For the longest time I also thought that FFXIV PvP was terrible, however the Feast (4v4s) ended up changing my mind completely to my surprise. It is a very unique and fun experience once you get the hang of it, in my opinion. Sadly, like the video mentions it suffers a lot from having a small active playerbase, hopefully the PvP overhaul in Endwalker will breathe some new life into it!
They need to make their CC and Mouse targeting more responsive for PVP to be better. I struggle to target anything while moving and in PVP you move a lot. Also CC usually has small delay which is not an option in PVP :)

@@GamingDualities Agreed on the current map not being easy on the eye, the layout is fine in my opinion. A lot of classes in PvP have nearly zero downtime on abilities so that's simply not true, you are almost permanently weaving OGCDs in between GCDs on Dragoon for example. I prefer having no chat bubbles, played dozens of MMOs and they easily clutter the screen. Nameplates do in fact have options? There are sound options for the duty pops as well, if that is what you mean. Combat is not at all outdated on the higher levels, but even if it is slower than some games that is fine because most of the focus is on actual unique battle mechanics anyways. Personally I do not mind the subscription model, yoshi-p has explained their reasoning for it in-depth (you can find it online) and I completely understand why they went along with that model. Registering for the game is a nightmare for the most part, agreed. They are losing out on a lot of players until they fix that mess. I am glad Blue Mage isn't a part of the current PvP gamemodes, however I'd love to see an exclusive blue mage gamemode with all of their customization in-tact, still. I miss the world PvP from some other MMOs but you just cannot have it all, every game has their strengths and weaknesses. I have absolutely no idea where the 500 ms animation lock comes from and the 2.5s global cd argument only applies to the start of the game. It is completely fine to have your own opinion but a lot of what you are saying is simply not true or just a difference in preference. You do not have to tab-target? (multiple options available) There is a lot of customization available in the game. You can disable or limit the battle effects for you, your party members and others if it starts to clutter the screen for example. Calling FFXIV ''not socially interactive'' could not be further from the truth, if anything the game is alive and well because of there being such a strong focus on its community. Either way the game does have a good amount of flaws I will admit, and it is also completely fine to have your opinion on the game and its features but spreading misinformation and judging it based on that isn't okay. Plenty of other games to enjoy if XIV isn't your cup of tea mate!
@@vecislt Agreed it is not ideal, I mostly work with target macros in 4v4s so that isn't as much of an issue for me there. In the other large-scale pvp gamemodes I can imagine that being a nightmare. I kind of got used to the small delay in general but on CC it is noticeably more annoying occasionally, yes. Missing a clutch adrenaline rush stun that would otherwise land stings :(
Honestly, pvp isn't that great on FFXIV but it's not bad either. I've definetely had fun playing it occationally. I feel like the biggest problem pvp has in FF is the long queue times, and that's mostly because there isn't enough players queueing in the first place unless there's an event going on. I do hope people pick up pvp in this game more so that SE has a bigger reason to actually put resources on that aspect of the game
The thing is, you don't tell people to do x with a promise of y improvement. If you make it good to begin with, people will play the content. One of the biggest barriers for wow and other mmo players for joining ff14 is lack of PvP
@@joshholmes1372 I do agree with you there. It should have been good to begin with, but unfortunately it isn't. The development of the game is fairly well known at this point, so when they did implement the pvp aspect to the game, not too much in terms of resources was able to be used to make it good. It could be because of the lack of experience in the team developing the game or any other factor but in hindsight looking back, they should have made it good in the first place. Problem lies in what the community want from the game and Square most likely evaluated that resources is better spent in pve content or other things in game over pvp. It's a bad spiral basically, without the community, there can't be a vibrant pvp scene, and without a vibrant pvp scene voicing what they want, resources will be spent else where so that current and potential new customers stay and pay for their subscription. In the end of the day, they are a buisness and they will care about money. I do have to disagree with you however on it being one of the biggest barriers of entry to the game. Personally, i think telling someone who have no interest in playing the story to play a game which literally locks everything behind story is the biggest reason someone from another mmo won't pick up the game. By the time they get to pvp content, they'd have to reach level 30, reach a certain part of the story just to pvp in battleground content. That's an incredibly hard sell for a purely pvp player imo.
Its not exactly a long que times though, its more of people don't que outside of PVP community time. Its always on peak time and usually active for 6-7 hours. At those times, pvp que are usually instant.
@@blushingralseiuwu2222 If that is the case then that's fantastic, unfortunately that's not what's happening atleast in the EU data center i'm in. I can only speak of my own experiences but if peak hours are that long and queues pops are instant then i'm definetely glad that is the case. In terms of peak hours, it tends to be fairly short here. Most people queue in for their daily roulette frontlines, get their exp and wolf marks and then ditch for another day. In terms of US data centers, i only know what i heard from friends who love pvp to bits and from what i heard, it's fairly dead most of the time unless there's an event going on.

