#Abidjan is a city on the southern Atlantic coast of Côte d'Ivoire, in West Africa. It's the country’s major urban center, with skyscrapers rising above the Ébrié Lagoon. Modern landmarks include La Pyramide, a ziggurat-like building. St. Paul's Cathedral is a swooping structure tethered to a massive cross. Artwork, cultural relics and handicrafts are on display at Le Musée des Civilisations de Côte d'Ivoire.

Abidjan is very nice, plateau is African Manhattan, very nice
Much love from Kenya 🇰🇪 to Abidjan and all Ivorians,.. I like the way your city is developed and you don't make noises about it,
it's because you're not a French speaker. Just as there is a “rivalry” between Ghana and Nigeria. there is the same rivalry between Dakar and Abidjan on the French-speaking side haha
@@djeffx92 I never knew that,.. but I don't see Senegalese in the comment section with negative comments, or they are warming up 😂😂
@@djeffx92 Nigeria and Ghana isn't rivalry though.. Ghanaian started disrespecting Nigerians right from GHANAMUSTGO time , in west Africa Nigeria controls 60% of everything, from economy, population, cities infrastructures etc , some countries in west Africa are just like some states in Nigeria.. each state in Nigeria has at least two cities
@@titusngetich1222 as it's an English channel, there are few French speakers here, maybe that's why. But hey, the Dakar-Abidjan rivalry is happening in a more sympathetic atmosphere. In general the inhabitants of these two countries appreciate each other but from time to time we like to say "yes but our country is more beautiful than yours" and vice versa
@Nik Zahui yes in "real life": senegal/ivory coast, cameroon/ivory coast, ghana/nigeria, kenya/tanzania etc.. we like to make fun of it nicely but everyone generally loves each other Afterwards, it's just on social networks that some frustrated people try to stir up hatred
As a Nigerian I must admit that this is the best CBD in the whole of West Africa. Well planned, organization on point, good road networks, better and well maintained buildings, no hawkers.
Exactly but I doubt whether it will be the same in 20-30 years time. There will be population growth and if not managed well will pose a big problem
You're right but there are hawkers not just in plateau, when you visit places like Adjamé or Abobo, you'd see more than enough hawkers there
@@georgepresley5120 during the french back rebellion, that invaded the country from Burkina Faso, in 2000 till 2011, the country was cut in two, with the rebels occupying the North to the center of the country, and established their headquarters in Bouaké the second largest city of the country after Abidjan. And the loyal forces of the legitimate government then, occupying the center from Yamoussoukro the capital to all the south. The population from the rebel held areas fled to Abidjan and the population of that city had been increased since. Cities like Bouaké never recovered although the man backed by France and the rebels has been in power since 2011. The big cities of the country like Bouaké, Korhogo, Man, Daloa, San Pedro, Abengourou have been neglected since the french backed government has been put in power. So everything is now concentrated in Abidjan since the crisis and rebels war.
The city's CBD is nice and planned but then see those electric cables should have been underground instead of the way they are currently.
In Abuja's CBD, cables are underground and roads are wider.
@@joemartinsemezieatueyi498 they can’t be perfect but this is great planning and development for any city in Africa and way ahead in west Africa. I mean even Tokyo has the dangerous looking overhead electric cables and wires in the air…and Tokyo is pretty close to perfect as a city in global terms. I’m British but I can see how well Abidjan city is managed from this video, I’m impressed and thankful that this has been shared with us. I now would consider visiting in future but East Africa is my next trip
And don't forget they have d second largest migrants from Africa countries and still behave well to them,I have never heard of xenophobia there. Love❤ from Sierra Leone 🇸🇱🇸🇱

Right now they are building many infrastructure not only in Abidjan but in others cities as well , the country just need another 10 years of stability really.

From what i have seen/heard so far, i think life generally in Abidjan, the Ivorians economic capital is pretty cool for anyone seeking a better life to what we have in most Nigerian cities. The constant electricity, less traffic, good road network, working government, no omele issue, no agbero, good and affordable internet supply, mouth watering foods, gorgeous women and the ever ready French no bribe police and the tranquility it has to offer makes its more preferable destination to settle in. Abidjan should be called the paradise of West Africa.

