At 3AM this morning, my tablet decided to spontaneously play this song. Although I love Agnes Obel, this can be a little unsettling out of the blue in the middle of the night.... I hope it happens again.

I got myself a pair of expensive earbuds, and the fact that I can now even hear the sound of the piano keys hitting down in full detail is making me so happy
i totally see this song being in a movie, like a flashback scene : the main characters remembers their childhood, when they were playing in the fields with their friends. i see the kids running around near to a cottage and laughing. it feels very nostalgic and warm this song also reminds me of the movie Amélie (one of my favorite movies)

Idk why people are saying that it is heartbreaking, or that there is a pain in it. For me it is like when you find small flower and trying not to break it while going..
The middle section gets me every time. It's like the whole piece becomes separate with beautiful tones running 'side-by-side' with a more haunted score. As if it were bipolar. She is a true genius.
I was introduced to Agnes Obel several years ago, and was captivated by her hauntingly beautiful music. She transports me to a time, out of time. Somewhere ethereal and tranquil, yet very much Grimm's Faerie Tales. If you are a fan of Anne Rice, give The Mayfair Witches read while listening to Agnes Obel.
When a style, due to its intensity, spreads, it becomes a genre . I "smell" in her style traces of romanticism and Bartok, with a pinch of oriental/minimalist atmospheres. For sure, her style is becoming a genre...
I don't know specifically either. But perhaps between "Folk", "Indie", "Classic". Or a combination of these. Not sure if Mellow and Dark a genre either but people would surely put this into Dark and Mellow category should they make a playlist out of it...
I feel in a different universe while listening that even though it does not include any words in it. That's how Agnes hits guys, the magic of music and her style.
This song brings such a beautiful image into my mind. 0:09 I imagine a girl, in a snowy forest. 0:25 She spins around in circles in the center of a forest clearing, staring up at the trees as the leaves overhead form shapes, the snowflakes falling around her. Her dress is as white as snow, with ivory skin, green eyes, and such white-ish blonde hair that it almost looks ghostly. 0:55 The innocence of the unknown, not knowing what could be lurking in the shadows, in the darkest corners of the forest. Unaware of winter's harshness. 2:06 She is clueless, blissfully unaware of the potential danger. 2:32 A dangerous form approaches, and she senses the danger, remembering what her mother once told her about the woods. She never thought they were true. 3:08 that fear leaves as she sees a wolf, beautiful and graceful, it beckons her, calling her 3:16 She runs, captivated by the enchanting beauty of a furred creature, slipping past her, a wolf with fur as white as snow and eyes as green as fresh spring grass. They run together, sharing an unforgettable moment, her legs carrying her as far and fast as she can go. Past the trees, snowy streams with crystal waters, the fresh, cold air, piercing her lungs. The bark of each tree sinking her deeper into this dream, the true beauty of a forest untouched. 4:50 She realizes she must say her goodbyes, and her feet stop her at the edge of the forest. 5:10 For a final time, the wolf turns back to face the girl, eyes meeting as a silent farewell, and like a fine mist, fades into the distance, becoming one with the static of snow falling.
I love the kind of emotion it makes me feel. Something profund, nostalgic about my childhood. But also something much much older. Haunting, that only an old abandonned house might know. Kinda make me think about the Other Mother and the corridor in Coraline.
i don't know why this brought tears in my eyes... while listening, i imagine that a little girl, wearing a white frock planted a tree. it was an evening, the sun was on the horizon, the sun rays fell on her golden hairs making them glitter. she planted it and her parents were standing beside her. smiling, looking at their little angel. after keeping the plant in place she looked up and smiled at her parents. her father watered that plant. her mother standing beside and smiling. days past and she grew up. she went to school passed her college and university, her parents always caring her, let her flew like a butterfly, beautifully in her grace. she passed her higher degrees and went far from her parents. she didn't want to leave them, but she had too, because she loved her parents more than she could show. years passed, she became a shining star with every step of her life. one day, she knew, her parents passed away. far, far away where she can not reach. she became very disheartened, very very sad. it became hard to carry on for her, she went back to her little home, where she left her parents, the house, tables, chairs and everything was on place like it should be, nothing changed but her parents emptiness could never be replaced. with tears in her eyes, she looked outside the window, that field. like that very day, it was an ordinary evening, she walked in the field, near the tree that she planted once. she looked up. that little plant had become so tall and it wore beautiful green leaves all over. the golden rays of the sun making the leaves look beautiful than glittering sapphires. gentle breeze blew and the leaves sang along. two brown leaves fell on her head to her shoulder. as if, embracing her, like, her parents are holding her shoulders and saying they didn't go anywhere. they're always with her. as if they're telling her, "we are proud of you our angel, do not let your sadness get to you". she kneeled down in front of the tree and looked straight to the glistening sky. i must not break, because i know, my parents are always with me, in me, in my vein and in the deepest of my heart. they are here, with me, watching me, smiling at me. she thought to herself, looked at the sky smiling with a blurry vision. i made up this story, i love my parents a lot, they are seperated, no they don't love me a lot, but i love them more than i know.
This makes me imagine a little animation of a little girl and her becoming friends with a little shadow cat on her walk and playing in a field. The little cat hopping from shadow to shadow and playing with her. The little shadow cat grows up with her and protects her from the dangerous shadow monster but as time goes on, he becomes weaker and knows he can’t keep protecting her. He still tries to protect her but the shadow creature gets to her. She is slowly being drained of life and becomes a depressed shell walking through the hallways of her school. The little shadow cat does all he can but just as the creature lets the girl go, it breaks the shadow cat and he is absorbed into the natural shadows. She never saw him again but she sometimes think she’s being watched by a set of familiar eyes or out of the corner, sees the swish of a tail go behind a tree. She only wished she knew why she didn’t see him anymore