As someone who's played enough FF pvp to have The Hand of Mercy title, I would say it's casual but it's very fun, it's like playing ARAM in League, you're constantly in the action and not stressed about loosing
Been trying the pvp. It is underrated. Problem is if you don’t realize there is a bg like victory condition. From there it is similar to wow pvp, just less CC chain oriented.
Well the Japanese aren’t really known for being into competitive games such as league, csgo, etc. Good thing they finally getting around to it and hopefully they fix the major issues.
It isn't that they're not competitve. You just don't know it. The APEX and fortnite mostly dominate japanese competitive games. And the population there isn't that big so they all flock to those 2 games usually. You can see many good apex players that reach global tournament (didn't win,but still) Also android games are big there, like clash royale and identity V
On their defense the stuns and sleeps last so little cause they abused it ... They used to stun sleep while another player with a aoe limitbreak nuke the whole party

Honestly, I think, given that Summit is a shooter player at heart, that he'd enjoy New World over every other MMO getting talked about recently. Let him try a bow/musket and see if he likes how it feels.
The Feast is actually fun, I love it when I die as a Monk from full health after spending my defensive options while the healer (mostly whm) is sleeping, only to have him spam "Hello." or "Nice job." after I die because he couldn't figure out how to target me and click any heal button even though I wasn't out of sight (:
In pvp animation locks should be limited, maybe not for wizards, mages. I remember playing games in the past. Melee dont or only have short animation lock which you can also animation cancle that adds that level of mechanical skill to pull off. Ranged archers or gunners have these burst damage and a lot of dodge skills to manuever in the battlefield and wizards/mages that cast/channel skills that can litteraly raids of ppl with huge damage and aoe They used to have these animation cancel stuff which made it so good.
I can tell you what I used pvp for. The roulette was great exp though it did piss off those trying to win because I just wanted the experience and didn't care about winning
When reborn first came out they had great pvp gear set I remember farming the points for the gear only to but it all and to find out it 100%pointless the pvp gear had stats on it pretty much like resilience (I can't remember the final fantasy name) and sockets for materia plus you could buy all kind of different materia that would reduce stuns or root and etc. But the materia and that PVP stat was inactive when PVP it didn't mean sense. So the pvp gear is pretty much just glamor or transmog however you want to say it
As a new player i can confirm that i want to try out the PVP but i decided to grind to lvl 50 since i thought that it would help me in combat until i realized that everyone in the pvp arena are lvl 30's, since it's balanced that way and also the potency of many abilities seem to be 2-5 times stronger than in pve
it might aswell not exist, very small number of people do it, and the game design makes it massively shit for the most part (honestly the pvp is terrible)

One of the next two Live Letters from the Producer will be discussing plans for PVP. One of the issues will be how they plan to increase the participation and make it less intimidating and inconvenient to the player base. There will, also, be information relative to harder single player and small dungeon content. Yoshi-P is terrible at keeping secrets :D
Legit the only bad thing about FFXIV PVP is we don't have a lot of players to do it. If more people just came over and PvPed it would be popping legit.
@@heftymagic4814 the reason is the pvp isn't the main focus and people don't like to pvp. That's the reason. Nothing more. WoW for instance pvp is like 1/3 of the games focus its even on the story. Ffxiv you wouldn't even know pvp was in the game.

