Hello EMS team, we do understand that these videos helps you to stand out of crowd. Most likely you are a small business trying to expand. We are professional movers too and I can tell you from my experience that don't save on time, rather do a great quality job. You may not be able to impress Customer with your super techniques but will definitely make him/her upset with a tiny scratch . And with this technique, damages are almost inevitable. In next video, have some load in boxes. It will help you.
This is an extreme example, and that back box wouldnt be super heavy, otherwise the strap would bend the back box, and using the handcart in the front is just showing off at that point, but that technique behind the back is solid if you do it right, believe it or not. I thought the same thing, that it was a dumb idea since im a mover and I never saw that, and it looks like it would be bad for your back. Then I met a guy who's been moving for 35 years who does the same technique, usually without that back box, and then I met another old guy on the road who does the same thing, both of them with healthy looking postures (standing up straight). It actually strengthens your back and your core (if you're engaging your core that is), gives you alot of control of the boxes, is easy to do, and leaves you with a healthy, strong back. I think it's a Chicago technique cause thats the only place I've seen, it but I'm not sure.

I feel like although I can relate to being appalled at some techniques when working with other movers, I feel that empirical education and technique analysis is lacking severely when it comes to judging what is proper vs not. The back strap technique has been practiced and evolved in many countries prior and during the industrial revolution. I'm pretty sure there are many photos of people carrying very heavy weights on their body. It is known that banding weight even against the head, can hold up to 20% of your body weight without adding any extra stress to your muscles. Many of the methods require the load to be at its heaviest above the center of gravity, the lower center of the spine, as well as the grip or strap to move the weight over at the top of the shoulders or even top of the head if one could pull it off. These techniques have been sloppily incorporated into moving , but most of the anatomical issues from these techniques arent really that bad in comparison to what we consider proper techniques. Combined with the machismo and territorial management and boss profiles of the industry, there is a lack of researching and testing methods to find better ways as being efficient. Sometimes, the best way to do it is not the best way but the way the specific moving company builds their identity. That's why there is so much hate..because "my company would never do something so dangerous !" The first thing I thought Is wardrobe boxes run about 35-45 lbs. At 5 boxes the load is about 150 lbs. Distribution of the boxes furthest from center of gravity will have the biggest consequences. Is it doable? Yes. Can it be dangerous ? Also yes. Kinetically more dangerous that deadlifting a sleeper sofa? I have no idea! But I would like to find out, because I feel becoming a great mover means to constantly test your limits and see how far one can go. What one can do. I see many get injured doing dumb things. But its usually in the area ofcarelessness. When it has come to crafty. I've been shocked at the crazy things people do on moves. But usually the zealous movers I meet are usually pretty strong and safe in practice..they just found better ways to do something. The assumed lack of safety here wouldnt be so pervasive if more movers understood load-carrying and backpack strap techniques . Being able to build a box moat with just a strap puts one person in a good efficient position. The weight would be an issue. but I dont see this being different than if your back hurt carrying 3 boxes up a flight of stairs There is danger everywhere on many of these carrying loads. especially front facing. I'm always going to laud movers who take efficiency seriously and who can move a lot with little. Since I've seen this practiced in other circumstances, I rather see this tested before it is bashed
While we hardly use these methods. There are times with long carries without shuttle access where we will strap 3 to 4 boxes to our back with a full dolly load to make each trip more efficient. strapping boxes to our back will increase the amount of boxes carried when going up multiple flights of stairs. reducing the amount of steps ran throughout the day clearing the truck faster shortening the amount of work in whole. The time used prepping the strap is time to rest between loads. so while these methods are a bit extreme, we still apply them when needed. obviously being on wheels using carts, dollys, speed packs are quickest. there are times with very long carries with multiple stairs where these methods are used. Everyone is a super star mover lol. We see them all over the country with different unique ways of doing things. This is just a different way of doing things. The whole point of this video is to be open minded and possibly learning a few things. The negative comments are just people being closed minded and set in their ways. All these people hating probably have never worked as a mover before...i would have loaded the dolly with most of the boxes using the hump strap and back carried some more with another hump strap
You have to have some core strength to carry items on your back with a hump strap. Also, it's actually better for your back than carrying something in front of you. 6.0's typically contain pillows, comforters, stuffed animals, etc. so carrying 3 of those types of boxes may represent around 60 lbs. The problem becomes the bulkiness of the load carried. They obviously aren't going to carry all of that into a home or business. They set it for the guys that are working the building. The video is demonstrating how to unload the truck efficiently. It takes time and lots of dropped boxes before someone can master this technique, but for the salty vets; it's the way to go

I've been a mover for 27 years and it's really easy when you've got empty boxes first and foremost who lays a dishpak on there side on top of two other dishpacks with a hump strap. And secondly when he gets in the house what is he going to use for a set spot for his three empty dish packs.. And third that is not a hump strap I started moving furniture back when humm straps were just plain burlap didn't even have the blue edges on them yet..
