- It seems that more now than ever, the LGBTQ+ community is under attack. With over 500 proposed bills, the banning of queer studies and a rise in hate crimes, Donovan, Constanza Eliana and some special guests come together to discuss the safety of the queer community. Does more visibility prove that things are getting better for the community or has it brought on even more backlash? Is politics to blame for the recent rise in anti-LGBTQ rhetoric? As a white cisgender heterosexual man, I'll never understand what it's like to be in the shoes of the guests on this show. But hearing their stories makes me wish we lived in a society where you don't have to constantly look over your shoulder and fear for your safety. Nobody should have to live in fear and fear for their safety for simply being who they are. People should be able to express themselves however they want and not have to fear for their safety. It's a very important topic that is being discussed in this episode and I feel it's very important to listen to those who are the most marginalized for example.
I’m truly grateful for this conversation, and wish I could participate. I’ve never really heard anyone articulate the pain of growing up Black and queer. I was also called the f-word before I know anything about sexuality, let alone my own identity. I just knew it was bad and not something I wanted to be. When I did begin to realize I was queer, it was extremely isolating because all the places where I had safety, church, school, even in my own family, immediately became hostile. Fast forward years later, it’s still difficult for me as an adult to come to terms with my sexual orientation. Thanks for sharing these important stories and perspectives!

An excellent conversation with great hosts/panelists! As a Black, queer/nonbinary person, I definitely know about having to put on the “armor” before I step outside or at least maintain some form of hypervigilance. It’s exhausting. I cope with lots of self-care. Community care is lacking.
Wish there were more AFAB peeps and acknowledgment of misogyny within queer spaces, but still a good discussion. I would also love a discussion with black cis women and black trans women, there is so much conversation and understanding to be had around the nuances of experiencing womanhood as a black person... Especially in regards to armouring yourself and not being allowed softness.
Absolutely! I was thinking the exact same thing. It was a great conversation, but still would have liked it to be more inclusive of AFAB voices and perspectives
Black women and trans woman spoke A LOT during covid. You can youtube those conversations. Laverne Cox was in the comments section, so the discussion travelled far and wide. I don’t know that it needs to be rehashed. All has been said.
@@deee3950 so are those voices no longer necessary to hear from now that COVID is over? 🤨 Did we not hear from queer black men during that time??? I don't understand why now that we're post-covid, we should throw inclusion out the window. Sounds a little misogynistic tbh

@Rajaun Reynolds try listening with headphones. The talking at the beginning is so low that you have to turn the volume to 80%. Then the intro comes booming, blasting your eardrums.
I totally get this convo but I do want to say that there are gay/bi people who are actually attracted to masc4masc (for men) and fem4fem (for women). Not everyone has what they like rooted in some sort of hate. I can actually flip the argument and say that gay/bi go for masc4fem to participate in some sort of pseudo patriarchy or pseudo societal standards (which for lesbians and hi women happen a lot, but I know it’s not all). Like someone said, it’s very layered. It’s truly in getting to know the individual and syphoning out the bs.
I also want to say that as a gay woman, I totally get feeling alive in women spaces and gay spaces as well. I am a fem woman so that may add into the comfortability in women spaces but I don’t mess with anybody, friends or romantic, when they on judge mental ish. Atleast not outwardly toward me that I can pick up on. I wish there were more gay friendly spaces of all kinds. I’m lucky to live in a city where we have a couple of spots that are known to be. And don’t forget the younger gens owning businesses and are pro-lgbt and treats us normally. All these old heads gotta go lmao
I feel like things have gotten better. Because when I was growing up, being gay was punished by society and family, it almost felt like having a decease. Even at my first job at McDonalds people bullied me because of my sexual orientation and I wasn’t even that flamboyant or feminine. So now as an adult I don’t feel insecure about my sexuality being known, people respect me at work , my family and straight friends has been a part of my life and celebrate my relationship. There is still things that can get better, but overall I feel that part it’s been well so far. I feel transgenders and drag queens are the ones that are under attack and need our understanding and protection. And of course we have to show people they’re just as anyone else, just as human, just as relatable in many other ways other than the perception of gender and sex which is a very small part of who they are.
The volume is on 100% with the music, and then on 15% with the actual conversation. Please fix this so you don't have to get the shock of your life when the music starts.
This is wild to me yes we face Discrimination outwardly but we also faced discrimination inwardly because there’s people in our community that feel privilege pretty privilege body privilege they’re also crapping on the undesirable LGBT so how can we stop hate when we project and push out hate
You are so right and that is why is it important that we all deconstruct the isms. Even if we live on the margins we all are combatting the isms.
@@aj2thamaxx742 right it’s sad but when u bring it up the gays who still seek heteronormative ways look at u crazy now ppl can date who they want but when u say u can’t date a fat person solely of their body then yeah u just as wrong

I mean look, we live in a Abrahamic based society and that foundation is currently being challenged and changed rapidly for equality sake. There will be friction from that change even if the fight is for basic socital rights and protection of those right equallly under the law. BUT I do think a lot of these changes pushed by main stream society for LGBT are not for societal equality its simply for societal change based of different ethics, replacing the Abrahamic core with something new and fighting for society to accept it and that is where I think alll of the real issues are coming from empeding the real issue the real battle for legal equality and protection. For example "pronouns" 😶 ppl getting killed, discriminated against for Sexuality and how they present themselves physically and ppl mad cuz some one referred to them as she??