Summit gives fair tries to alot of mmo's but he never sticks with them. He was the only big streamer who gave a try to gw2, despite so many people in chat constantly telling him to not even try the game. He played it for a few days and he moved on to shooters but it was fun to see as a gw2 player.
@@kiiturii I don't think so. I just don't like seeing players bombard streamers with that shit. I'm glad he had some fun with it. Though, I don't think it's been long enough to say 'long term'.
One of the larger problems is randoms only queuing in for their daily. After they get killed once by running into a 24 vs 24 sandwich, they just afk or ignore objectives. When the majority of your Frontlines have these players, of course they act like it already had it's kiss of death. I'm pretty confident that like 70% of all players have no idea what the Feast or Rival Wings even is.
It was never meant to be PVP...it is a story driven PVE RPGMMO....it's not supposed to be like WOW, yet here we are! Everyone compares it to WOW, even Yoshida says he doesn't want us comparing the two.
Lol, games can change. There is no reason why they can’t add more pvp elements into it. There’s nothing wrong with making a game that applies to more audience members while also still keeping it the same amazing game.
He should try playing BDO like lvl and then pvp after reaching 56 and farming skill points! after that move on to next game, because u know experiencing MMO out there
you cant really pvp in bdo after you reach level 56. pvp in bdo is gear based, which takes months unfortunately, super grindy game. i could only start average pvp now and i’ve got over 5k hours on it
BDO is not p2w, but you need lot grinding and time investment to do real pvp except tier 1 node war. But with now they have season server and narchilian gear, the progrress to have end pvp it,s can been achive by couple months.
@@melev9534 when you can pay for quality of life items that massively boost your progress to end game gear it's pay2win. when you can literally buy costumes that can disenchant into enchanting protection mats, it's pay2win. any game that's pay2win, you can achieve end game by being a no life at the game. that doesn't mean the game is not pay2win. don't be delusional because you're a no life who plays the game non stop and is just biased. the impact of having lotta weight, inventory space, multiple maids, mount gear and training items, profession costumes, by just opening your wallet is massive. sure they give some of it for free but it's not nearly as close to someone who has money and can just swipe their card.
@@generalvodka5233 just say you havent played for long. they truly give a lot of stuff for free, i’ve been playing years, not a single dollar invested and i have enough of everything. you can only p2w if you’re a fucking whale, which no average person (even if they have money) is. bdo is just a really grindy game. instead of investing money you have to invest time
And then he ends up playing SWTOR, another game focused on story lol. Nothing against it's PvP but the last time I played (a year or two ago) it was very....bland? It didn't feel too different from WoW, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but you can tell there's more focus on the PvE elements. Honestly for PvP it's hard to beat GW2 or BDO though the latter requires more of a commitment to stay competitive/top percent. And luck (money). That said there's some new PvP thing coming for the next expansion so it might be worth checking later.
Dude I lead an army of 50 Asmodians in Aion for an epic PvPvE fight. When I landed in FFXIV, it changed my whole perspective of how to have fun. Sure, the high you feel from PvP will always be the draw but you have to open your mind to something else and let in other things. You'd be surprised to learn there are so many more ways to feel immersive.
If FFXIV had good PvP there would be no competition out there. (Hell it's already at the top, it needs its flaws) Even tho I would really like to see them completely rework parts of the game to get PvP working, it's just such a integral thing to a game and it sucks that it simply is not good.
Good thing in XIV is that they can easily rework PvP without impacting any other side of the game since PvP's actions are separate from PvE ones. So at least, if they really want to rework it, we don't have to worry about it impacting any other content.
the problem with WoW is that Blizzard tries really (and I mean REALLY) hard with getting into esports scene (let's be real they fucked it up with original Dota and then SC and SC2 and then with overwatch). The problem is that MMOs are casual oriented games with hard social aspect built into it. If you want real competitive game you should play League of Legends/Dota 2/CS:GO/Valorant/etc (games that were built with competitiveness in mind). Blizzard just want to get into esports so hard that they're literally killing any fun in WoW (M+ => MDI, Mythic raiding is just one big competition for what? and lastly arena pvp). Look, if you enjoy pvp in MMOs that's one thing but if you're playing MMO purely for pvp/comptetivness then you're doing it wrong (and tbh you look like scared little animal because you're avoiding real pvp games). So my point is that Blizzard nowadays wishes it'd be a Riot Games (because League making 6 times more than WoW every year) and esports (well) sells... But Blizzard is really dumb in trying to push esports into MMORPG. If I want a competitive 3rd person pvp I'd play SMITE because that game was made to be competitive from the start while WoW just trying to implement things to be competitive game (even tho they shouldn't push SO hard it).
why FF hates pvp? this is just an opinion. So when the games starts having a high level of competition between players, thats the time people are getting toxic. Example for that are moba games and fps games. Because of the high level of competition between players trashtalks has become common, people getting mad at each other even between the team because you dont want anything that makes you lose.
they dont focus on PvP because PvP games all inevitably die and does not make the money. WOW fundamentally is not even a PvP game its a raiding game people stay in WoW for the mount collections and Raids not the PvP. The PvP andies are the first ones to quit then go on 4 month hiatuses.
@@iKSmurf Asmon started playing a week and a half ago... Chill. Most of the people who joined because of him probably aren't even 80 yet. Regardless, FFXIV isn't a PvP oriented game. At all. It has it, sure, but it is the least concerning aspect of the game for SquareEnix...
honestly he should just stay away from FFXIV if he is only looking for pvp content. Remember what happened with ESO and GW2 when he found out that the only way to get better is to get better gear through pve content and he didn't want to and got owned every time lol
He's not though. He said he's looking for an mmo for him and his GF to play together. I don't really think she likes to pvp... so his reasoning on picking a game is confusing.
final fantasy dont hate pvp the whole japanese industry hates esports and pc gaming, square enix seems to be the only open minded bandai namco tries whenever possible, but boruto shinobi striker is a disaster, sekiro dont even have pvp and dark souls netcode keeps getting worse with each game
the best mmo pvp mechanics ive ever played is tibia. Full open world pvp, one safe zone per town. Drop your loot upon death with a hance to drop equipment. The only problem is the graphics SUCK! 2d game. If they made a modern day mmo wit hthe same mechanics as tibia, it would be the best mmo of all time, but developers are too keen on just making pve games, boring! Make a full scale pvp mmo and to keep the weak and boring people happy, give them a pve server. There was also real risk vs reward. If you die while grinding, you not only lose your loot, but also the experience youve gained. Modern mmos have zero risk vs reward, if you die, you simply just respwan. This makes dying in game, meaningless.
PVP's really imbalanced from a Frontline perspective. It's just a giant zergfest. You can be wrecking one team, and then surprise, Team #3 comes up behind you while you're fighting, and they both pincer the crap out of your team. Also whomever has the most points tends to get jumped by both of the other teams because they need to lower your points to keep the match going and stand a chance of winning. But it can be a little fun if you don't constantly go all in on people. You have to do a lot of in and out poking maneuvers until someone is stupid enough to overextend, then you drop those people. Feast looks like it'd be the most fun out of the bunch.
Summit isnt really MMO type of guy... ESPECIALLY in Final Fantasy XIV where the combat system is super casual.. Summit would be better in a game where the combat and rotations are even more important than in FF... Sure they exist in there, but not at a level where Summit always shines with his strategy things... For example a game like Guild Wars 2 or some other MMORPG whats even more ARPG type of real time combat system than FF, would be MUCH better for him.. Not FFXIV at all..
@@Rithysak101 Every Ultimate cleared, every job 80 except Ninja ^^ It is true that FF has a very casual battle system. I'm sorry but FF14 pvp is terrible. Every other mmo pvp is better than FF14. It's not even a close call.

