A "proper" recorded version(in a different key - am not consistent in that but it's folk music so it doesn't matter) ua-cam.com/video/WqFiYWoRnlE/v-deo.html

@@carlgreene538 hi I did have a CD but sold out atm. Currently recording some more songs for another album soon which will be on cd. Possibly vinyl one day
Another lovely song beautifully sung. 8-) I heard another version which I'm not sure if most modern versions are based on: "Traditional song, collected and arranged by Ralph Vaughan Williams, who noted down the tune in 1903 from a singer at the village of Ingrave in Essex." ua-cam.com/video/JI7stpBYjr0/v-deo.html It left me feeling a little confused. As I hear it, he sings it as the words that he over heard HIS true love speaking about HER true love (which is not him, someone else?), and so the confusion is why you and some other versions do not. Is it a mistake, or "artistic licence" maybe? Either way it's a really beautiful tune. EDIT: Found RVW's lyrics, which demonstrate what I mean by the quotation marks. :) Through bushes and through briars I lately took my way; All for to hear the small birds sing and the lambs to skip and play. I overheard my own true love, her voice it was so clear; "Long time I have been waiting for the coming of my dear. Sometimes I am uneasy and troubled in my mind, Sometimes I think I'll go to my love and tell to him my mind. And if I should go to my love, my love he will say nay, If I show to him my boldness, he'll ne'er love me again."

Here from the Vaughn Williams choral arrangement. Really beautifully done in a folk style, I can see why Vaughn Williams wanted to arrange it!
