If I had $2000 to spend on something portable for music making, I'd 1000% get an iPad Pro, some nice headphones, and all the apps/plugins I'd need. Which I already do own all those.
It is essentially a nice to have, rather than a necessity. I'd argue that if you truly wish to pursue music, you will find a way to do it without having to spend a dime let alone $2000. The lack of options is a prerequisite for resourcefulness.
Awesome video bro!! My original OP-1 has not been touched since I got the field! You gave me an idea to make a fun comparison video of the 2, just added it to my never ending list of video ideas lol
Bought one when it came out, because it filled all my gripes from the first one. Ended up returning it although I loved it because i couldn’t justify all that money. Already had an M8 tracker for all my portable needs. But I came up on a new one at 1000$ and I just couldn’t pass it. Now i can enjoy it without feeling guilty. But the sound engine is way better and you can make quality shit on it now. Also the added bonuses you mentioned: usb c, ipad connectivity, bluetooth midi, etc make it worth.
i'm glad you're honest about this. you say you like it, even though its way too overpriced for what it can do. though I have to disagree with "build quality" from teenage engineering. I am hearing lots of noise on their field recorder tp-7 falling apart on everyone. that thing is 1500 dollars/euros
I love mine. I didn't get a deal on it. I love how everyone feels the need to let us all know what great deals they get on equipment. Anyhoo, nice video. Nothing wrong with spending your money on what you want and what fuels creativity.
I will say as a person who makes youtube videos about gear I disclose if I get a deal or if something is free so that people understand that is part of my bias when talking about the gear. It's harder to be "objective" if you are getting discounts or free stuff and I never want to mislead people
Try the all new OP-1 Ocean. It's only $3000 and its waterpoof. For 2 grand though today, people expect a Neuralink musical interface and a vast database of onboard MPE midi2 ready samples in their head ready to access the moment creativity seems paramount.
Are you for real, $2K? You can buy a goddamn MacBook Pro M1/M2 for these money and with that you’ll be able to anything creating: write, make music, videos, code, design, 3D modeling - absolutely anything. What does this thing do, makes some noises? Ridiculously insane pricing.
I wonder who would be willing to review Neuralink musical interfaces. Not sure I'd be one of the first, though if it worked well and with no infections from surgery or computer virus based brain takeovers, I might check it out. But I'd end up with the discounted version that involves having to think about commercials alot, rather than the monthly subscription plan version for probably about $49.95.
Looks are important if you are actually gigging. For someone who gets stuff done on the move with a Circuit Tracks when time permits and no one watching, the price difference is real. But I don't have your skill level either LOL! Thanks for the video.
I can afford it but it’s still not worth it. The production gear you can buy for $2k is what settles the argument as far as I’m concerned. The fashion clothing analogy you gave is perfect. You don’t have to take it to H&M, you can just compare Hugo Boss to Hermes. Boss is still expensive but it’s way cheaper than Hermes, and it’s easily just as good quality.
I’m not L.Dre but I can tell you that it’s not a gadget at all! It’s really creative and fun gear to use. If you are an iPad owner you can power it via usb c and record sound aswell as send to the any app on iPad 🥇
Great video! Now people can get back to work making music and not complaining about what gear someone can or cannot afford. Love your closing comments! Keeping it Real with LDre! Dig it!
I can use 2000 and buy like 2 refurb laptops with same specs as macbook pro, interface+controller, a guitar and mic, bags, and all the stuff that comes with it, and still have money leftover for DAW+bullshit VSTs and if i dont have money left I will absolutely TORRENT the software. I just do not understand any reason to overpay for TE products, and most cases Apple products. Apple crams 2500pixels into a 13 inch screen. Who is this for, Bee corneas? The keyboard key layout such as op1 are so glaringly designed by non-pianists. The point of the black keys is to extend far enough down for leverage. The fact they are dots is a joke. "but its pretty!" when I look at it, it looks like carpal tunnel. I think poor ergonomics is UGLY. Lifelong injuries are not pretty nor fun. No way you are using that thing as ergonomically as piano. Give it 20 minutes before your back is hunched, and fingers fatigue. Eyes squinting... You can buy a used Mercedes or Cadillac for 2k off Co-part or even an Old guy. It just, to me, screams "product for Non-musicians, by non-musicians." And the "Top artists" that use these things, often get them as a tongue in cheek silly practice tool. There really is no justification to price ~120 buttons/potentiometers, an LED, cheap speaker, some audio ports in plastic/metal case for that price. Can get a top of the line Monster PC with WAY more compute power & buttons, much bigger screen. I will go as far as to say you can get that $50 hoodie for much cheaper as well.
Fancy toy, everyone likes fancy toys, if you can give you that treat thats ok, but if you need to cover some basic stuff in your studio or in your life in general, smart people wont spend in fancy toys.
Answer: No. :) For $2000 You can buy a Mac Studio with 64 GB (!) ram, 1TB SSD, M1 CPU, which can do _infinitely_ more than this premium hipster toy for the _same_ price. The forced 50s style "tape" recording (meaning you can only edit / dub into few minutes audio files) is a cruel, bizarre trolling joke played on the hipsters by evil, hysterically laughing psychopathic product managers at TE while counting the money and running around screaming. Even your PHONE can do more and there are literally thousands of synths for IOS, from Moog, Korg, Ableton, and tons of other companies, even complete DAWs. And it's always in your pocket. You can add midi keyboards. a $30 IOS software can do BETTER than this. I'm not even upset about the price. I'd buy it without a blink, if it would make sense. But this is one of the dumbest device on the market. Great looking? Absolutely. Sexy, fantastic design. But the device itself is painful to use and incredible underwhelming for the money, especially if you compare with anything else in this price range (supercomputer-class desktop computers and/or smartphones in your pocket which can run 100x better software since 10y+ at least: NanoStudio, Ableton Note, Moog Animoog, etc.).
If I had $2000 to spend on something portable for music making, I'd 1000% get an iPad Pro, some nice headphones, and all the apps/plugins I'd need. Which I already do own all those.

