    I am a black Belt and have 30 years experience. I love the Krav Maga Techniques. But I teach all my students if someone has a knife and you have to defend 99% chance your going to get cut. So only defend if it is 100% necessary. I tell them I was a track star before Martial Arts, and I will run before I get shot or stabbed. Rule # 1 He is they. Rule #2 They are armed. Rule # 3 is If you are not armed get armed. I may have a Black Belt but I clip my 9 mm to it.

    This is also how we do knife defense in Taekwondo, while its not altogether wrong, it offers little help to real knife defense. Recently I started doing free style knife defense where the attacker has a "knife" and comes at you relentlessly and realistically with it at full contact and speed until you successfully counter. This type of training is more than helpful. When I started I would get cut a LOT, but after only a week or so I can get through rounds without getting cut at all.
    When doing freestyle knife defense sparring, you'll notice that the high block, like used in the video, is rarely used. Attacks are far more direct and often come from a close range. My suggestion: cat paw, low block, and bursting.

      i remember reading an article where a guy as part of a demo would attack knive fighting experts with what he called a prison rush.
      which is basically rushing towards the victim and attacking like a madman.over 90% procent of these highly trained specialists would have ended up dead in a real situation.
      people also tend to forget that in a real situation the adrenaline kicks up,giving you tunnelvision and making you unable to remember all but the simplest techniques you learned.combined with a madman attacking you is the reason why most techniques will fail on the street.

    Highly doubt an attacker would ever do such as slow overhand swing, in reality an attack would probably be so fast you simply can't block it like that.
    I challenge you to use these techniques at real speed during something like "the red marker test" (wear a white t-shirt and let someone attack with a red pen)

    The beauty is that you use the same typical 360 defense for a punch can be used for a knife. Yes, you got to train various distances from different scenarios (such as when you are fully aware with spare time to react and when you are late to respond but you must still react). The arc / angle may be tighter but the defense can be issued appropriately.

    Sadoruro and Darius are onto it. Two hands is the more instinctive grab for the human animal in this type of attack. Trying to simultaneous punch assuming the 90 degree one hand block is going to "take care of" the weapon hand is very bad. From there, you attack the man never releasing either hand...kicks, head buts sweeps etc or maybe stun and run!

    It is better to wait until the attack comes and the opponent is committed and extended. Where this could break down in actual use is if the opponent recognizes your forward motion and changes direction. You are exposed in the gut and kidneys with your arms over your head. You are now wounded and in a wrestling match with a knife wielding attacker.
    The eventual wrist control and pummeling is a good response. Just have to be careful of the initial timing of when to engage.

    • @lolnooblandia
      @lolnooblandia 10 років тому

      You don't seem to know much about momentum...
      If you wait for him to extend his arm, he already has full strenight, if he is stronger than you he will most likely push your hand away and stab you anyway.

    • @GuroJeromeTeague
      @GuroJeromeTeague 10 років тому

      What do mean when you say "momentum"? When your limbs are extended you are at your weakest. If you allow the opponent to extend the attack and you are able to seize it, you can control the arm. It is basic anatomy. The only difference between what I am describing and this video is that in Filipino Martial Arts we do not extend to meet the opponent, we want them to extend to meet us.
      Also, when challenging someones point of view, it is usually good form to present a counter idea. Also, what are your credentials to speak with such certainty?

    use these and expect to be sliced and stabbed a few times.
    best thing to do is run if you can, find a pole or something.
    but if nothing else remember the knees, your legs have more reach and if done right he will do all the work, put your foot in the side of his knee or directly into the cap he will go down .
    The key it to get the hell away from them or at least slow them down enough to draw your side arm.

  • @trevorcarterva
    @trevorcarterva 7 років тому

    Good luck with using that technique. For one, your attacker isn't going to let you know how they're going to attack. Secondly, their strike with the knife is going to come a lot faster and more unpredictable than what's shown in the video. You probably have about a 5-10% chance of getting control of their wrist. Carry pepper spray/mace. Spray and run.

    I have a question and you might think it's a stupid question. Even though I believe there is no such thing as a stupid question only stupid people with questions.... but I was wondering if there was any way to block a knife slice with knuckles or a body part that will minimize the injury to your to avoid a leathel strike. I seen a movie one time...( I know it's only a movie) but one guy was behind this other man he was trying to slice him with the knife in a lethal slice and he defended by blocking it with the flat bone between the knuckles. I'm thinking that would be tendons but anyway just wondering if there is anything you can do like they do defend in life or death

  • @marksn4020
    @marksn4020 3 роки тому

    I got shown this move and many variations to it many years ago, but know this people, expect to get cut. Anyone who has a knife will be holding it with force and will more than likely not be telegraphing a knife attack the way of its shown in the video.
    More likely short sharp Vicious movements. (don't take my word on this check out our here on UA-cam about the truth on knife techniques. )
    With that in mind it is better to know something than nothing at all. Practice, practice, practice.

