Great review! I am writing from Canada. I have noticed time and time again that the American technicians are by far better and more expert and making "peak and tune mods" to CB radios than the Canadian technicians. For whatever reason the Canadian tech's just don't match up as far as skills and knowledge goes as the American tech's. Bravo USA!
You can't "tune" a radio with a rf power meter ... it takes a tuned bench that has been NIST calibrated. This was golden screwdriver tuned and only produces ineffective results. Splattering onto adjacent channels requires power not going to the fundamental frequency you are on. Good luck ... Don't let it get too hot !
I'm in the same spot. An Extra class ham who wants to CB. I already have an Astron power supply. Antenna is 20 meter half-wave dipole - so no doubt a tuner will be needed. Shoot me an email to dad@pillera.net and let me know your lessons-learned and personal advice. 73!
Wait a Second Ham Radio Operator. Isn't the modification of a CB Transceiver and adjusting the output more power then stated in FCC Part 95 - Sub-Part D against FCC Rules and regulations ? (Lets Check) Rule 25 - {C} You must not operate a CB transmitter which has been modified by anyone in any way, including modification to operate on unauthorized frequencies or with illegal power.
Joshua Gosnell you don’t see anything wrong with it but he is violating federal law as are you. You don’t have to like or agree with the law but we should follow the laws of the land. Yes I am also a ham radio operator for just over 25 years and I enjoy CB is well but a legal CB talks just fine and when I wish to speak to someone further away I go to HF or 6 meters.