I thought I want to shut my eyes and let my mind go wild while listening to this one particularly from Agnes obel. I saw i was 10, in a magical garden, lying down a big, gigantic tree, the air is filled with fireflies, it's a sumer night with the common lovely summer night breezes. I was lonely again! Then after some nights, a nice boy came around and played with me, one day and the second and the third and many days to come. Then one day he showed me a hidden part of the garden, where there lies a big torii -for those who don't know torii, it's a Japanese gate usually red and marks the entrance to a temple or spiritual places in Japan, it will pop up into your mind immediately if you watch anime-. Anyways to enter the hidden garden, you should pass the torii, i did and so did he. As soon as we get inside, he inflated to an enormous monster that concealed the horrizon, he told me he was lonely in this garden forever and now that this loneliness came to an end with my presence, he shall forever lock me in here. Then i remembered all the nice time we had together with disappointed and disbelief. Then as days passed away, i got determined not to be his gratitude's prisoner, that i can both befriend him and still have my own freedom. That's when I planned for my escape and that's also when I looked back at our memories with happy nostalgia. I had a friend and I will continue to have one. I'm not to be sorry for that. There’s this eerie and haunting vibe I get from this song! It’s so peaceful too. And what you wrote, I can totally imagine it as well while I listen to this piece 🎵
I cant stop thinking about a love story between a werewolf and a princess for some reason. Its so easy to get inspired by such a masterpiece ^^ Its still rough and more of an concept... I still hope there is at least one soul that likes my written lines ♡ Smiling, she wandered through the woods, happy and full of expectation. The maiden of royal blood wandered over hill and dale to finally be with her lover. Down the narrow winding paths she had stolen herself from the castle. And she enjoyed the freedom that spread before her. The evergreen of the forest, the singing of the birds and the sunshine falling through the foliage. It was like she was in a fairy tale. Her fairy tale. And when she left the forest and looked at the golden fields in the light of the midday sun, her heart became warm. Her dear farmers boy. Oh how much she missed him. She hurriedly jumped over fences, ran quickly past some of the villagers and finally threw herself into her lover's arms. She had been waiting for this moment for so long. But her fiancé, to whom she was promised, learned of her secret. Gripped by anger and jealousy, he chased the girl deep, deep into the heart of the forest that surrounded the castle. But her lover wasn't far! He hurried and hurried to her as quickly as his legs could carry him. Hopefully it wasn't too late! But when he reached the heart of the forest, his own shattered and the forest itself seemed to die with her. Fear flooded him when he took her hand in his and she felt the coldness of her body. There was a small glimmer of hope. But could he really expect her to go trough this? Could he dare? He had to try! He wouldn't give her up. With tears in his eyes, he brushed her hair away and bent down to share his gift with her. Endless seconds passed before she opened her eyes. Amber-colored and warmer than the light of the sun ever could be, they glittered in the night. And they kissed. Now they were free. Free and together. Full of Joy and life, the two wolves hunted through the moonlit forest. The heart light and the sorrow forgotten. And when they danced in the light of the rising morning sun under the crown of a mighty oak, they swore to one another always to be loyal to one another and to live their lives together. Forever. Days, weeks and years passed through the country and if you believe the murmur of the village, the unequal couple still loves each other today, as sincere and deeply as on the first day.
This makes me imagine like I'm lost in a forest and the sun is so bright, the sun rays are beautiful and everywhere. I'm running looking for a way to escape this maze of trees and I almost lost my hope to find a way out, I wanted to give up but then a wolf find me a white one he just wanted to help me and give me the little hope I needed that there's always a way, he started running and I followed him while running as fast as i can to keep up with him and then he disappeared but i look up and i found myself out of the forest. I'm not lost anymore, I am free. But something inside me wanted to be in the wild, to be lost alone. I keept thinking on my way home about the wolf and how magical the forest looks and feels ✨
Have you ever been wandering by yourself through a park or a forest as a child while camping or during a family vacation, and suddenly you don't know where you are, it's getting dark, the wind feels cold and you slowly realize you are completely lost and no one could hear you scream from here? that's exactly what 2:06 - 3:08 feels like to me
when I hear this song I think of a little boy who's in the forest, and he sees little cute creatures. over the time they start to disappear as he continues thru the forest. then he starts seeing scarier looking creatures. he gets a little frightened and starts speed walking through the forest. he starts to see even more glowing eyes and shadows and gets even more frightened. he's starts running. then, he reaches the end of the forest. the stop of the shadows. he takes a break under a tree not too far from the forest. he begins to miss the creatures, so he went back to the front of the forest. he sat there, admiring the beauty of the entirety of the life and nature. he walked back into the forest without realizing he had. the showdows came back, hungry. they got close to his face qnd then stopped. he tamed the shadows. the end lolz idk if this is my best writing but it sure is a good story!
If I heard this in Coraline, I wouldn't be surprised. The song has that really unsettling and melancholy tune to it, just like in Coraline. But this is just my opinion. :)) (Also, if some of you don't know, Coraline is a dark fantasy horror film about a girl who finds a secret door in her new apartment that leads to "another world". If you haven't watched it yet, I recommend you do, it's a really great movie and shaped part of my childhood.)

