing it for the $$$.
I will never support that backstabber again!
@@holden190 Yet, here you are. lol.
@@holden190 not that his videos help pass the exams….there are other sources free to study much better… I used app that repeated missed questions on practice exams
