      Raggex X mate you need like 45 kilo dumbells ans do standing calf raises on the edge of a stair. Those light weights will only tone your calves not make them get really big

    I must add, "blaming genetics" IS THE BEST excuse out there. It is the biggest limiting factor in calf size.
    Most people with decent calves have them 100% due to genetics. They may train them, but they would be big either way, even if they didn't train them.
    Using Arnold as an example of a small calf person who overcame the genetics "excuse" is bad because he was on steroids. Show me a 100% legitimate natural who started out with small (less than 14.5") calves who grew them to nice calves. THAT is what I'd like to see, and that is who I would take advice from.
    No offense to anyone but it's hard to take advice from people with genetically gifted calves or steroid users when it comes to growing calves for a natural, small calf person.

      Gluten Even roids don't do much for bad calve genetics.

    • @SIIKAP1
      @SIIKAP1 7 років тому +7

      Dan Haines yeah I mean it still will be a ton of work, but with roids we've seen it's possible. I.e. Arnold.
      I've yet to see a legitimate natural with small calves pre-lift grow them to be decent sized. It's always guys who already had decent calves, or guys who are steroid users. (or both)

    • @danhaines7233
      @danhaines7233 7 років тому +2

      Gluten Arnolds calves were high and slim well into his training years but in the movie twins they are pretty big despite the rest of him shrinking away. I suspect implants on that. Anyway, it's no excuse not to have a dedicated calve day if you weight train. Train what you have!

    Also when training calves, it's a good idea to wear a shoe with a lighter sole to really get the most out of the work out. An ametur wrestling style shoe such as Otomix or Asics is optimal. You definitely don't want a shoe with a bulky sole when working calves because traditional soles in other shoes will essentially block the muscle from being truly worked and stimulated.

  • @rolandsahlander2239

    I had to measure arms and calves to see the ratio and to my surprise they were exactly the same size. I´m not a big guy tho and I´m sure the more you train the worse the ratio tends to become. Nice video!

  • @wonder777warrior6

    Believe me, when you work out your legs, you will feel a lot better about yourself!! More so than your arms. it's easy to work your arms. working out your legs take dedication and persistence and will lead you to be more proud, confident and more motivated! You can do it! you wanna work them buns. Nobody like wet soggy bread right? get em firm!! I would say I'm fairly balanced, just need to lose wait, and tone my abs a bit.

    I never knew people considered calves a chore. I love doing them. I always found them to be a cool muscle because of just how strong they are. The way it was put to me is, just think of how effortlessly you can stand on your toes. Even on one foot. Your calves take your whole body weight like it's nothing!

  • @Kilcobert19
    @Kilcobert19 7 років тому

    Problem: weak calves. Answer: barefoot shoes. Having your heel lower to the floor extends the Achilles and the calf muscle making each do more work in calf or leg exercises. Plyometrics, circuits, cycling and running all improve calf definition and bulk. You'll see a lot of runners with huge calves and no arms - the opposite to the gym dude who skipped leg day. But it's essentially the same principle.

  • @knightveg
    @knightveg 6 років тому

    Mistake number six: you don't have to use gym equipment to build calfs
    Like people said you could walk but there's other exercise like road cycling or off-road cycling
    Swimming, incline sprints

    Do your calf raises at the BEGINNING OF YOUR WORKOUT with one leg at a time. Have one set with feet pointed inward, then another with feet pointed out, and then the last one with both feet with feet pointed forward on a horizontal platform to failure (leg press could work). Then do the same with standing and sitting calf raises. Do this 3x a week, with 8-15 reps and your calves will grow!! My calves grew 3 inches from having stick legs, and man it is great lol! Let me know if this helps!

      usually its because they're not used to the exersize. Maybe try to do them very light, see how they react to that. Might also that the form is wrong. Or its a physical problem. Who knows

    Arnold never had that bad calves really. He saw himself as having bad calves but It was mostly because his own perfectionist mind and he wanted them to look symmetric with the rest of his body. I think he mentioned that calves should be the same size as neck and biceps and as we all know he had great biceps so it took years of hard work to get the rest of his body to match those arms. He always had bigger calves than most people even back in those days.

  • @kevinpilch7848

    I struggle with building calves due to having clubbed feet. I have about 30% of normal range of motion. It really keeps me from engaging my soleus. My feet also wear out long before my calves...

    Ironic thing is, another issue is some guys have GOOD genetics for calves so they won’t work them. I have good genetics for calves but I still work them just like any other muscle. I’ve always wore shorts in the gym too, pants are just uncomfortable to me. Only time I wear pants in there is if I go there directly from work an I gotta go into work early that night or whatever. I’m 5’6 so that would explain my calves lol

    Seriously, the biggest most badass looking calves I've ever seen are on a chubby diabetic guy who's never worked out a day in his life. Meanwhile, skinny dudes can bust their asses day in day out for years and barely show any progress at all. ....You should still work them anyway though.

    I built my legs by walking with extra weight in a backpack, biking with extra weight in a backpack, lawnmowing, shoveling snow, and walking a husky a good distance per day. I was also fat as a child, so I had to move that weight too... I've had beefy legs since I've been a child. I shedded almost all of my fat when I was a teen, and been gaining muscle since!
    Edit: I'm also genetically gifted to having a stocky body.

    My calves grow when I do squats. Ass to grass squats really helps. I used to have chicken legs, but they're slowing getting bigger.

    Great video except you didn't stress the need to do standing raises or donkey raises. Seated only won't cut it.
