Thank you all for the great response :D
5 cents about the handle color. Bog wood is rare material now, even at the old good days I assume it was rare. But at my grandparents village all wooden handles are "dubh", folks just burn the outer layer of the wood and than oil it well on the hot wood or even boil the handle in oil. This treatment makes the wood almost black and very durable. We are far from Scotland, but countryside is a countryside everywhere.
Man, it really is cool that my knife I have been carrying for a long time, which I favor, has the same profile as yours. Proud of my Insular Celtic heritage even more now.
For anyone wondering about the music in the background at the start, the tune is called sunset on the somme and it's being played on a set of smallpipes. Hope that helps :)
Duuuuude when these are back in stock I NEED ONE. They're so gorgeous, and they really seem solid enough to be more than just a pretty piece to look at. Good work man, keep being my favorite Scottish youtuber!
These are just the kind of thing I love. Beautiful, traditional, simple, and highly functional. God I'd love to have one. Superb work on these, you should be proud.
May I suggest that you farm the work out to your friend Steve at Field & Steel. Market it as part of the Fandabi Dozi Signature Collection. Satisfy the demand, everybody's happy. I like your videos.
Brother, I'm blown away by every video you do. Entertainment and Education are a hard thing to get right and you nail it every time. Even from the start of my subscription your quality has been awesome and has continued to grow as well as your knowledge and wisdom, which you share freely out of love for us and for the subject matter you are bringing back to life, for wanna be highlanders around the world :) :) :) I would say you are doing our Ancestors proud at a time when they have been lost from public knowlege. I thought after many- many hours of watching your videos (better than BBC Documentaries lol) and taking on that wisdom to share in my life to help pass the knowledge on and keep it alive for future generations. The least I could do was take the time to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the work you put into a 20-minute video, that has taken a lifetime to produce :) I shall do my best to teach it to my household. The knife video was a better shot advert than a full production television advert :) With all the knowledge and inspiration and craftsmanship that has gone into it from you and the full team involved. I have been looking for a knife like that for years and with such a story behind it......I think the term is "thank you take my money LOl" :) :) :) Even if I did not like your kife I would still enter the competition to support all the work you and your team do :). I love your channel. It’s very relaxing. I love making things and especially making knives. You’ve inspired me to make one of these, eventually, for my boss. He has some Scottish heritage. Sending love from Texas, USA
Excellent video mate. Brilliant idea having a percentage of the fundraiser going to charity. I got to say Fandabi. You picked some real thoughtful and passionate charities. I’d love to see the highlands back to their former glory with reforestation. Infact the whole british isles needs some tlc after the brutal deforestation it’s had for centuries. You sir are a modern hero of the highlands. If I had the millions that some have I’d be sure to donate to your cause. Hope to see the channel grow, keep up the good work. Nicolas from the toon
Over 40 years ago I bought some skian dubh knife blades from J. Nowell & Sons in Sheffield, and I put handles on them. More recently I bought Sgian Dubh knives from Cold Steel. I love that knife design, and I think your are the best I’ve seen. I would love to buy one.
It's really weird to me that I clicked on this because I wanted to know which style of Sgian Dubh to get but I have a small, good quality, blade that's similar in size and has the exact same blade profile as the one you prefer. My top edge is a bit straighter but I planned on honing it down anyway. Otherwise it is the same. I'm excited that I essentialy already have the item thats the subject of the video. I look forward to using it in bushcrafting scenarios here in the Appalachian Mountains of Eastern Kentucky. Lots of folks 'round here have Scottish, Irish, and English heritage. I think I'll call this blade the 'Appalachian Sgian Dubh'.
Oh my gosh, I just fell in love with a knife. "Fandabi Dubh, you had me at click sound." 😊That is excellent craftsmanship. It just made my bucket list...apart from going to the Highlands at least once in my life, must have a Fandabi Dubh!
Love your videos. Slightly sad that i found some of them so late, particularly this one as I am of Scottish decent and have had the same problem with a functional Sgian Dubh as you. So I was ecstatic to hear you were making a few to sell. I absolutely want one and look forward to hearing when you start making them again.
I've watched a couple of your videos now and they are informative and authentic. My one question is why hasn't BBC Scotland not picked these up they would be a great short program series. I also love the martial arts and survival skills elements of the videos, all well presented and explained without waffle. Great knives too.
Tom! I am really impressed. While I always carry a tiny knife, I do not consider myself a knife guy, but you really pushed a lot of positive buttons on this one. Nicely Done!! I would be honored to own such a tool, but I'm glad they went to folks who would use them a lot. I'll sign up and keep my eyes open for new things on your site. Being a wee bit Scottish myself and in love with the out of doors, I VERY much appreciate your videos. Godspeed.
Well darn....missed this one by a mile I did! As someone of partial Scottish and Irish decent I have always enjoyed most of your material. Keep up the good work and Merry Christmas!
Please keep making these! I realize that your not a full time knife maker, but these are wonderful. Have looked for a good Sgian dubh and was dissatisfied with one that I bought previously online , even though the reviews were good. Your craftsmanship is admirable and can't wait to obtain one of your Fandabi Dubh's.
These are beautiful, but they sold out before I could wake up here on the west coast at 4am and find your post. I seriously considered ordering one for my husband for his birthday. Hope you make more one of these days.

My brother makes these, but he sneaks in a rare earth magnet inside the sheath to add a little extra grab on the blade. It works really well, and is completely hidden once its been finished. This design is perfect for my preferred field carry....armpit/handle down ps...try camillia seed oil....I use it on my bokken....Japanese have used it on all wood for many centuries
This is a well thought out design, and very pleasant to look at! However, as I saw how you drew the knife from the sheath by pushing against the leather `mouth´ with your thumb, I had the thought that that piece of leather possibly will roll over with time, changing your point of purchase. Should that turn out to be an actual issue, I´d suggest stiffening that point by either wet forming it into that more stable shape preemptively and/ or stiffening it with a rivet/washer combo or laquer. Another suggestion wold be a mark or a bit of jimping on one side of the handle to be able to tell which side the edge is on without having to look at it, or having to feel for the actual egde.
About 25% Scottish. I found a very nice Sgian Dubh, from Kult of Athena. 1095 High carbon steel blade, Hard wood handle. Brass pommel and pins and bolster on the handle. A very nice leather sheath, but not for wearing in a sock. A good little knife.