Honestly always hated how many stun mechanics wow has, you can be taken out of a fight for a solid 20-30 seconds
Bro I was gonna say hi jaron in the chat but didn’t think you would post it
When reborn first came out they had great pvp gear set I remember farming the points for the gear only to but it all and to find out it 100%pointless the pvp gear had stats on it pretty much like resilience (I can't remember the final fantasy name) and sockets for materia plus you could buy all kind of different materia that would reduce stuns or root and etc. But the materia and that PVP stat was inactive when PVP it didn't mean sense. So the pvp gear is pretty much just glamor or transmog however you want to say it
With all the new players storming FF I really hope that enough people atleast try out PvP, so there is a bigger player base.

Even tho I would really like to see them completely rework parts of the game to get PvP working, it's just such a integral thing to a game and it sucks that it simply is not good.

All you gotta do is get to lvl 30 to try it out.
why FF hates pvp? this is just an opinion. So when the games starts having a high level of competition between players, thats the time people are getting toxic. Example for that are moba games and fps games. Because of the high level of competition between players trashtalks has become common, people getting mad at each other even between the team because you dont want anything that makes you lose.

the best mmo pvp mechanics ive ever played is tibia.

Yeah he's gonna have to hard pass if he wants to just pvp. I'm glad Judd likes it though lol.