This type of music makes me feel in peace ...in calm... thanks!
Wonderful!
thats the very representation of love something haunting sometimes scary but beautiful and worthwile to admire and care for.
That was absolutely wonderful. It's rare to find music like this these days. Thank you so much for sharing that with us!
3:15 The MAGIC sound… So sweeeeeet… Love it 👍👍👍
just awesome..
Magical..thank you.
Have you ever been wandering by yourself through a park or a forest as a child while camping or during a family vacation, and suddenly you don't know where you are, it's getting dark, the wind feels cold and you slowly realize you are completely lost and no one could hear you scream from here? that's exactly what 2:06 - 3:08 feels like to me
Χαρμολύπη ....της ζωής και του θανάτου ....κάθε μέρα γιορτή κ κηδεία ....νίκη και ήττα ....αιώνια ....και πάντα τώρα .
transmite uma paz de espírito 😍🎶🌻
So beautiful...
Such a great song
This is beautiful
This song for me is an explosion of emotions in my body and mind.
So beautiful. Thank you so much for everything you do, you are so talented.
I'm definitely going to have this playing while I read sometime soon
Hearing this song makes me think of a montage of the most iconic ballroom dancing scenes in movie history.
when I hear this song I think of a little boy who's in the forest, and he sees little cute creatures. over the time they start to disappear as he continues thru the forest. then he starts seeing scarier looking creatures. he gets a little frightened and starts speed walking through the forest. he starts to see even more glowing eyes and shadows and gets even more frightened. he's starts running. then, he reaches the end of the forest. the stop of the shadows. he takes a break under a tree not too far from the forest. he begins to miss the creatures, so he went back to the front of the forest. he sat there, admiring the beauty of the entirety of the life and nature. he walked back into the forest without realizing he had. the showdows came back, hungry. they got close to his face qnd then stopped. he tamed the shadows.
the end lolz idk if this is my best writing but it sure is a good story!

I Love your music Agnes 💜
I'm in love with this song
Isso não é uma música, é uma obra de arte 💕
3:16 is such an 'uncovering' moment, perhaps a temporary joy, while still being in the uncanny environment.
This is just... magic! 🤍💙🤍
thank you for this.
OMG some of your flows are insane.❤
This is lovely.
There's so much pain in it.
If I heard this in Coraline, I wouldn't be surprised. The song has that really unsettling and melancholy tune to it, just like in Coraline. But this is just my opinion. :))
(Also, if some of you don't know, Coraline is a dark fantasy horror film about a girl who finds a secret door in her new apartment that leads to "another world". If you haven't watched it yet, I recommend you do, it's a really great movie and shaped part of my childhood.)
I really like Agnes Obel. I wanna meet/see her live. Peace.
Wow that´s real music...
I am glad, that i heard it. it is really awesome that i found such beatiful music when pop & rap captured all in the world!