  • @Sadoruro
    @Sadoruro 9 років тому +3

    This is not even the proper form of defending a knife attack. In knife attack defense, the first thing you have to do is to grab the arm that hold the knife. Yes, grab it, preferely with both hands.
    In reality, there wil be no telegraphied attacks, and the man will not let his arm stay in the same position while you do your technique. He will retrack his arm and stab you again. So you have to grab his arm and hold it like your life depends on it, be cause it depends on it.
    Do like we do in my Ju-jutsu class : use little and relatively fragile wood stick, like the ones found on the ground, and attack him with full speed. If the stick broke on you, you're stabbed.

      Anyone used to knife fighting will hold it knife down as you can punch and also you are very likely to stab yourself with blade pointing up grip. Try it and see.

      Other guy making stupid comments... In krav maga, if u have time to run, u run! You only defend in case you dont have time to run... And of course this is not the most common attack... But if your training kinfe defense u must know how to defend from every angle

    I really can't make my mind up about krav maga. I've been to 3 different clubs. Each claiming to be better yet there's little progression.
    It's almost as if it's too easy so the instructors are "fuck it lets move onto another move" after practicing one only 3 times.
    When I was training tae kwon do, the moves and awareness was drilled into me so it becomes second nature. No one I've trained with in krav maga including the higher ranks can seem to defend themselves from mutiple attacks.
    Someone put a choke on me, I reacted and broke out of it before they managed to actually get near my neck. They complained i was "too fast". Well excuse me for not conditioning myself to let someone choke me.
    I like the idea of krav but it just doesnt seem to work most of the time.

    Run and yell for help! If he follows find something to throw at him. Find a pole or stick, garbage can, chair! Do not engaged the target in close combat ever! Find a rock, talk him out of it, call the police, tell him you called the police. If you are held in any knife hold comply with the person 100% follow orders and do not fuck with them. Give them anything they want and walk away alive.
    If there is no choice and you see him lunge at you then I guess throw a straight right to the face and then follow the above!

    If you're in a self-defense situation and the only weapon you can get your hands on is a kitchen knife, then it's gonna make defending yourself/family pretty difficult. Especially against a larger attacker. But let's say that this man has been threatening your mother over the phone and is now at your house, let's say he's unarmed, and he's fixing to get your little baby half brother, and is willing to attack anyone who gets in his way or is willing to beat your mother to a pulp. How can you defend your family against something like that? Well, for non-lethal self-defense, stab him repeatedly in the stomach over and over again until you have the fucker up against a wall as you're non-stop stabbing him directly in the stomach (which is located on the left side of the abdomen). The stomach is a highly effective spot to stab somebody, because one the pain of it is instant and crippling. I believe this may have to do with all the nerves that are in the stomach. I remember reading up on the Franklin Regional High School stabbing in where 16 year old Alex Hribal had stabbed an armed school resource officer in the stomach repeatedly until the stab wounds were massively wide, and the pain was so tremendous for the officer, that he couldn't even pull out his sidearm, because of how bad it was. Another reason why the stomach is a great place to stab in self-defense is because there are no bones that protect it (unlike the heart). And since kitchen knives are usually dull and flimsy, when they get thrusted through bone they usually get broken in half, the person who is doing the stabbing's hand would slide down the blade, fucking up their hand and/or fingers as it gets caught in the bone, or it may somehow go through the bone (if done with enough force), but the blade won't be able to come out. So the stomach is a perfect spot to aim for when armed with a kitchen knife. It's non-lethal in that in most cases in where people get stabbed in the stomach, they survive. And plus, while there are arteries that run around the stomach, however they're not that easily accessible with a blade, and plus even if severed, with prompt treatment, the bleeding can go away.
    Another non-lethal spot to stab would be the thigh. It's painful just like the stomach since there's a lot of major nerves that run through the thigh. It's one of or the most commonly stabbed/targeted spot in close quarters combat with knives. And I would also recommend stabbing the arm, as there are a lot of tendons and nerves that run in the arm, and when severed, the recipient may become permanently paralyzed in the affected arm. As for lethal self-defense, the throat would be a perfect option, because not only would they be bleeding and be in sufficient amounts of pain, but they would also have no way of breathing without the air coming out the wound, creating a grizzly gurgling noise, and thus the person would probably drown to death in their own blood first before bleeding out can even happen.

    Sorry I may be inexperienced and naive and I ask from a position of complete respect but why would you not try to grip the wrist with the knife at all costs first and foremost to neutralize the advantage then hammer down on trying to ground him? It seems insane not to make controlling that hand a priority at all costs.

      Marian K. I'm in complete agreement with you. An idiot wielding a blade can still do serious harm. So if you must confront a person with a knife it's very vital to control the weapon at all cost until you can subdue the person completely or knock the person unconscious as quickly as you can, you're life will always be in danger.

    Krav Maga, IDF 'defense' just shows you 69 techniques to attack defenseless pregnant women, small children and the elderly. That's all it is. In real life that dude would have sliced your lower arm off or cut into a major vein my 'friend'. Targets are NOT stationary. The dynamics of a real fight are constantly evolving.

      Even if the target is moving and hailing stitches on you... the Krav Maga technique does it´s best to minimize the risk of serious injury. Remember that no technique is totally safe! The risk of getting injured or killed is high, no matter which weapon is used. It is always the decision between "getting killed or heavily injured, or less injured" and not "i can get out here without any injury if I am good enough". First option is running, second one (and only if there is no other option) fight for your life and try not to get killed.
