  • This one was quite involved. It's all so good, it was difficult to choose which parts to talk about.
Here is a link to the original dance:
    • Terry SalsAlianza & An...
    Guaguanco links:
    • Rumba
    • Vacunao (to vaccinate)

What a fantastic breakdown Joe! To identify each movement matched to specific instruments and flows in the song was fascinating. Of course everyone talks “musicality”, but you rarely see such a demonstration of so deeply feeling the rhythm of the music as you so aptly described here with Terry and Anna. Love how you’re always keeping our eyes open and exploring every aspect of dance. Thanks so much for what you do - your work is definitely unparalleled!

Wow, just wow. fantastic piece of musicality from terry as always, and fantastic following from Annabelle despite being unfamiliar with the workshop. These are the moments in dancing that I love to experience, when you have the music flows through both of you on the dance floor.

As always, you did a fantabulous job singling out stunning nuances and unraveling their intricacies. I am feeling grateful that you took the questions seriously, and I can’t wait to see future episodes in this line of work. Best of luck.

Great vid, as always, and such an interesting backstory. Thanks for sharing. Also, on a previous video I had mentioned simple CBLs, an example here would be at 1:23. The weight transfer, the tension, the look, the pause. So pretty.

Thank You Joe for this tremendous analyse for my opinion, the best musicality dancer that there is out there. I have watched and rewatched this video and together with the video with Amelie (that you have covered before), these videos are like an anthology for understanding what is to dance with the rhythm, to feel the. Using and than express it through body movement. There is a big quote that i have heard from him: listen to the music, make it part of you routine daily and you will see that your appetite for learning new things about music, dance, culture and everything will grow.
Oh and btw: Terry is fully committed and his connection with the music is sooo deep that at 4:23 he "lose" his wallet and the song is singing: "Se me perdió la cartera, ya no tengo mas dinero".. (I don't have more money if i lose my wallet).
Thats a sing from God I mean 😇

Great video! Small note, agreeing with @Hiawatha, that's looks more like a religion inspired move on 6:46 , rather than based on secular rumba guaguancó. I am not sure whether it comes from changó (yoruba) or ebioso (arará). And yes, some dancers use religion-inspired moves in their rumba, also as vacunao. Sorry for opening that can of worms :)

appreciate the break down but can't quite hear the music to judge corresponding chero. perhaps explain the movement(s) then replay movement with music audio increased.

I chose a cover version of the same song bit it's not the original audio. You know how YT can be with copyright. That's why I posted the link to the original. The thinking was if a person hadn't seen the dance they could review it then come back to mine and see the description.

I don't love terry but this was a good breakdown of the dance. It's not a knock on terry but he just isn't my fave to watch. I feel that ET Jr is his equal in musicality. That said by the time I would be even as close to as good as him as I could be,he'd be levitating.
