Im 70+ now. But Shirley Chisholm was a hero to me. I am white & raised in a racist system. But Still she made an impression that lasted my entire life.

This is one of the most truth-telling, seriously powerful speeches I've ever heard- given the year I was born. I have often fantasized what a different world we might have if she had won the nomination. McGovern lost in a landslide anyway and probably so would have Shirley but how wonderful to have her debate Nixon on national tv- how wonderful to see her face and her voice on national TV in 1972.

Shirley it's 2019, we have learned that you were shunned because you were a progressive that dared to challenge a corrupt system. Thank you for your inspiration.

This is a fantastic speech! Listened to every word. I'm glad Obama gave her the Presidential Medal of Freedom. When will our government make the changes she's talking about??

Such a relevant speech in 2020, I would love to hear her debate some of these inept politicians who don't even know their shoes laces different from their belts.

“God help them if they’re outdoors and the wind blows that speech away, they can’t even talk!” Shirley Chisholm on candidates who have not much more than money to back them

She was one of The Best politicians ever.
Bernie would love her and did I bet!

Marry Christmas, (cool name btw), Bernie would have appreciated her because she was not afraid to speak the truth of what was happening. I've seen Bernie admire any politician who has the interest of the American people at heart, Democrat or Republican, and anyone who can see and communicate the truth of the nonsense around them.

@Jocelyn Graham wth? Are you accusing him of racism? If Bernie is racist, then why did he march in the Civil rights marches of the 60s? If he's racist, then how is it that Killer Mike and Spike Lee and Dr. Cornell West are so close to him? How is it that Nina Turner is probably going to be Bernie's VP? Why do you dump on Bernie?

I grew up in segregated Chicago on the South Side. She inspired me so much as a Black and Indigenous little girl. Her words are so haunting. If the senate does the right thing they will confirm Deb Haaland as (finally) the first Indigenous person to be Secretary of the Interior. I wish more people understood how huge this is and what an amazing progressive politician she's been. There is so much work still to be done on the road ahead with Biden and Harris in the white house (if the orange manchild doesn't burrow deeper into his bunker and refuse to come out -- it's 12/20/2020 and the sh*t with him keeps getting crazier and more delusional every day). I'm in my 50s now, still progressive and passionate as hell...I'm so exhausted by the cycles of elitist, corporate-backed politicians over all of these rocky decades, but I'm not giving up yet. Listening to her speak is as energizing as ever. Really needed this today.

Shirley Chisholm, who I remember well when I was in grammar school/JR High. She had my attention then, hearing what she believes in which still can be used in today's Politics. Imagine what the world would be like if she had won!

Shirley Chisholm would be surprise to know that what she encountered back then still prevails today. Being the vanguard of democracy, America has not done well in order to make it meaningful! And at this present time struggles is on to sustain what we have left of it, as those who wants autocracy is blowing that trumpet! It will be interesting to see the outcome in November 2024!
