Had this sitting in my "Watch later" list for a while, and finally got around to watching this - it's fantastic! Not only does it give a way better look on everything than the actual games themselves lol, but it's super well made as always! You really know how to set the mood with the tracks you choose for these! And it's crazy to think that people in the Resident Evil world live their lives like usual when any lunatic can buy these things on the black market and unleash them in the park or public square at any minute

The new brute variant of the Ganados in RE4 Remake not only felt like a spiritual successor to the Original RE4’s armored hammer Ganados and J.J., but they also reminded me of the Big Man Majini featured here. The ones wearing a bull’s head particularly reminded me of the Iron Heads in RE2 Revelations, which in turn felt like a miniature version of the Executioner Majini, if he also took Pyramid Head’s headgear.
If you would like some RE news on my end, I finally bought my own copy of RE Village. This will allow me to articulate more of my own definitive opinion on the game, plus give me more firsthand experience, which can help with my next RE projects.

I have just beaten Moreau so I am not done with the base campaign, let alone checking out NG+, Mercenaries, Shadow of Rose, etc. But I can share up to twenty of my current thoughts below…
1.) Right now, I am having decent fun with the game and think I made the right choice, by waiting until the Gold Edition has come out and is available at a lowered price.
2.) I am experiencing a lot of the same strengths and weaknesses that I anticipated, based mostly on reviews by The Sphere Hunter (more positive) and Under the Mayo (more negative).
3.) I have been switching back and forth between the first-person and third-person camera perspective. It mostly felt quite seamless and I found both perspectives appealing for different gameplay segments. Another thing I noticed is that, either way, Ethan can only go at full speed when he facing the same direction as the camera. This made Ethan’s movements in third-person almost feel like a compromise between classic tank controls and the modern ability to strafe left/right plus move-and-shoot.
4.) I find it silly that Ethan will automatically turn away from the third-person camera, whenever his face is about to be visible. The lengths RE8 seemingly goes to hide Ethan face makes it harder for me to take him seriously and be invested in him, as his own character.
5.) I am enjoying all of the game’s regular enemies and mini-bosses. The Soldats are the only ones I have yet to meet myself, and I anticipate those will be fun.
6.) I confirmed my prediction that I would particularly like the Lycans and Vârcolacs. My only nitpick is that maybe the Vârcolacs should have been able to squeeze through a doorway, after a couple seconds. That way, you cannot easily cheese the first two regular ones, by camping near a building. When I get around to finishing Part 2 of my Top 20 RE Bosses video, I plan to reference those two creatures in my intro and say how I would modify my Top 20 RE Enemies list to accommodate them, if I were to remake it.
7.) For the areas I played through so far, I think the variety of different enemy types is average. It is at least a big improvement over RE7 in that regard. My one particular wish is that RE8’s enemies included something like a conventional infected dog. I also agree with others, that Moreau’s flooded reservoir could have had its own unique enemy, perhaps functioning like the smaller Neptunes in RE1. And if the developers really wanted to make Miranda’s Megamycete able to spawn enemies directly from the ground, I think it would have been fitting for RE7’s Molded enemies to return for those parts.
8.) Similar to Under The Mayo, I feel that RE8 holds players’ hands too much and could have involved a lot more mandatory non-linear exploration, rather than relegating most it for optional treasure hunts.
9.) Also like UTM, I agree that some of the puzzles were fine in concept, but very botched in execution. Though, I also found a lot of of other puzzles to be good or decent. So the puzzle variety still felt refreshing, after RE3 Remake badly neglected them.
10.) Because of the drawbacks stated in my previous two points, I agree too with UTM that Castle Dimitrescu’s potential as a successor to the Arklay Mansion, RPD, Baker House, etc. was seriously botched. Unlike him, however, I would not go so far as to say I literally found it the worst (explorable) map out of the entire (mainline) series. The visual aesthetic was nice. I liked some of the individual rooms, puzzles, and enemy encounters. And it at least gave me that one aspect of classic RE exploration, where I need to backtrack through some areas multiple times and use newly opened alternate routes to help negotiate additional enemies/pursuers that appear.
