    It is said that Tarantino did quite a similar approach to his film Kill Bill, Vol.1. When movie execs screened his film and told him to edit out more than half of the Crazy 88 fight scene with Beatrix, or face not so favorable movie classification for the whole film because of the gore and too much bloodshed, Tarantino decided to modify a large portion of the fight scene from full color to black and white to dull the senses and hopefully tone down extreme violence. In that same scene, Tarantino inserted a part where a female character shut off the lights during intense fighting that only the silhouettes of his characters can be seen to achieve less emotional intensity among viewers. In the end, Tarantino was able to have the whole Crazy 88 fight scene pass the movie execs approval and seemed to have quite favorable movie classification.

      @econ2566 4 роки тому +11

      @akshay Viswambharan Violence and profanity are tools that are needed for a certain type of film, not every movie. Both Quentin and Scorsese utilize them pretty well. But, don't generalize Indian films. It appears that you haven't watched Indian cinema at all. There are multitude of classics, old and new, that either you don't know about or ignore, just in Bollywood itself. And yes, Bollywood is not the whole Indian movie industry. So many underappreciated and not popular gems lie in the beautiful diverse languages. Again, don't have a condescending attitude.

    My favorite Taxi Driver story was that the script originally called for all the villains to be black but Scorsese said "No dude, that's racist." So he made the character that Harvey Keitel would play a white pimp who acts like a white dude who thinks he's black and have him work for the Italian Mafia. This was a great choice because it made Kietel's character more memorable.

    It would make more sense to shoot additional scenes so graphic and never meant to be approved and not vital to the film so that when the censorship comes in, what you cut makes what you have seem tame and keeps the integrity of the original film.

    QT is something else and his outrageous screenplays mirror realistic attitudes with a sense of humor. I'm black and I think the most comical QT screenplay, Reservoir Dogs," with the Old Dude making talking outlandish shit [the Doris Day/Probation Officer sequence] that was realistic, funny, and Un-PC as somebody's (including my own) writing or medium of expression should be.

      Not a reference but for the same reason
      "Originally, no black and white photographic effects were going to be used (and in the Japanese version, none are), but the MPAA demanded measures be taken to tone the scene down. Tarantino merely used the old trick for its intended purpose, rather than merely as an homage. "

    The final shootout scene is desaturated. There has been talk of restoring it with the film negative for decades but as I understand it the negative is either lost or too damaged. So release after release after release, the scene remains desaturated.

      Besides you ever Been in a situation where you wanted to do or make something but you weren’t allowed to because it’s too much and you tone it to a level where you don’t even see it as your work anymore

    First word that comes into my head when I see Tarantino is "respect". He has so much respect for his peers and for true film makers. He's one of the most perfect artists this world has ever seen, in my opinion. Think about it, this man can do whatever he wants, and he has always done whatever he wants, in regards to his films. Try bullying Tarantino around, it's just not happening. Disney tried and fuck them, there's no holding a Tarantino film back, simply because we don't have many of these story tellers left anymore. And also the amount of knowledge he has about films is beyond incredible, science should preserve his brain, no fucking joke. It's an encyclopedia up there. Can't wait for his 10th film. If it's going to be the last one like he says it will, then I can't imagine how great it will be.
