Very nice lesson Doug! I’ve always loved this song and I bought the 45 rpm record of it when I was a kid. I think that Howard Roberts might have played guitar on it. The flashy raked lick at the end sounds exactly like something Howard would play!
Doug, thats a killer arrangement on this classic and brilliantly played, fantastic!! Just watched it again, and man it is so hip, inspirational! Thank you, cheers
CLASSIC...shit i love those sound. i nver saw you playing bass. funny when it jumps into straight and back to swing. great presentation too, editing and all
I just stumbled across this today Doug. We do Route 66 in our western swing band and I thought a version of this theme might be a fun interlude--hopefully i can translate your slide part to my lap steel! Thanks for posting, man--particularly your clear analysis of the harmony!
Thank you , Doug 👍 All regards to Bobby Troup , but the TV theme is part of my lifes' soundtrack ... for whatever reason , i have trouble sensing 1/2 steps ~ & i NEVER would have heard that 11th ... 'wouldve written it as "7x" - LOL 😄👌
Hey Doug, great stuff! Many thanks for showing us the theory you used in adapting for guitar. I sent this to a Route 66 TV series discussion group I've been a part of since 2000. Also sending to my jazz guitarist buddy who reminds me a lot of yourself! He plays the solo on this cover of "Peg" we did last year. ua-cam.com/video/5r4LIGK7iD0/v-deo.html