11.) I anticipate that Heisenberg’s factory will be my favorite area in terms of level design, for similar reasons why UTM actually enjoyed it. The factory appears most successfully recreate the feel of a classic RE map.
12.) The initial visit to and return from Beneviento’s house seems to be one of game’s both strongest and weakest segments, at the same time. It is strong, when it comes to horror in general and the puzzle element it provides. Yet it barely involves any of RE’s challenges with resource management, enemy encounters, and boss fights.
13.) I wish that players could at least choose, whether to face Beneviento or Moreau next, after Lady Dimitrescu’s castle.
14.) Moreau’s monster form is my favorite boss so far. His pursuit across the flooded area pleasantly felt like Mother Neptune’s first phase in RE1 Remake, if it were greatly expanded. I found his boss fight after draining the water to be engaging and fairly challenging. And his monster form fit the RE universe better.
15.) About Lady Dimitrescu and her daughters, I like their designs and mechanics as horror game bosses in general. But while their transformations, abilities, and fights would easily suite a game like “Parasite Eve”, “Bloodborne”, “The Evil Within”, “Silent Hill”, etc., I find them too fantastical for the RE universe. That is, at least without a different explanation for how they work. So my feelings are mixed.
16.) This is not a deal breaker for me. But I can see where UTM is coming from, when he said that the inventory space limits feel redundant and the use of crafting materials feel trivialized, due to various factors.
17.) At least for the Hardcore difficulty I played it on, I feel that the opening’s Lycan siege was not very well structured/balanced/communicated, especially compared to RE4’s opening village siege.
18.) Although this did not affect me, I find it baffling that the Duke does not immediately let you begin cooking. That is, even after you can hunt your first game and are prompted to give your meat to him. This misled some players into thinking they were supposed to sell all their early meat.
19.) I don’t like how the game arbitrarily bars you from revisiting certain places/rooms, even when there is no reason why Ethan could not return to them.
20.) So far, the game’s worst case of holding my hand (or rather "yanking" it) occurred in Moreau’s reservoir. As soon as I touched that curtain, where Chris’ team ambushes Ethan, I was pulled into a cutscene without warning and immediately dragged to the next section. I was unlucky enough to check that area first, before checking that tunnel next to it leading to a fish pond. How was I supposed to know which one to look at first?! The game auto-saves immediately, you are not allowed to visit that spot again, and you miss out on four pieces of fish meat. So that one mistake can lock you out of finishing that quest until NG+. And you are not allowed to manually save for a while leading up to that part either, so restarting from a manual save over this would result in a chunk of lost progress. Not knowing what I missed and not wanting to do that over again, I made the mistake of manually saving that file again.

I have just finished my Hardcore-difficulty first playthrough of RE8’s main campaign. If you would like to read a Part 2 of my immediate thoughts, here it is…
1.) Of course, I still have Shadows of Rose and the Gold Edition’s Mercenaries mode to check out. But I do not expect myself to have much to say about those. I will probably have the exact same thoughts about the former as UA-camrs like SSJdavey, plus feel that its premise fits in more with The Evil Within franchise than Resident Evil/Biohazard.
2.) I partially take back what I said about Lady Dimitrescu and daughters’ abilities/forms, which grew on me a bit. I think I would be perfectly fine with the vampire daughters, if them turning into bug swarms, so bullets would harmlessly fly through them, was just an illusion. Like they would use the bugs to obfuscate their victims, while simultaneously using Wesker-like agility to dodge bullets and seemingly appear/disappear amongst the swarms. Then, the cold air would both immobilize the bugs and nullify their agility, leaving them exposed and vulnerable.
3.) As for Lady Dimitrescu herself, I would probably be perfectly fine with her if: A.) Her blade claws came from her crafting a Garrador-like gauntlet she equips; B.) She had a Samcă-like transitional form between her human form and draconic form (with the latter being fought either immediately afterwards or much later on like Jack Baker’s final form); and C.) If she could send swarms of infected bats to attack you, rather than those same bugs which were just established to not stand the outdoor cold.
