I love how Conroy shifted the "colour" of his voice between Batman & Bruce Wayne. Brilliant. It was unsettling listening to his Wayne voice come out while he was dressed as the Bat.
@joaniekeyser4036 It's definitely possible. Kevin has also talked about how he related personally to the duality of the character as a gay man in the 1980s and 90s. He would have done at least some code-switching between people who knew that side of him and people he couldn't trust with his safety. I'm part of that community myself (albeit a queer woman), and I've noticed that almost everyone does some kind of vocal shift when they go from an LGBTQ-friendly environment to a neutral or hostile one. We change our pitch, our cadence, even the way we say certain vowels. A lot of us describe it as being like a secret identity. I've seen someone's entire voice and body language change because they took a call from their 'phobic family while they were out with their queer friends. I wouldn't be surprised if the idea for the switch came from multiple sources.
Honestly wish the voice code-switching persisted into the Tim Drake era and beyond, it was legit refreshing to hear him sound relatively cheerful even if it’s just a vocal mask.

Kevin Conroy was THE Batman for alot of people. The only actor to ever portray Batman in a way where he could be intimidating WITHOUT having to change the way he sounds.

Thank you for sharing, I love seeing these moments of Alfred helping Bruce. What I love about his character is that he is selfless and willing to help Bruce after what happened to his parents. There were moments I thought Batman wasn't appreciative of Alfred, but I'm joyous where he expresses his thanks to his father figure when he gets the chance.
1 of the things I love reading when I'm reading a Batman fanfic, is from a kid's point of view when they're joining the family and describing the family members to them and including Alfred as the senior most member. Like 1 was from the point of view of a kid that turned out to be bio kid of Bruce's who practically snapped him up as soon as he found out, he called Alfred his sassy grandfather.
It must have been intentional that Bruce Wayne and Alfred Pennyworth were named after two great medieval kings from Britannia: Robert the Bruce (of Scotland) and Alfred the Great (King of the Anglo-Saxons).
This is why Alfred is the absolute GOAT! The dude went from being DC's version of James Bond to becoming the best butler-dad from raising an entire Bat-family and an all around badass! Plus, despite not donning an intimidating suit, criminals would have more reason to be fearful of him than of Batman. Bruce may have a no-kill policy, but that doesn't mean Alfred might share that sentiment (though he would probably have changed his ways a smidge for Bruce's sake, unless he was fighting out of survival/self-defense)... 0_0
I always love these interactions between the two, the do what a lot of batman stories fail to do and actually make bruce wayne, BRUCE WAYNE, feel human and not some emotionless, almost sociopathic robot. There is a person behind both the front of a rich playboy and of the batman.
I loved the lighter tone Conroy could carry Batman with in TAS at moments without compromising the emotional weight behind the character. No other piece of Batman media has managed the balance so gracefully, and with our unfortunate loss of Mr. Conroy, we may never see Batman done this well ever again. RIP Kevin Conroy.

I always love these interactions between the two, the do what a lot of batman stories fail to do and actually make bruce wayne, BRUCE WAYNE, feel human and not some emotionless, almost sociopathic robot. There is a person behind both the front of a rich playboy and of the batman.

I loved the lighter tone Conroy could carry Batman with in TAS at moments without compromising the emotional weight behind the character. No other piece of Batman media has managed the balance so gracefully, and with our unfortunate loss of Mr. Conroy, we may never see Batman done this well ever again. RIP Kevin Conroy.
Heart of Ice ends with Batman beating Mr. Freeze with the help of Alfred's chicken soup.

This is why Alfred is such a good character. He can bring the sarcasm all day long, but when it comes down to it, he is there and he is ready to take care of Bruce and the rest of the Batfamily when they need it.