I NEED A COOKUP VIDEO ASAP 🗣
Gotcha 🤞🏾
Awesome video bro!! My original OP-1 has not been touched since I got the field! You gave me an idea to make a fun comparison video of the 2, just added it to my never ending list of video ideas lol
Congrats for the purchase. I am also using nearly exclusively Ableton but the OP-1 field is very inspiring

😂😂
Uh ohhhhhhh
I’m about to lose my head uh huh uh huh
Yes man here. Sounds amazing. Full track machine. Thought I would keep the mki. Sold it. This plus anything make both better.
Try the all new OP-1 Ocean. It's only $3000 and its waterpoof.

You gave me a resonant laugh at the first seconds!! 🤣🤣

Yeah I’m the context of a brand new m1 MacBook Pro it truly is insane lol
OG OP-1 got a firmware update a while back that gave it audio over USB
iPad Pro, SP404 Mk2, Akai MPK Mini Pro and an Instrument One. Way more function and capability for the same or lesser price.
I wonder who would be willing to review Neuralink musical interfaces.

Great Review. I want one. I want it to sample with.

Let's be real here... having 363K subribers makes purchasing this possible.... salute!
So glad this got uploaded today on accident lol
L.Dre gear videos >
I got mines for 700 and I have both of them and I’m not going to lie. The second one is worth every penny.
The OP-1f is a hard flex
Right I’d get a mpc x but then idk lol I want one
This is a Cathy title. Gonna give you that
That you hahaha😊
teenage engineering is the apple of synths
Never clicked a video this fast before XD
Great video! I'm not buying one tho lol. are you gonna get the M2 macbook?
Hey L. Dre! What are your thoughts about SP404 mk2? Is it a gadget? Thanks.
I’m not L.Dre but I can tell you that it’s not a gadget at all! It’s really creative and fun gear to use. If you are an iPad owner you can power it via usb c and record sound aswell as send to the any app on iPad 🥇
I wanna see you get to a million
Do I need one? Nah. Do I want one? Hell yeah 🌚
that's just clean
I do have an undo hack feature for both op-1’s it’s actually better than Undo
Yo. Lion. That shit really is dat expensive man.
Great vid man! I'm close to picking one of these up... I like the idea of selling something to justify it!
Too expensive for me but it's definitely cool.
Dre, do I buy this thing or what? 2k?!?!?! I bought the original for $800. :)
I SUB JUST TO SEE MORE 404 mk2 vids..... U had one job bro lol

Great video! Now people can get back to work making music and not complaining about what gear someone can or cannot afford. Love your closing comments! Keeping it Real with LDre! Dig it!
Make me make Lori sample
500$ hardware, sold for 2000. Thank god they also make Pocket Operators for the poor. 😄
If I want emulation I'll do it in my daw. If you want tape buy a tape machine. $2000 is ridicules.
No lies detected. Loooove my OP-1F! Got mine open box from B&H for $1600
Naw
Dude USB powered devices suck.. this is such a let-down. Screw TE that they are not able to pull a proper power supply. 😤
It’s absolutely word the 2000. Value wise not so.

I'll wait a year or two, but the Field is a great instrument.

No😊!
Teenage engineering is like apple for music producer
Nope
No
Lol “build quality” I think I’ve read over 100 posts from people that say theirs is a pos, and that te support is awful.
Could be the most overpriced piece of junk on the market made for Instagram hipsters
Answer: No. :)

Whenever I see an OP-1, my level of respect automatically falls near zero.
😂 I feel you. I hate it so much, but I want to try it so bad.
No, bye nothing to thank.
Thank you for continuing to bring us awesome content 🫶 you have really helped me on my music journey in many ways and I thank you for that