All I can say is wow, this reminds me of a very nice version of Miami. Definitely a jewel of Africa, if I could do it again I would invest in Ivory Coast 🇨🇮 than Ghana 🇬🇭. Ghana 🇬🇭 is full of corruption, the government is to influenced by the west. This is why it’s even so hard to get anything done there. This is the best organized and cleanest African city I’ve seen in west Africa.
What did you invest in Ghana, that you can’t replicate in Côte d’Ivoire?
@David Cecconi You have to be more specific than this, why is the question? You have Lebanese, Indians, Chinese, Nigerians, Diasporas making fortunes not committing suicide. If there are scammers out there their names and companies should be exposed, it’s like saying don’t invest in America and then leaving the specifics of the why blank.
@@DD-bs7sy when I first came to Ghana 🇬🇭 it was a few years before the year of return, opening a business even then was a hassle. If they heard even a slight foreign accent your price go up by 2/3 dealing with anything smh. I’m not saying this behavior doesn’t exist in Ivory Coast but for Ghana 🇬🇭 to be so far behind and still developing. They need to be more business friendly. If you don’t have anyone on the ground doing leg work for you that’s not a local you will get little to nothing done. Ghana 🇬🇭 has at least 50 years before the laws get caught up to protect investors and it’s own citizens, these are major barriers for the country that’s slowing its growth. Ghana produce literally the most electricity ⚡️ in west Africa, Ghana 🇬🇭 is supposed to be the most developed in west Africa period but because of this but corruption and citizens not demanding more has slowed Ghana down. I would know because I’ve invested massive amounts of money in business in Ghana 🇬🇭.

I'm from Ivory Coast. Thanks for promoting our capital city which less known by English people. This beautiful city was built in the late 70s and early 80s after the first president Felis Houphouët Boigny met president Kennedy in the 60s.So there is almost nothing new since late 80s.Thanks to social media that helps us show the world that Africa was build even before mot of East Asian countries like Singapou,Corea,Japan. The late president Felix promised to build a city that looks like New York (Abidjan is surrounded by a lagoona Ebrie ). Unfortunately the development and major constructions stopped after his death in 1993 and resumed after 2012.This country would be far ahead in development if it didn't have almost a 20 years Crisis.
And the country has a very diverse economy 40% of the world cocao production with Ghana 20% totaling 60%,natural gas and oil gold and diamond and all the agricultural products you could imagine. The country reaches 90% of electricity coverage even very small villages have acces to power at very reasonable cost compares to many countries and potable water is available in most areas is in progress but a few cities have issue with their water facilities with the growing population .There still much to be done. Most of ivorian think Ghana and Nigeria are far ahead of them.Whats the reality there compares to Ivory Coast

Since the 60's, Ivory Coast was already the most developed colony of France in West Africa. . Ivory Coast had the largest french population outside of France until the 80's.
Many of them lived in different part of the city, mainly in Plateau, the downtown of Abidjan and in Zone 4. in the southern part of Abidjan.
Ivory Coast also had the largest Lebanese population outside of Lebanon. Most of them live also in Southern Abidjan in Zone 4, Marcory Residentiel, and Bietry. So you have different parts of Abidjan which has a middle class demographic. It is not all concentrated in one part of Abidjan. The rich and middle class Ivorians are also in Northern Abidjan, mostly in Cocody, and Riviera. When the country became independent in 1960, Houphouet Boigny, the first President, developed the country since the 60's. Most of the buildings you see in plateau were built since the 60's, 70's and 80's under Houphouet Boigny. Ivory Coast were only comparable to South Africa and Kenya. Even Nigeria although economically richer and militarily more powerful, and larger in size and population was not as developed as Ivory Coast. The downfall of Ivory Coast started in the 2000 after the death of Houphouet and a struggle for his succession. The crisis ended up in a french backed coup and later a rebellion that plunged the country into a civil war. The rebels were put in power by the french and they are still rulling the country till today in a very autocratic rule. Although the country has taken a step back as far democracy and human rights and human development are concerned, the country is finding its way back to normalcy and its development is slowly but progressively getting back in motion. So it is nice to see the country back to normalcy after twenty years of crisis and a civil war.

I think you will find Rhodesia had the 2nd largest white population in Africa until 1980 when Zimbabwe got it’s independence - Rhodesia was also the bread basket of sub Saharan Africa with the 2nd best economy and infrastructure in Africa after South Africa - Rhodesia and South Africa were considered developing countries rather than 3rd world. Mugabe got hold of newly independent Zimbabwe and the country prospered for 20 years, and in the year 2000 the wheels fell off the economy he single handedly ran the country into the ground - sacrificed the economy to hold onto power. A very sad state of affairs.
Im still trying to figure what could be beneficial about having the largest Lebanese population?

WoW! Thank you very much for this video. It remind me when l was working for a Canadian ngo. Our office was located in the plateau district, that funny looking building you just passed called les pyramids. Wow, plateau in those days was the place for business and entertainment. It was the location of all major banks and supermarkets. Mon Dieu, merci beaucoup madame pour ce beau souvenir du plateau et la ville d’Abidjan. Thank you very much and enjoy your stay in Ivory Coast Abidjan la belle!
