Thanks for posting this. I was on the last chair before the wind hold that day. I was trying to describe what it was like to someone, but this video does it better than I can describe.
guys read the descript. they are lifties hangin out on the chair. not random people. don't feel too bad for them,. they wanted to go up there in 110 mph winds, i think,. lol i wouldn't ever do that,.
The lifties that are hanging out are the guys in the shack. No one would allow them to get on a chair in wind like that whether they wanted to or not. The winds must have picked up after the chair was running, a lot of new chairs come with systems that shut the chair down if the wind speed gets too high, better to wait it out on a chair than to risk a deropement. If the lift deropes, then ski patrol has to go up and rappel the people down which would be hella scary in that wind.
@bsrkoacar Not really a typical day, but yes its windy here, when its bad, its real bad. We had 60+mph gusts today at the local Hill I work at, shut down two of four lifts, kept the others running on slow, pretty nasty. The wind in the video was freaking NUTS!
@suckseggs lol true, i dont even live in florida but i go there alot to visit my sister in college. when she moved there, she only took summer clothes and completely left out the hurricane factor :D
I would contemplate on jumping. What an awful place to be. I've been through stuff like this, but NEVER did it reach over 80mph. I wasn't expecting much either by clicking on this video but I'm glad I did.
@bsrkoacar that I dont doubt, the peaks can catch some nasty nasty gusts. Steamboat has had a few 100+mph wind events this year that wiped out some serious snow on storm peak. I can believe 85-90 gusts in cheyenne, you made it sound like you meant 90mph sustained winds, that doesn't happen. We had 70mph gusts yesterday morning in between Laramie and Centennial, then it calmed down about noon, beautiful day today but a little warm for my tastes.
*That time when you are skiing in Europe so they keep the chair running in 80 MPH winds* I have experienced something similar to that. Trust me, its much worse skiing down.
@bsrkoacar im 49 miles to the west, im in cheyenne about once a month, and ive only seen 90mph winds by Buford, i think your overestimating a little bit...
i hate to watch this and see these people on the chairlift because i was in that situation about a month ago up at mt baker on chair one, it was fucking crazy, i coulden't see anything and the chair was swinning back and forth