4.) The Lycan Stronghold and the optional Otto's Mill were two additional highlights for me. And that includes their boss fights with Uriaș and one of the Uriaș Drac.
5.) I had fun fighting the Soldats in Heisenberg’s factory, both the regular ones and the three mini-boss variants (Zwei, Jet, and Panzer). Though, I might have liked facing one or a couple more of the latter variants, rather than just two of each (barring the extra ones on Village of Shadows’ difficulty).
6.) I thought the Sturm was a pretty good boss fight, especially for how the destructible walls factor into your strategy (making it harder to avoid Sturm’s charges, yet also providing cover from the fire he blasts and limiting its spread). However, I accidentally gave myself less time to savor the fight, by using the Wolfsbane magnum a lot, which was more effective than I expected.
7.) As predicted from Under the Mayo’s review, the Factory is pretty much my favorite map in the game. If there were just one or two discernible segments, where I could complete mandatory objectives in my own order, as in classic RE level design, then it would have been perfect for me.
8.) In terms of personality and motivations, Heisenberg is probably my favorite of the four lords. Moreau and Dimitrescu might be tied for second place. However, I would have liked to have seen more interaction with Beneviento, so she could make more of an impression on par with the other three for me.
9.) However, I felt Heisenberg’s boss fight was the second weakest in the game, behind Donna Beneviento. His monster form and magnetic powers felt the most out-of-place for Resident Evil. And mechanically speaking, the fight itself felt on par with RE5’s Ndesu fight with the machine gun turrets.
10.) As mentioned before, I would prefer if Heisenberg transformed into a more Ustanak-like monster and did not employ Magneto powers. Instead, I would have been fine if his unique Mold simply allowed him to produce bioelectrical shocks, so he could harm Ethan with his touch and use bits of his own Mold to power the Soldats’ cybernetic parts.
11.) I thought Chris Redfield’s whole segment was okay and provided similar entertainment as the action-oriented side chapters in RE Revelations. Though, I see no reason why I was not allowed to open my map or review files during that part.
12.) Mother Miranda’s transformation and fight was okay. But like I originally said for Lady D. and her daughters, I just feel it belongs more in a different franchise. It especially felt like Parasite Eve, when the Mold seemingly allows Miranda to straight-up conjure magical energy balls. Her winged form also reminded me a bit of Silent Hill 1’s Incubus.
13.) In hindsight, I think the initial walk through Dimitrescu’s castle and backtracks through the titular village are the two places, that most needed to have background music which plays independent of enemy encounters. I barely even recall RE8’s save room theme being given opportunities to shine.
14.) I think RE8’s lore would have been more streamlined and coherent, if the Cadou worked differently. Like instead of being random nematodes infected with the Mold, the Cadou could be a clump of Mold specifically in the process of growing into a new Megamycete organism (so a person merged with that can retain their own independent will, like a Dominant Plaga in RE4 versus a Subordinate Plaga). In turn, the Cadou should have only been used to create specific characters like the four lords, Dimitrescu’s daughters, possibly Uriaș, etc. while the common Lycans could just be created by normal Mold infection.
15.) Some of the monster variety could have been better explained, if RE8’s lore implied that some of the four lords genetically engineered their own unique Mold strains. That would at least be akin to the Umbrella scientists like Marcus/Birkin/Ashford creating their own Progenitor Virus derivatives with more advanced and differing mutations.
16.) I think Miranda’s added connection to Spencer could have been more satisfying, if there was also a reveal that The Connections started out as a secret sub-section of Umbrella devoted to studying the Mold. That way, Spencer’s role as the greater-scope villain remains intact, even with Miranda now predating him. And otherwise, it would beg the question why Spencer never attempted to at least find some side-applications for the Mold, despite Umbrella clearly finding other non-viruses like the Nemesis Parasite to be worthwhile.
17.) Going further, Spencer could have also been the one who gave Miranda the idea to change tactics and start creating lab-grown children like Eveline, instead of implanting Cadou into already-existing humans with mixed results. Spencer’s explanation that viruses work better for creating one organism with a unified genetic code, plus Umbrella’s technological advancements, could have given Miranda the idea to create Eveline, as a human and Cadou hybridized at the genetic level.
