With regards to the downshifting, I think he uses the paddles to change some settings. You can see numbers change on the wheel in time with the shifting -- what exactly those do is beyond me.

Looks more like brake balance or brake magic adjustment.
Maybe it has gears for increased acceleration and top speed. Does anyone know?
The driver looks frustrating with downshifting, seems like no engine braking thru corners. GTE and LMP3 is actually faster.
