Another reason for no power tools is people would abuse the amount they take. The person that took the concrete saw to it took a lot and it wasn't for himself but for selling it. How long would we have the recourses if everyone took truck loads. Just like fishing and hunting there is a balance.
And now you know why people who carve, like to use soapstone! Its soft and easy to carve. It was fun to see you be able to saw out a huge chunk, with a hand saw! And it is buttery smooth! Which is just wild. That was awesome. I liked your cleaned up and polished piece. That was pretty cool, especially with the unpolished raw top! Awesome to watch. Great to see Sarah and Laika too!
About 30 years ago, my art class in high school took a field trip up there to get some soapstone to make projects. The first thing the teacher said is "Don't make any pipes or bongs"; a lot of the class made them anyway. My mom smoked cigs back then, so I made her an ashtray.
Great video! about the Quartz veins...Loved them I wish I had all that quartz littered all over my backyard honestly. I know it's not clear quartz but it is still beautiful to me, thank you for taking the time to talk a little bit about it 💯
My favorite part of this video was your excitement during those first few cuts of the stone! 😄 That’s very cool to see it in boulder-form out there. We will occasionally find soapstone objects from Native American sites here on the east coast. It’s fascinating to think about prehistoric cultures trading material, as we don’t have any naturally occurring deposits nearby. Looking forward to the actinolite video!
A beautiful place. I'm glad to see the three of you out there. It was neat to see both of you cut it with a saw, hand and mechanical. I like the slant on the display piece. Keep having fun and watch out for the mosquitos!
I think I have a piece of this soapstone! And yes it does feel buttery! Somebody brought some to Haunted Ridge... lol now I have to remember where I put it... The struggle for organization is real! I put finding before storage and now I'm struggling. Hey you warned me! LOL! Now I'm on the hunt for some stackable crates...
that looked super fun and the look on your face as you cut it proved it. You plan on trying your hand at maybe carving something ? might make a neat Christmas ornament . ( apparently Me and Ragnar think along the same lines just saw his comment LOL )
I carved a chunky squirrel out of soapstone way back in high school and still have it. My stone is dark green and it got very shiny with fine sandpaper. We didn't use any kind of breathing protection. I wonder if that would be a no-no today. 🤔
It is dusty stuff and I think if it was something that I worked on a regular basis I would have a mask for it but once its not something I'm too concerned about.
We really haven't seen much wildlife, I think its a combination of us talking a lot and the dog means wildlife pretty much just runs off. We see more wildlife close to home than on rockhounding trips. Moose, elk, deer, and turkeys make up most of what we see.

Loved this!
Thank you! It was a fun and very different kind of rock collecting.
Wow! That came out great! Very Awesome! Thank you for sharing!
Nice part is when the "sawdust" falls into your shoes ^^
How cool is that!!
Rockhounding with a handsaw 🪚😄 Thanks for taking the time to show us that beautiul view.
It was pretty fun to do! :)
Thanks for this video and information. I was able to go up there last weekend with a handsaw and cut my own slab. So much fun!!
Music to my ears, I'm glad you made it up there!

Far too many people over collect even without power tools.
Na theres sooo much, it would be impossible to mine all of it..I believe it would take more generations then we would care to think about.
I love the shape of your specimen...never knew soap stone could look so nice. 👍
It's all new to me as well.

I can see why people like carving the stuff its super soft and looks really nice finished up.
How fun was that. Nothing like manual labor to appreciate the end result!
Than k you for sharing!
I really loved this location.
Your soap stone would make great book ends maybe... fun stuff..and what a view! Awesome!
Bookends sound like a great winter project.

Ha!
We made pipes and sold them at the Rainbow festival.
Lol sky raisins. Grate video man.
Thank you!

I'm glad you liked it.
I like that, I'm going to see if there is some around hear. Like this was fun.
It's interesting material to work with for sure.
Beautiful soap stone I will need to get some at some point.
It's fun stuff to work with. I would recommend getting some.
👋 Hello Sarah & Jared good to see you …
Wow! It's so surreal watching you literally cut up rock with a wood saw! The end result actually looks amazing, too. Very cool trip.
Its really not something I have every really given much thought to until I did it. It's pretty enjoyable to work.

Closest I've ever come to soapstone was schist that the landowner tried to tell me was soapstone. Very cool stuff.
Those two things are pretty different from each other, but both I think are pretty under rated in the rock world.
Nice little trip into the "Oak a Noggin". Loved the polished look of the soapstone.
I like that you’re processing the soft rocks for finding, bring back to grounding and shining.
Nice looking soapstone! You can pretty much skip process on the wheel and take it rite to polish, its so soft.👍🤘

It's a pretty neat stuff to work with, unlike anything I have done before.
You should make a video on carving a small piece of this. Would be fun imo
Thanks for the videos!
Nice chunks. I would love to try and carve some of that. Again great video.
Thank you! It was fun to collect and cut up.

It really isn't something you would expect while handling a rock, I would say it almost feels kinda fake.
@@CurrentlyRockhounding Yes! the texture is very odd!

I'm not really sure about the carving, maybe at some point but I also don't really need another rock hobby for the time being!
Really interesting. Don't know where, but it seems like I've seen and touch soap stone somewhere. Looks pretty and sounds interesting for sure.
That stuff took a much better polish than I expected! Are you going to try your hand at carving it? A soapstone Ragnar would be neat!
I don't know if I'm ready for another hobby of carving but it would be fun to do something like that in the future.
hey you missed the actinolite there !!!!!
I didn't that will be a separate video.
@@CurrentlyRockhounding oh ok cool lol can miss that sweet green

Glad you made this video. We've been curious about soapstone. Pretty sure we ran into some in Utah. Crazy you can just saw it out like that.
I know Utah does have some soapstone but its not a place we visited when we were there.
What wild life have you guys seen on your adventures?
We really haven't seen much wildlife, I think its a combination of us talking a lot and the dog means wildlife pretty much just runs off.

i make pipes from this stuff
People take way too much. Wow, cutting rock with a handsaw.
They sure do sometimes take to much.
I'm rather happy with what we got on this day, it was a lot of fun.
If you look behind where you are sawing there is a bear on the rock not a real one.