I like the people saying this is dumb.... If your in the right situation doing this does save on time plus 6.0 boxes are always packed light unless the packer is an amateur.Once you learn the technique and do it for a few years it gets easier. But if you get a weaker guy trying to "impress" these techniques end up bad
Not that it is dump but that the boxes that they use are called dish pack and usually weigh between 40 to 50 pounds they are used for the kitchen. So he actually holding 120 pounds on his back and 70 pounds in the box dolly in a long carry really?

No. As a single mother looking for tips this was no help at all... As a former part time professional mover "helper" (I tagged along on jobs for about 5 weeks with a friend.. but I got legit check stubs from him boss) I would never have done this. As a customer I would trip out and ask you if ur auditioning for a competition or just get pissed. And further more, speaking from multiple sides of the situation, it's always noticeably weird when you overcomplicate a task when you can do it more sensibly or safer. What I mean is by the time you stacked and then strapped all them empty boxes to your back with the help of your buddy, you both could have grabbed two boxes and in a reasonably swift pace carried them inside. Trust me most houses are multi-level and the most likely want stuff carried into the basement and sometimes it's an obstacle course even getting up to the door depending on the entrance or driveway set-up. You can't always just pull up to the back door wth a moving truck. Hell, once I had to make a bunch of trips down a stone path then to sand to a basement door that was beach facing. I know your video doesn't apply to every situation it was just so bizarre that I went there too lol. To be honest I have not seen any videos where I've been told to use a Dolly and it's actually a good idea because I could carry two pretty heavy boxes instead of struggling with one. Okay I'm done now sorry ...I was just triggered from the moment he said empty box lol
Easy to do with empty boxes!!!! And let's not forget the blood flow cutoff to his arms and chest. Plus, that fact of not being able to breathe right. The time u wasted to set up and slowly get to the door that he can't fit thru, I'm on my 3rd trip.😂😅
Those are empty boxes if they was heavy then that's abuse....making employee carry that on his back ....u get only one back you will feel that abuse later. ....if you tied all that and carried with dolly then ok
This looks super inefficient. In all the time it takes to rig this up and place the boxes in the right room, you could have made seven trips with boxes. Also you're lifting each box twice. Once to load it, another to unload and place it. And, are all of them going to the same room? It's unlikely, unless you picked through the boxes which would take up more time. We use wheels only for elevators and heavy pieces on long walkways.
U guys are amateur. Those boxes actually loaded weigh a lot. Plus u wont be able to get threw the door ull hit the ceiling. And the time u took to help ure partner 5 mis, i would have done two three loads already. Hiw bored where u guys😑
That is almost the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen as far as moving goes. The logic here is just ridiculous and just not practical whatsoever. By the time you set those boxes up and apply the straps, him and the other guy could’ve already dolly’ed all that in the garage and been back again!