18.) Even further, I think Rose could have worked better as a clone of Eveline, created by The Connections without accelerated aging, whom Ethan and Mia rescued and adopted under Chris Redfield’s supervision. This alternate backstory for Rose would make it more self-explanatory for why Miranda knew of Rose’s existence and viewed her as stolen property to take back. Also, having Ethan go to such lengths to save an adopted daughter would add some additional Silent Hill 1 vibes.
19.) Going back to RE7, I think that story could have felt more complete, if it was revealed that Mia was an undercover BSAA member who infiltrated The Connections. She tried to rescue Eveline from being trafficked, but Eveline became too dangerous and emotionally unstable by then.
20.) I finally think that the opening could have been streamlined. Rather than Miranda somehow disguising herself as Mia and Chris shooting her, without bothering to tell Ethan why, Miranda could have just sent corrupt BSAA members to raid the house. Mia gets shot, while Ethan and Rose get captured. But Mia’s residual mutations save her life and allow her to tell Chris what happened. Meanwhile, Miranda does not trust those bribed BSAA members and also wants to punish them for failing to properly dispose of Mia. So she meets the convoy with a group of Lycans and kills them, taking Rose with her, while Ethan gets away in the carnage. As for that old hag, she could have just been a brainwashed victim of Miranda, who implanted a copy of her own consciousness into her as a precursor to the planned ritual with Rose.

Speaking of which, I can easily picture an RE5 Remake having these mechanics and/or plot points, if you are curious to read my ideas below:
1.) The Licker ß would behave more like the Lickers in RE2 Remake, with greater toughness, agility, and aggression. As a possible reference to RE Damnation, they could even be shown with subordinate Plagas controlling them.
2.) As a compromise between Classic RE4/RE5 versus the RE4 Remake, laser sights can be an attachment for almost all guns, which do not have one by default. But while they do not take up additional inventory space, adding a laser sight to a particular gun would be an expensive upgrade.
3.) In between missions, when players are managing inventory and selling treasures, a similar stand-in for RE4’s Merchant character can be present to speak with the player(s). There could even be a pair of Merchant-like characters to complement Chris and Sheva being coop partners.
4.) One particular death scene could involve your character being force-fed a Plaga and turning into a Majini themselves.
5.) To make add more consistency between the Uroboros enemies in RE5 and RE Revelations 2, plus incorporate the scrapped zombies idea, most people incompatible with Uroboros will be turned into zombie-like enemies. The Uroboros boss creatures could result from a rarer, but still failed, mutation and turn other victims into Uroboros zombies.
6.) To keep the real-time inventory management simplified for coop play, the inventory could be structured like Original RE5’s, only with four more spaces tied to the D-Pad, which correspond to double-tapping an arrow.
7.) During singleplayer with an A.I. partner, there could be an option to have the game pause during inventory management. That way, exchanging items and commanding your partner can be more like how Rebecca and Billy are controlled in RE0.
8.) The Ndesu boss fight might be the one most deserving of a revamp. There should be an opportunity to fight one or two on foot, borrowing from Leon and Luis’ fight against the pair in RE4 Remake. Maybe there could be a brief segment, where you fight off one with some mounted machine guns, but it would be far less bullet-spongey.
9.) More backstory could be given to explain why that fictional African country is so war-torn. For example, there could be one Taliban-like faction that is trying to turn the country into a religious dictatorship with the assistance of Tricell’s B.O.W.s (mirroring how Los Illuminados wanted to subjugate people with Las Plagas). But there could also be another faction of Muslims acting as freedom fighters, whom the BSAA are allied with once B.O.W.s enter the picture. The Merchant-like character(s) could even tie into that lore, perhaps being a Black/Arabic husband and wife who are high-ranking in that resistance and have agreed to trade with the BSAA.
*10.) The main thing I am pondering, though, is how they would handle knives in RE5 remake. Given that RE5 is a real-time coop game, the inventory management will likely need to be simplified. Yet the fragility of knives and need for additional ones was an important counterbalance to RE4 Remake’s ability to perform knife parries and use the same knife to break out of multiple grabs.*