1. Takes too fucking long to set up, specially with a piano strap... 2. Let’s say the wardrobes and 6 cubes have things in them.... The leverage you need to be able to carry that would take away from you being able to dolly anything at the same time. In every aspect of this business is all about speed, just as efficiency, What your demonstrating just takes to damn long and it looks dumb, It’s obvious you are not a road driver.
bye far is stupidest and dumbest idea I've seen you can't do that comfortable around the building or even go into an elevator or carrying all that weight if they really had anything in those boxes better to work safe
I've been a furniture mover since'83 and was broken in by old timers from Chicago. I was shown how to use a hump strap back then the right way and if done right it's efficient and safe. It's all about balance if done right you can take five 1.5's at 60 lbs A piece up 5 flights 3 times before a guy could on a dolly. that's just one example. stack with heaver items towards the top with lighter items at the bottom this will do two things 1 there is no pressure on back at all. 2 As you start up the stairs and continue, the heavier items will act as your momentum and you will not fall backwards. your heavier items will usually extend over your head at times but feels natural with years of practice. you use strap down under over or strap around depending on what it is. This can be used by the skinny guys to the bigger guys didn't matter. never once had a workers comp claim. if you think it's dump or not practical your not doing it right. and in the video being shown they ain't either. if those dish packs were full it's so low on his back he wouldn't get two steps before the load pulled him backwards and dropped the ctns. Make sure if your practicing you got a set box on the other end, and watch out for the over hangs that will determine how high you can go up with your load.
5 minutes to set up each load, besides the fact he can't get through the doorframe. Also he needs a place to set those items without them falling
Prophetic Picture
Right. And where in the hell is he going to put him when he gets in the house. There's no room to walk in the house when people have over 150 boxes per move.

lmao thats a waist.... alll tge time yull spend just to put it on plus if they were full u be just breaking ure back.......joke
Come on my guy, I can pack up a DISH PACK EASILY WITH 200LBS in it. Impress us with something real.
Yeah right lol I see a workers comp case 🤣
This looks super inefficient. In all the time it takes to rig this up and place the boxes in the right room, you could have made seven trips with boxes. Also you're lifting each box twice. Once to load it, another to unload and place it. And, are all of them going to the same room? It's unlikely, unless you picked through the boxes which would take up more time. We use wheels only for elevators and heavy pieces on long walkways.
is this a joke?
U guys are amateur. Those boxes actually loaded weigh a lot. Plus u wont be able to get threw the door ull hit the ceiling. And the time u took to help ure partner 5 mis, i would have done two three loads already. Hiw bored where u guys😑
The time it took y’all to do that I would of unloaded all those boxes smh
literally just take this video down. facepalm moment right here
That is almost the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen as far as moving goes. The logic here is just ridiculous and just not practical whatsoever. By the time you set those boxes up and apply the straps, him and the other guy could’ve already dolly’ed all that in the garage and been back again!
Pure comedy
BUT YOUR MOVER IS DOING IT WITH EMTY BOXES. DO IT WITH DISHPACK BOXES.
Empty cartons wow easy.
Lmfaoo jokes
This is a joke right??
No, these guys are that dumb lol
Yall fuckin serious lol
1. Takes too fucking long to set up, specially with a piano strap...
2. Let’s say the wardrobes and 6 cubes have things in them....
The leverage you need to be able to carry that would take away from you being able to dolly anything at the same time.
In every aspect of this business is all about speed, just as efficiency,
What your demonstrating just takes to damn long and it looks dumb,
It’s obvious you are not a road driver.
scabs
LOL
Lol empty plus is by da hour lol slow down don't get hurt don't work like him slow is by da hour
hahaha
terrible movers. wouldn't hire the company ever.
Seriously🙄🙄🙄
😂
hahahahahahahahaha....
That's stupid af
bye far is stupidest and dumbest idea I've seen you can't do that comfortable around the building or even go into an elevator or carrying all that weight if they really had anything in those boxes better to work safe
What a joke!!!!
LMAO WHAT A JOKE
